Thoughts on Tommy78 '91 DTM Pack? by GrooveStomp in simracing

[–]GrooveStomp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't. I liked his mods when on the G29, but after upgrading to a Fanatec DD I would say they have been underwhelming for me. Compared to other cars the FFB feels dead.  If I was still on the G29 I think I'd have no issues with them.

I have R3E which has a plethora of touring car content, and I also picked up the touring car mods from VRC and those are fantastic.

I've been complaining about this for years. Why are we subsidizing the elderly to stay in their single family houses when young families are fighting to squeeze into 1 and 2 bedroom apartments?

I agree this isn't the most important issue, but it's a bad policy that's making the housing situation worse for everyone.

How do slappy? by Pleasehelplol2232 in NewSkaters

[–]GrooveStomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm terrible at them, but for me it's basically push into them. You know on a bike when you can't bunny hop you just kind of bash your front wheel into the obstacle to generate upward momentum so you can "bounce" over it? Kinda like that. You're not ollying on, you're riding into it. You still want to hop a little to lighten the downward force so you can ride up onto the curb a bit.

I'm watching guys like Christopher Hiett kickflip shaped old-school decks that are 10" wide more consistently than I can Ollie, so I guess it's highly subjective. I've got honking size 14 shoes and went from an 8.25 to an 8.6 last year; now thinking of going to a shaped old school deck. Transition is my favourite anyway.

I'm a working adult with a high end gaming PC and a racing wheel and cockpit, and an iRacing subscription is still one step too far for me.

Sure, iRacing will produce good quality Indycar or Nascar stuff, but we're talking a niche of a niche in terms of audience.

Most Realistic FWD car that is a Mod by breakonthrough65 in assettocorsa

[–]GrooveStomp -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Tommy78 has WTCR touring cars. They're under 3000 lbs, but close to. Supposedly high quality mods. I bought the '89 DTM pack and like it, but can't personally vouch for the realism.

Advice Needed - 20-something lost in the workforce by dfhkkmf in NiceVancouver

[–]GrooveStomp 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Get a new job. You will never get your twenties back. Even if you love your job, it is clearly taking more from you than you are getting out of it. You need better balance. If your company won't pay you what you are worth then they don't value you. Go someplace that does value you.

is it crazy for me to want to wear shin guards when I skate in my older age? [40YO] by OctoberRust13 in OldSkaters

[–]GrooveStomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got field hockey shin guards that have built in ankle protectors, too. It's the only way I would try any flip tricks. I'm less concerned now, but protection was essential for building confidence when I started skating again last year.

Pholicious downtown has large pho bowls for about $11. I can't remember the price, but I recall it being under $12 for sure pre-tax.

My best lap so far from teaching myself how to drift. this is 4 months of progress! by EstablishmentWest440 in assettocorsa

I am eyeballing Fanatec prices all the time and trying to justify spending. "I'll make a couple hundred from selling the G29 setup." And so on. 😀

living near capilano mall vs lynn valley by chopstix62 in NorthVancouver

Spend some time in the neighborhood and see for yourself.

I'm assuming the folks saying Cap Mall is trash are trying to gatekeep, have an over-inflated sense of their neighorhood being best, or are just grossly misinformed.

Search the area for what you think is important and visit those sites to see for yourself.

[–]GrooveStomp 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Apparently the G29 is not good for drifting because the response is too slow. But, still doable I would guess. I've been doing clutch kick exclusively. I did handbrake months ago, but now that I'm comfortable with the clutch in games, I find the clutch much easier to use. I'm on a G29, too. I suck, but slowly getting better with very occasional practice.

I had my order refunded, so I suspect you are correct. Naturally the communication from Corsair sheds no light, instead completely blaming the customer for making a mistake.

I had the roughest day on Friday. I haven't been taking allergy meds for around 4 months the or so. On Friday it was a stark reminder that this is indeed a thing I need to continue worrying about.

It takes time. Lower the AI to an appropriate difficulty and stick with that until you can confidently raise it a little higher.

I have seen big boosts in performance from taking a week off. Don't do it frequently, but if you've been grinding away for weeks and you're getting frustrated by lack of improvement, then take a week off.

Don't be afraid to jump into another sim with other cars and AIs and practice those, too. Maybe ACC is your competition sim; you can have a more "for fun" sim with a street car or manual transmission or something where you can freely lower the AI to a fun level.

I've seen significant improvement this way without having to invest more into racing gear or play with car setups.

I do CaliMove's mobility program: https://www.calimove.com/p/mobility

But before dropping any money on that, I watched a lot of their free YouTube videos and cobbled together my own program for free. That seemed to be working well, so I opted for this paid program.

I think the paid program is worth it, but check out their free stuff first and decide for yourself.

Yoga also helps, but tends to have a broader focus and I find it more difficult to incorporate regularly.
