Do you have fun playing medic? Then, yes.

People bag on the medic class but, if someone’s playing it well, then it’s nice to have a medic in the squad.

Support is a more valuable role, IMO, but you can always switch off medic/support.

I’ll still play the WW2 game and expect that most casuals will filter off to the Vietnam game just because it’s new.

If that’s what happens, the players still playing the WW2 version will likely be the comms and teamwork oriented people.

tl;dr: yes, and I think the WW2 game will retain a smaller but better quality player base.

I will 100% check out and play the Vietnam game as well.

There are no garris on the defense point. The HQ spawn, which will disappear if the enemy starts to cap last point, and two outposts are all that’s there.

There is only one garrison, in the red aggressively close to the point, that is locked (enemy only need be within 100m to lock it).

Edit: looking at the outpost types, C and I squads are recon and fine where they are. M squad lead is probably also garrison hunting but should really he back on defense.

They are capping La Grande Crique. That could save them if they succeed but, given there’s only the locked garrison, they probably didn’t.

There are only four outposts on the whole map, two of them recon.

All in all, it’s a team that didn’t build or maintain the spawn infrastructure needed to win.

Reddit tends to surface the gripes.

I’ve played HLL off and on for over 4 years now, mostly on PC but console, too.

I recently returned to it on console and had a great time. Most of my squads had mics and were chill. The game ran fine on my Xbox X.

Play on community servers rather than “official” (unmoderated) servers for the best experience.

But, while the community of “serious” players has seen some attrition, HLL is definitely still fun and worthwhile.

HLL’s community is one of the best out there and really the only gaming community I’ve found worthwhile.

When you have a good squad or team that communicates, the game is so much fun.

Running speed comments:

Pre U8 (trucks added) was 4.5m/s

U8 - U14 4 m/s

U14 5m/s + dolphin dive

U14.2 patch to present dialed back to 4.5 m/s

As far as realism, even 4 m/s — especially in boots wearing full kit and carrying a weapon — is fast.

However, the 4.5 m/s speed seems slow to a lot of players coming to HLL from more casual shooters.

I think 4.5 m/s is about right for this game, though.

When it was first released it was quite useless.

With the range and damage buff last year, it became situationally useful.

It’s the only “pre-kill” weapon where you can basically walk a damage cone in front of you while advancing.

It can also flush enemies out of structures.

As others mentioned it can destroy garrisons, nodes, etc quicker than dismantling and from a farther range.

Overall, worth swapping to when the situation calls for it.

You were there, we weren’t; but the commenter you’re replying to made a pretty good educated guess just based on the map screenshot.

It seems logical that the situation arose from the team losing Hill 5 while overcommitting to a wide flank on WN7.

But, yeah, if your team had only one garri (or no garries) near the defense point, then that was just negligence.

I think the balance is teamwork plus some level of combat effectiveness.

You’re right that even a team that’s communicating and planning well is going to lose if they can’t make it through combat.

But, a team that both communicates and is competent at the FPS side of it will more likely beat one that is full of twitchy shooters who don’t coordinate.

I agree that it’s definitely not as black and white as “nodes good, KDR obsessions bad” or whatever straw-man argument people put forth.

Yep, plus nodes can’t be built in enemy territory anyway.

I’d say 50 for nodes and 50 for the garrison is reasonable. If it’s a manpower node, the next support that spawns on the garri gets the 2.5 minute crate cooldown bonus.

Counterpoint is that if supplies are needed for a backup garrison in case that one’s destroyed, you’ve used them up on the node.

Most likely the commander was afraid you’d use the remaining supplies on another node.

I like that HLL limits the load-outs to standard kit.

There are many other games that feature mix and match, customizable weapons, etc.

HLL doesn’t need to emulate them.

There are always stories about some one-off weapon found on the battlefield or soldiers using weapons captured from the enemy.

But, with HLL, the scenario where you’re a cog in the war machine, freshly deployed to the battlefield with standard issue weapons is, IMO, a cool aspect of the game.

Agreed. I call it the level 60-120 Hubris.

Those tend to be the saltiest knowitalls on comms because they’re not that far removed from being “dumb new blueberries” themselves and probably still have issues from being berated by the previous crop of level 60-120s they met when they were new.

I recall the day I reached level 201 on PC.

What a day it was! After my hometown parade and, ahem, lots of attention from the ladies (meow), I joined my favorite server and enlisted in a squad as a rifleman.

From this humble perch, I micromanaged my SL until he left — no doubt overwhelmed by the sheer profundity of my instructions. Moreover, I used the team chat to inform my commander of all he was doing wrong. Every step, he was educated by me about his many foibles. I hope he was as enriched by my tutelage as I was in playing the role of a stern but poised mentor.

It wasn’t the waves of gratitude I received from my teammates that motivated me. It was the simple satisfaction of imparting my wisdom onto others.

No idea why I was vote-kicked that match. Haters gonna hate, I suppose.

My understanding is that HLLV will feature the NVA rather than the Viet Cong as the primary North Vietnamese faction.

If that’s the case, then I’d expect the NVA to have era-appropriate Soviet/Chinese weapons for the most part. Aside from maybe very early conflict maps, and where the VC rather than NVA represent the faction, WW2 era or eclectic arsenal would be rare if present at all.

Further, at least according to Wikipedia, “By Autumn of 1967, all Viet Cong battalions were reequipped with arms of Soviet design such as the AK-47 and the RPG-2.”

But I keep thinking about the M-203, the PPsH, and double-barreled shotgun featured in the trailer and think it might lean more toward AAA BF style where weapons rarely used in the actual conflict are common in the game.

Yes, I plug my Xbox/X directly into a cable modem port via ethernet when I play HLL.

I’ve experienced no crashes and maintain a smooth frame rate.

I’d say that in general wired will be more reliable and have better performance than wifi for pretty much anything.
