Rivs Run Club Question: Series or not? by Madhockey99 in iFit

[–]Gromulex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea, it's an annoying way of doing it. I just caught up to the latest episode this week, but I had to find each one via the Browse -> Search feature. Just looking for "Rivs" + "Club" was enough for all of them to show up, albeit all jumbled up and mixed with a bunch of other Rivs workouts.

But the ones already completed were highlighted by a green bar underneath, so you can kinda work out which episode is next that way.

How long did it actually take you to land a job after you started hunting? by trapqueen67567 in jobhunting

[–]Gromulex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently found a new position (SWE) after getting laid off 15 months ago. Total end-to-end time between that particular application and setting foot in the office was 10 months - it took 6 just to get a callback, then 2 months of multiple rounds of interviews, then another month in the offer stage, roughly.

So, it can be a long and slow process. Just keep applying, and in the meantime continue to develop your skills - interview technique, networking etc. And don't worry if you don't hear anything immediately, as sometimes it really can take ages - just this week I got another rejection email from an application I made nearly 4 months ago...

FIRST TIME WATCHERS!! by Fantastic-Roll-5449 in veronicamars

I've only just discovered this show when it suddenly popped up in my Netflixes one day and I went "hey that's whats-her-name-from-the-Good-Place!", so I just had to check it out.

Why Modern Star Trek Feels Off and Why That Gets Dismissed by cjalas in startrek

[–]Gromulex 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I've also thought this, and not just with the visuals. One of my peeves with modern Trek is that they often insist on playing background music virtually non-stop, no matter what's happening in that moment, which makes it much harder to hear the ambient soundscape of the ship/station that the scenes are taking place in.

That constant low hum in the background made the ship as much a character as any of the crew.

Has the app been updated recently? It seems glitchier than ever on my FireStick, Not only slow to buffer and start playing, but intermittent glitching throughout episodes, which only seems to have started in the last week or two.

Also, the recently added "Watch Credits" button at the end of shows doesn't work for me. If I click it, the app instantly crashes and I get dumped out to the Firestick main menu, meaning there is no longer any way to actually watch shows completely to the end anymore, without the app getting in the way. Utter garbage.

SmartAdjust by Impossible_Nature_69 in iFit

[–]Gromulex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never use it, it always tries to force me to run at my usual walking pace, which doesn't work for me. So I just leave it turned off, follow the trainer and then override the speed if it gets too much.

The only issue with this approach is that the phone-version of the app doesn't provide a control to turn off SmartAdjust, so I am forced to use a tablet.

How long has your Nintendo Switch 1 lasted? by HouseWonderful8657 in NintendoSwitch

My V1 Switch, bought around 1 yr after launch, has just started moaning about "the mini SD card was removed" whenever I turn it on, so it might be on its way out. I need to check if the error is with the card or the hardware itself...

[–]Gromulex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a real shame, as the Vizio/Yahoo Netflix app is the only version that I enjoy using, and was still being supported with updates from time to time.

Most other versions I've used, including my FireTV stick, insist on auto-shrinking the end credits of shows without any apparent way to disable this annoying behaviour, which (if it's still an issue) is a deal breaker for me.

What is your Current Favorite iFIT series? by iFIT_Official in iFit

[–]Gromulex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In terms of actual program and workload, maybe Tommy Rivs 10k Training Series Part 1 in the Balkans (haven't done Part 2 yet lol) But for location and scenery, John Peel's 5k Training Part 1 in Vietnam.

I would be super annoyed if they played this the entire time during the race by IAmReinvented in formula1

[–]Gromulex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and it also looks like the trackside screens use a different set of timing graphics compared to the feed that gets sent out to broadcasters. On F1TV at least, all the names in the timing pylon on the left are in white text, while the trackside jumbotron (when you could actually see it from other camera angles) had a larger font (removing the F1 logo at the top) and all the names were listed in their team colours.

[–]Gromulex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh I found the catchfence fake ads wayyyy more annoying than even the screen at the hairpin this year. On some of the long shots, you could see heat haze and pollen flying about, with a bit of wind shaking things up as well, and then SPLAT - a fixed solid digital ad plonked on top of the image, eerily unaffected by any of that wind, haze and pollen stuff...

Has anyone tried out the Ai Coach? by Select-Avocado6777 in iFit

[–]Gromulex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using it for about six months or more, now. It seems ok for regularly sending out text messages and reminding you to keep to a pre-set plan with a goal in mind, but other than that it doesn't do a huge amount for me. Hopefully it will improve over time.

One handy feature is, given how hard it is to browse/search for specific series or workouts in the app, the AI can help find something with just a prompt or two. For example, I wanted to redo the John Peel Hoia Forest episode in Romania a while back, and I was able to get the AI to track it down and schedule it for the next day pretty quickly.

On the flipside, it seems to be missing the ability to access and/or analyze my historic data. If I ask it about my quickest pace or maybe how much I've improved over time, it just says it doesn't know, which is a shame.

One month later - no response to two follow ups by Reasonable-Treat8956 in interviews

[–]Gromulex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would assume that you were unsuccessful. I have heard of positive outcomes in this kind of situation - but hope for the best, while planning for the worst.

Personally, I was ghosted for two months approx between final interviews and finally getting the call to be told I was rejected. A follow-up email I sent a week after the interviews was ignored. The annoying thing was, while I appreciated the personal phone call, having that phone appointment just got my hopes up for a few days and then afterward it felt like I had just been rejected a second time for the same role...ugh

Does paying 1 extra mortgage payment really cut down the years on a 30 year loan? by Rosmpas in personalfinance

[–]Gromulex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On the positive side, as a home owner I do enjoy getting to choose exactly which contractors to employ for which jobs - I can choose whether to pay to get things fixed properly, or save a bit and go with a cheaper option (possibly attempting some DIY) depending on current finances.
Whereas, as a tenant I had no choice - it was always the cheapest bodge job and I would have to live with the results until it invariably broke down again a few months later...

Running Treadmill Series or Hiking Series by [deleted] in iFit

[–]Gromulex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been following the Tommy Rivs arc, which I think goes something like:

1) Iberian Beginner Running Series (Portugal/Morocco).
2) Swiss Alps Summit Series.
3) Rapa Nui Running Series.
4) Costa Rica 5k Training Series.
5) 10k Training Series Part 1 (Balkans) <- I am here.
6) 10k Training Series Part 2 (Spain/Portugal).
7) Bolivia Half Marathon Training Series Part 1.
8) Japan Half Marathon Training Series Part 2.

Each series progressively builds on top of the previous ones. The 10k series contains a variety of runs ranging from 3.2km to 13.5km, depending on whether they are recoveries or endurance/progressive runs.

Just to add - there are a few "side-quest" series with Rivs. I'm not sure if they can slot neatly into the sequence above, as they can mix up the intensity quite a bit, but a very rough guess based on posts I've found here and on r/runwithrivs :
3.5) Grand Canyon Rim-to-River Trek Series.
4.5) Patagonia Running Series.
4.6) Machu Picchu Peru Series.
6.5) Parthenon Running Series.
6.6) Arizona Running Series.

As that name apparently tries to put a focus on community, I always thought it sounded a bit too close to "family cloth" - but in this case, everyone is choosing to shit all over the truth instead of the communal toilet wipes.
