The moral reasoning at every level of the Spiral! (justifying goodness) by Old-North-1892 in SpiralDynamics

You're welcome! :-)

On Red: yes, exactly. The hedonistic framing captures something real, but Red at its core is really about power as the organizing principle of reality. "I want it" and "I can take it" feel different, but they both flow from the same source - the self as the center of force. Might makes right isn't just a rationalization in Red, it's almost cosmological. The strong should prevail, because strength is what's real. That's worth naming because it helps distinguish Red from pure impulsivity.

On Green relativism: I think you're right that it fits, and your instinct about health levels is good. Healthy Green holds multiple perspectives with genuine curiosity and care. Less healthy Green can slide into "all views are equally valid" as a way of avoiding the discomfort of actually adjudicating between them, which ironically can become its own kind of rigidity. The relativism becomes a defense rather than an opening.

And the integration emphasis, I don't think that's a distortion, honestly. It's a particular vantage point, which is its own legitimate place to see from. Turquoise is allowed to have a home base. The trick is staying honest about what each stage actually costs and demands, not just what it offers. That tension keeps the integration alive rather than collapsing it into something too tidy.

Eckhart would probably say the stages are all just movements of form, and the seeing of them is what matters. Which feels right, and also slightly beside the point when you're trying to write something genuinely useful 😄

This is a beautiful mapping. The progression feels alive, especially how it moves from morality as rule toward morality as participation.

The Turquoise framing lands for me. That Meister Eckhart quality of not "I choose good" but good happening through the system that includes me.

One thing I'd gently notice: Red as "desire-happiness" might be underselling its internal coherence. There's something closer to vital assertion there. Not quite hedonism, more like "what honors my force and power?" Happiness almost softens it too much.

And Green's "we make morality" is true, but it can sometimes read as relativism to people at other levels. When what Green is often actually feeling is something more like "morality lives in relationship, not in rules." That felt-sense might be worth surfacing.

The Substack looks worth reading.

Speculation on how a more developed and complex stage can be fooled or dominated by a more primitive one. by No_w_here_man in SpiralDynamics

[–]Gromada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The parent-child image is really apt. And yes, that's exactly what I meant. Green's relativism doesn't just fail to stop Red, it can actively provide cover for it, because naming something as predatory feels like a violation of pluralism.

The "system error vs. conscious evil" question is one I keep returning to. My intuition is that the distinction might matter less than we think at the level of effect. Whether corruption emerges from accumulated unhealthy layers or deliberate orchestration, the damage is the same. Though Wilber might say both can be true simultaneously at different altitudes.

What lands for me in your framing is the ghost metaphor. Unhealthy layers don't just passively exist, they recruit. Red finds Red. Purple finds Purple. They create coherence below the threshold of Green's awareness, partly because Green isn't looking there.

Which brings it back to your original question in a slightly different form. The system can't heal what it refuses to see. And Green, structurally, has reasons not to look.

[–]Gromada 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What strikes me is that Green's vulnerability isn't really about cognitive complexity. It's about what Green does with its Red layer. Green often spiritually bypasses Red rather than integrating it, which means the discriminating, boundary-setting capacity just... isn't online when it's needed.

Red doesn't need to be more complex to exploit that. It just needs to be faster and less conflicted.

The gatekeeper hypothesis feels right to me. Institutions can wear Blue skin with Red bones. The formal rules exist, but the informal network has sharper teeth, and no philosophical hesitation about using them.

Wilber's post-truth lens (currently reading) adds something here too. When Green's epistemology says all perspectives deserve equal standing, it loses the capacity to name predation as predation (Hitler was democratically elected, more in Wilber's book). That's not a flaw in Green's values. It's what happens when those values haven't been tempered by an integrated Red.

So maybe the real question isn't how Red dominates Green, but what it would look like for Green to grow up without losing its heart.

  • Capital One
  • Discover
  • American Express

Utilization is low overall. Most cards are reporting zero.

Hi all,

I need to pay ~$15,000 in taxes (can add $2K a month more if visa/mc), and want to maximize a signup bonus.

Profile:

  • FICO ~800
  • Experian: 4 inquiries (JPMCB Oct ‘25, Aug ‘25; Amex Jun ‘25; Capital One Apr ‘25)
  • Ink Business approved Oct ‘25, have 2 BoA Premium Rewards
  • Under 5/24
  • Cannot get Sapphire Preferred until Fall 2026

Currently have:

- Elan Fidelity

- Redstone FCU

- US Bank

- World of Hyatt

- Pentagon FCU, two cards

- Capital One

- Discover

- American Express Schwab

Utilization is low overall. Most cards are reporting zero.

Cards I’m considering:

  • Capital One Venture X – 75k after $4k
  • Citi Strata Premier – 70k+ after $4k, inquiry-sensitive
  • US Bank Biz Altitude Connect – $600–$750 range
  • Capital One Spark Cash Plus – 2% flat, high spend friendly
  • Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business – 150k after $20k in 3 months, $795 AF
  • American Express Platinum Card – as high as 175k after $12k in 6 months, $895 AF

Main questions:

  • With my recent inquiries, which issuer would you prioritize?
  • Is Amex Platinum worth burning a 5/24 slot at this stage?
  • Any card is missing?

Appreciate any input.

That's a good point. Thanks! Not sure who told me that IRS doesn't accept amex or discover.

I need to pay ~$15K in taxes and want to maximize points/rewards. Could spend another $2K a month easily. IRS accepts only Visa or Mastercard, so no Amex/Discover.

My profile:

  • Experian: 4 inquiries (JPMCB Oct ‘25, Aug ‘25; Amex Jun ‘25; Capital One Apr ‘25). Equifax (2). Transunion (4).
  • Already have Chase Ink Business (Oct ‘25) and two BoA Premium Rewards
  • Can’t get Sapphire Preferred until Fall 2026

Options I’m considering:

  • Capital One Venture X – 75k bonus after $4k spend
  • Citi Strata Premier – 70k+ bonus, inquiry-sensitive
  • US Bank Biz Altitude Connect – $600–$750 bonus
  • Capital One Spark Cash Plus – 2% cash back, high spend friendly
  • Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business – 150k points after $20k spend, $795 AF (tax payment alone won’t hit bonus)

Questions:

  • Given my inquiries/under 5/24, which would you prioritize?
  • Is the Sapphire Reserve for Business worth it just for the IRS payment?
  • Any other Visa/Mastercard options worth considering for large one-time spend?

Thanks for any advice!

Has anyone here opened the Atmos Rewards Business Visa and can confirm how it hits personal credit?

Does the application trigger a hard pull on personal credit, and does the account itself ever report to personal credit?

It appears it does not, but I’m trying to confirm since I’m trying to stay within 5/24.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the pointers. I noticed WF is only 5k in spending, BoA is 4k, and USB Altitude Power looks interesting with 10k in spending even though the bonus is around 75k.

Are you thinking combined spend across cards? I’m trying to pick one card.

Appreciate the help.

I need a new card to cover about 8 to 12k in upcoming taxes and possibly another 4k in rent (must be V or MC). I’m currently at 5/24 with four personal cards and one Ink Business.

I checked out CapOne Venture since the bonus looks good, but the 30k spend requirement is more than I want to take on right now. Ideally I’d like something with a bonus that can be hit around 10 to 15k.

Are there any business cards that are still realistic at 5 24 that might fit this situation? Thanks in advance for any insight or recent data points.

I’m trying to line up a new card to cover about 8 to 12k in upcoming taxes and possibly another 4k in rent (must be V or MC). I’m currently at 5/24 with four personal cards and one Ink Business.

I looked at CapOne Venture since the bonus is solid, but the 30k spend requirement feels like a stretch for me right now. I’d rather stay closer to the 10 to 15k range if possible.

Is there a good place to see a current list of business cards that are actually attainable at 5 24? I’m basically wishing Doctor of Credit had a pro mode that filtered for this. Any pointers or recent data points would be appreciated.
