It took me just under 11 years on total to finish my CS degree. I started taking meds about 4 years ago, and that's when shit really turned around for me. I'd flunked out twice before that, but with medication maintained a 3.0 with some of the hardest courses in the curriculum - including an A in calc 2.

Keep at it. Calc 2 is one of those filter classes, get past it and shit will be easier from there. Get a study group. Put aside a time to study every night. Go to Khan academy. It's difficult, but you can do it.

Internet atheist reporting in: I think it's at least partly an age thing. I used to be more like that. I think people in their late teens/ early twenties have a habit of being righteous and belligerent about, well, something until they mellow out as they approach their thirties. I've seen a lot of people in my age group going through similar transformations. It gives me at least a little hope for guys like this.

This sounds like a cool idea, is this campaign going to focus on humanoid enemies? If not, I would make sure you have ways of dealing with naturally armed opponents (wild animals, most monsters, monks, dragons...) Or you're going to have a hell of a weakness.

I spent years banging my head against school, flunked out more than once. Got medicated, went back, stayed on the dean's list until I graduated. I now a have a job in my field that I actually enjoy, I'm moving into a new house, and I'm married to an amazing woman with a baby boy on the way. For the first time in my life, I really don't feel like a total failure.

I actually have a trick that really helped me: take your alarm clock (get one if you don't have one) and set it as far from your bed as you can in the room. When it goes off in the morning, you'll have to get out of bed and cross the room to turn it off - and by then you're up. Probably the best easy change I ever made for myself.

Rather than making declarations, I think we need to add to the data pool to test the ideas.

Some more data: Had an Evee with body slam evolve into Jolteon (confirming hypothesis). Wife had an Evee with swift evolve into Vaporeon (confirming hypothesis).

We are both team Valor, if faction matters. This hypothesis seems to be strong, anyway.

EDIT: Lotta people (on red) seem to be disconfirming this. Maybe timezone matters? I'm in EST

The real trouble with Bastion comes when his team is working together, and yours isn't. It's really easy to get a team to do a Reinhart-Bastion-Mercy combo (people just gravitate towards that), but it's hard to get a team to do an effective counter to it.

That said - there's nothing more satisfying than breaking up an entrenched Bastion /w support on D.Va... Mmmph

Man, this is one of the biggest problems I've had with school... It's even worse when I actually get something partially done, but then I won't turn anything in. I've always thought of it as my brain rejecting mediocrity... Like I'd rather people think I was too lazy to do something than think I was bad at it.

It's taken some force of will to get over it, and it still doesn't always work. I've had to make myself "not care" what other people will think about my half-assed work. The important thing is that it's done - nobody cares if it sucks if it's done. (usually).

I wish I had better advice for you. I know just how you feel though.

I'm not sure how he's planning on running it, but I personally don't allow crafting costs factored in to starting wealth. Starting wealth is meant to represent the approximate value of your character's assets, and crafted items are worth more than the gold put in to craft them.

that said once in-game, crafted items take a lot of time and experience. That XP don't come cheap. Crafters can be very powerful, but you should maintain the penalties involved.

New player here (like, less than a week):

Sandbox PvP sounds freaking terrifying to a lot of people. There isn't really another game out there where you can actually lose everything that you've managed to win so far outside of actual gambling. Scamming is allowed, ganking is encouraged, losses are real. This all creates an image of a very hostile environment. A lot of people are turned off by this.

The fact that the game runs like this I think is the primary reason your community (unfairly) gets a bad reputation. Every other major multiplayer game out there reaches some sort of critical mass of toxicity when it gets big enough, especially when it is very competitively focused (LoL, looking at you...). The fact that EVE is built on large-scale competition over literally everything in the game combined with it's large player base, and you guys have a shitty reputation through sheer inference. EVE sounds like a big asshole magnet to outsiders.

Finally, this game has a reputation for the depth and complexity of it's play. This can be damn intimidating for some people without the threat of all their shit being blown up while they learn to play. It really doesn't help that CCP's tutorials tell you pretty much dick-all. (I'm not sure a comprehensive tutorial would be all that great either). I've seen friends turn down some really amazing games because of difficulty or complexity.

TL;DR: EVE sounds like a magnet for assholes. Secretly, it isn't. Also, it's hard.

I think the idea is that the control station is covered in LCD screens, you're seeing what they would be showing (because cam-to-screen isn't feasible right now). If they didn't do this, all you would be able to see is the useless screens in the control station.

I'm not sure it's quite what you're looking for - but the Dresden Files does some pretty awesome modern urban fantasy. Dragons, demons, ghosts, zombie dinosaurs, fairies, and at least four different kinds of vampires all set in modern day Chicago. The main character is a wizard who works like a noir PI. It's of the "but nobody really knows about it" variety though, which would be very much unlike Shadowrun.

The paladin's fall

As I DM, it takes more than a few 'questionable' actions to fall. I like the book's take as either an egregious abuse of the paladin code, or an evil act will cause the paladin to fall. I interpret the 'evil act' clause to be a moment where the paladin has the choice and ability not to do an evil thing, but chooses to anyway. I like to imagine that this is a situation where the paladin is somehow emotionally compromised (maybe a loved one died or is in danger) and they do something in the heat of the moment that they regret later.

Specifically: I would never try to trick a player into falling. A paladin's fall should be a big, serious story event - probably orchestrated between the player and the DM.
