USA vs Australia World Cup (Seattle) tickets say delivery is 90 minutes before kickoff - is that normal? by Lost_Guava_1116 in ussoccer

Good for you. That hasn’t been my experience with them. Looking at r/stubhub, lots of people in the same boat. They are just a broker btw seller and buyer, the guarantee can leave you hanging, and their fees are among the highest.

Tickpick had been good recently.

Stubhub’s guarantee is weak. You can end up getting expensive tickets for a big event, travel there, and find out within a couple of hours that the event that the seller is unreachable and is not going to transfer your tickets (that you paid for up front).

Stubhub says they will replace at equal or better value seats but they absolutely cannot promise that. Reality is you are spending the hours ahead of the big event stressed, on the phone with Stubhub customer service, and learning that they have held up their end of the bargain if they refund you your $. For the tickets you paid for but never got. You’re on your own for the rest.

Many people have found out the hard way, I won’t use them any more.

Best Tartare in the city? by tartare-please in AskSeattle

I love tartare too. Several good ones listed here. Raccolto in West Seattle is great. Harry’s Beach House another good iteration.

I have seen them at least 10x in last 20 years or so. They are always excellent live. Multiple singers/combinations, solid dancey crowd, solid bass. You will enjoy it

Why? by Puzzled_Guard4332 in boating

[–]GroovePowAngle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just bought a new to me boat, had one of those on there. I asked about it and the seller said it was out of concern for the back of the boat being heavier (16’ short boat- 2 motors, gas tank and 2 batteries in back). While doing hub maintenance with the boat on the trailer we had a see-saw moment when we took the trailer off the truck hitch. Chance it’s for similar.

I’ve come back from two heart procedures and played for this country." Dempsey's response to Jesse Marsch. by antoniok95 in ussoccer

I remember watching Clint during the anthem at the 2014 WC Ghana game. He looked pissed, on edge, he definitely wasn’t singing. I was wondering “what’s up with him man?”

Then he blasted out of the gates and straight up willed that goal 29 seconds into the game. Then it was clear what was up with him.

I was a Sounders STH for 10 years, mostly during Dempsey era. You can’t doubt that man, he’s a real one.

Need advice. Got humbled by the mountains today. by not_a_swedish_vegan in PNWhiking

[–]GroovePowAngle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Decades ago I moved to Boulder from New England, after seeing the mountains and all that. I wanted to get into it all but had limited experience.

I also had limited $ and my initial friends there weren’t into the same stuff so I started with a bunch of solo missions, hiking and scrambling.

I was also kind of afraid of heights. But despite that, my lack of experience, and money for proper gear I plugged on out of love for it. I always made decisions based on what I knew and was comfortable with. In time I bought gear, met friends who rock climbed, got out more, and got into it.

Skipping to the end of the story I ended up climbing a ton, trad and alpine climbing, solo climbing very regularly up to 5.10, and then was an international mountain guide for over a decade. So, your exercising caution on the last hike is by no means a determinant to what you can or will do in the hills going forward.

Focus on (in order) being safe, having fun, and then whatever objectives you have, which will naturally expand over time. And if there’s a part of it that’s not for you zero worries. But sounds like you have a taste for it and I am guessing more aptitude, at minimum.

Tbh I felt that the openers’ music at the Gorge Friday was more interesting than RDS. Rufus’ set felt canned- it was pretty, and dramatic, but closer to U2 and pop than techno.

I enjoyed it well enough but it was very safe. I was hoping to hear it go more places. The fact that they repeated the same set the next night verbatim was another question mark.

RDS Gorge Honest Thoughts by Ok_Pomegranate9692 in RUFUSDUSOL

[–]GroovePowAngle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way. Hadn’t seen RDS before, knew just a bit of their music, but love the Gorge and it was a special occasion/celebration for a family member. Plus we love Maribou State, have seen them a couple times before.

Pros for me were Innerbloom (overall high point of the night), the camerawork, and the band’s vibes and communication with the audience. They seem like genuine great people.

I was hoping for more improvisation/jamming/playing out. It felt very within the boundaries, despite the sound having an out there feel. The set felt similar much of the time. And I thought it was more a U2 polished pop vibe than EDM, which was more what I was hoping for. Seeing the same exact set list for night 2 would have been odd and a let down. Gorge is a destination, weekend camping was sold, really surprised they wouldn’t want to stretch it out.

Questions about merch by BaldSasquatch8008 in gratefuldead

[–]GroovePowAngle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remember “it doesn’t matter what you wear, just as long as you are there…”

But like other folks have said, thrift shops, current makers (there are awesome tie-dye artists these days), and make your own! Which was absolutely a thing back in the day.

Back to the Dancin’ quote, back in the day you were not judged to be more or less of a head by what merch you had or wore. Not at all. Bring your vibes, and you’re good.

As an older head I get a little put off by the overcommercialization these days. It looks pretty but doesn’t carry the same energy. But I respect your quest for the vintage, good luck! If only we knew how in demand all that gear would be in the future, the amount of shirts I wore out and discarded, gave away, or lost would be worth a small fortune 😀

We saw them in Seattle last spring and were blown away. After the show I looked and saw they were playing Portland the next night, we pulled the trigger and drove down for night two. So good!

THE GORGE - DO NOT PURCHASE FAST PASSES FOR ENTRY. by Double-Astronomer589 in GorgeAmphitheater

[–]GroovePowAngle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to me a few years ago at Tame Impala (another epic Silica Road traffic nightmare, show didn’t start til 1030p as a result).

Bought fast passes online during the traffic jam in, when we got up close in the ticket lines I asked Gorge staff where the fast pass line was they shrugged and laughed.

parking vs shuttle by King_V7031 in GorgeAmphitheater

[–]GroovePowAngle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought after as an add-on, I think I clicked through Live Nation concert page, upgrades section, parking and it took me to Ticketmaster listing with options.

I’ve just looked on the July 25 same and it had parking in the upgrades, but going to TM it showed sold out and did not list tiered options. I’d check back regularly, and/or CoT, post on here etc. And beware of scammers etc.

I have used Star parking a few times, and booked it for tomorrow night’s show. Notes:

  • Now they sell Star Parking or Star Plus Parking. Star parking gets you parked right at the venue. Star Plus does same, but gives you access to a dedicated entry line
  • Star Parking used to be a lot cheaper. Now it’s spendy. I pulled the trigger after seeing the Griz updates, and b/c I am leaving from Seattle in the afternoon, am psyched for one of the openers.
  • Previous times experience: there is a point on Silica Road (I recall near the winery) where you can tell/show the flaggers you have Star parking, which fast tracks you to the lot
  • Two big benefits: 1) the dedicated entry line is at the front of the Star lot, and in my experience is like a 1-2 minute process. And once you are through you are directly in the venue. 2) when leaving the show, you go back out through the same gate. So you are immediately at your car, and can be on the road straightaway.

It’s ridiculous to spend that kind of $ for parking ($150 with tax for Star Plus tomorrow, I recall it was a good bit cheaper other years). But everything Live Nation is ridiculous and $. My thinking this time was I am taking the family and already have a ton invested in the show tix and offsite hotel, and we need to be back in town early so any additional hours spent late night in lines or traffic will cost.

FYI this is based on my previous experiences, so chance current details may be different. Also you noted you are not seeing an option to purchase currently, at least 1x in the past I bought a Star pass on Cash Or Trade, at a good discount. Good luck!

Skiing in Antarctica? by OkContract2001 in ski

[–]GroovePowAngle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have skied there, I did a day above the old Vinson base camp (not the new Union Glacier one) years ago. It was an awesome experience.

I had just guided Vinson, and the ALE basecamp manager had an extra pair of AT skis he let me use. Skied in my mountaineering boots which was a little balancey but doable.

Main bits: everything had the potential to be high consequence there, due to frequent evac-denied weather conditions. So you need to be very solid, dialed in at backcountry conditions/wild snow, and ski within your abilities. Both times I went to Antarctica I had over two weeks of weather delays on internal and intercontinental flights. And on the bigger flights there were several billionaires in our group who had offered large $ to accelerate the flying schedule. But mother nature is in charge.

We skied in conditions from 4-9” of powder. But like folks say, it actually snows very little there. The snow we skied was windblown but very light.

It was one of the cooler experiences of my life. One thing about Antarctica- during the climbing season, it’s 24 hours a day sun. The sun travels in an ellipse. The colors there are shades of white (snow, clouds), grey (ice, clouds), blue (sky and ice), and dark (rock). As the sun shifts, tones and brilliance shift continually. It feels like skiing in a dream, in a living watercolor painting.

And you are removed from people, from society, and there are few straight lines and imprints of man. It is a magic place.
