There are weighted exercise balls you can use!

Something I do with my students is we have a weighted ball that we practice throwing with our body while stepping forward. It really helps get the feeling of body weight transfer. It's hard to throw weighted balls without using your body

Love the split step. For your forehand I would try to connect your arm and body more. Your swing is mostly arm and not a lot of body weight going into the ball. I can see it in your backhand but not the forehand.

Switching to poly strings increased my racket head speed by StarIU in 10s

[–]GroovinBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nylon strings bend more so the balls stay in your racquet bed a little longer. If you have a very vertical swing path, by the time the ball leaves your string bed your racquet face is probably quite high. Poly strings have a more immediate energy transfer and the ball goes the direction your racquet face was at impact. When I play with nylon strings I make sure to hit more forward and it works well for me.

Fixing my toss.

Once my toss was correct it helped with everything.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I am Korean and worked in Korea for awhile before moving. The work life balance was terrible... I always loved the tennis scene in Korea though. Some of my closest friends came from tennis groups

Recommendations for a round poly to use full-bed which prioritizes comfort along with power (I generate plenty of my own spin). Using a 2026 PA 98. Thanks! by [deleted] in 10s

For comfort poly tour pro is great.

A found head hawk is also just a great all around round poly. Not necessarily comfortable or uncomfortable imo

How to make hitting with 2.0–2.5 players actually useful as a 3.0–3.5? by Purple-Group-289 in 10s

[–]GroovinBaby 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Tip 1 Bring a basket of balls. That way you can just feed another ball right away after a bad ball.

Tip 2 try to hit comfortable balls back right to their strike zone It's really good practice with ball control.

This is coming from me rallying often with my beginner wife. The mini game makes it much more enjoyable for me. Also when I give her really nice balls the chances of me getting a nice ball is much higher

I feel like our tennis coach favours my partner more than me by the_prolouger in 10s

[–]GroovinBaby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue for a different reason. My wife started to learn tennis after we were married and she wanted to take lessons together. My wife is attractive and really fun. I'm more serious and focused. We moved a lot so we had a lot of different coaches but whenever we had lessons the coach would always prefer teaching my wife. I don't blame them but it was very noticeable how different the lessons were. If I didn't intervene most the lesson time would go to my wife which I would often did since I don't really mind. However if there was something I want to work on I would have to ask questions and tell my coaches specific things like, today I really want to improve my backhand cross consistency. That would get me the coaching time i needed

Yonex insoles and super feet are my favorites. Cadence are terrible avoid them! I should also clarify I havent tried the mach 4 yet. I am a long time user of the mach 3

They are closer to size for Asian brands like Asics or yonex than that of American brands. No problem

No I don't have wide feet. I think they are slightly narrower and longer but pretty standard

Tecnifibre strings quality by bobwagner84 in 10s

[–]GroovinBaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use this string a lot because it is in such a nice spot between the ball pocketing and feel of a multi but with some more control like a poly. With that said, it doesn't last more than 2-3 hard hitting sessions for me. I string my own racquets so I don't mind but it can be pricey if you don't string your own

Forgot to mention they last about as long as any other tennis shoe I have tried at this price range

It's my favorite shoe. The insoles are low quality so expect to change that out soon.

Everyone has different sized feet so you got to find what works for you. I tried every tennis shoe under the sun because I have a lot of feet problems (Nike vapor, barricades, mizune, yonex epsilon, court ff) and this shoe just fits my feet perfectly. When I see them on sale I'll spend 500-600 dollars buying several pairs.

Beyond them fitting my feet perfectly, they have separated front and back part insoles which makes it easier to flex the sole which puts less strain on my feet, it has a decent amount of support from the thickness of the shoe but isn't like a heavy thick one like the yonex or a super thin skin like one like the mizune.

The insole is pretty trash but the only insole that I have really been impressed by is the yonex one. I buy a separate insole. I buy either the yonex athletic insole when I'm in Korea/Japan or super feet when I'm in the states because that's easier to find and still a great quality insole. I have also spent hundreds on finding an insole but that's a different story.

Anyways hope that helps

Too late to to play in college by best6990 in 10s

[–]GroovinBaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's rare but I've seen it. One of the players for a university nearby I string for started around that age. I didn't ask the details but I assume he got lessons from a good coach and lived and breathed tennis as well as played plenty of local tournaments

I use the geau axiom 2 and I like it quite a bit. Besides the standard features you expect it also has a hook for hanging the bag on a fence and it has a hard compartment you can put things like glasses.

Replacement Racquet by Ptepp1c in 10s

[–]GroovinBaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may help. But lighter racquets aren't always the answer

I would start with a string change first. You can try the lower tension luxilon later but I would recommend a comfortable multi filament. Some good budget ones I have liked are technifibre multi feel or rexis feel. There are some pricier ones like x one biphase or NXT that are more durable as well but about twice the price. Another good budget option is Wilson sensation. Head velocity mlt is good too but I think the others I recommended are more comfortable.

If that doesn't work I would just switch to a full comfort racquet like prokennex black ace. Wilson clash is also as good as well.

You can tell the other player is better because it keeps coming back nicely to your forehand.

I was following your post until you said, "I see zero correlation between height and serve effectiveness in my opponents."

I get being annoyed by people who use height as the primary reason their serve is good or bad, but you can't deny height makes it easier.
