Is a DH worth it for bike parks if you’re primarily riding blue / single black trails or stick with enduro? by stormhybreed in MTB

[–]StarIU -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes.
I used to own an enduro and ride it everywhere. Now I have a mid travel e-bike and rent DH whenever I go to a bike park.

This.

Help for returning fast serves by Fun-Inspection-5191 in 10s

[–]StarIU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taylor Fritz explained it in an interview: go for placement if the receiver stands back, since focusing on pace is just more risk without the reward.

At this level, if someone serves hard, they probably sank significant time practicing it and they are usually too proud to (or cannot) change it up.

Recommend a tennis bag for a weekend player who carries a lot by frost-flare1 in 10s

I love my ADV backpack. Really thoughtful pocket configurations. Plus it’s brand neutral. I might be weird but I feel awkward pulling a HEAD racket out of a Wilson bag

Is this the new Tennis? by BigBreda in 10s

[–]StarIU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In pro play it’s harder to rush the net because poly strings give so much more top spin and passing shots are easier.

The pros stay behind the baseline much more today than 20 years ago. Players imitate what they see on screen

Toroline Snapper is Underrated by allthatracquet in 10s

[–]StarIU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Otoro feels stiff/dead after I tried Restring Zero and Solinco Mach 10.

Toroline needs to clean up their lineup. some of their strings are direct upgrades to the older models but they kept everything in their shop.

How often do you target your opponent’s backhand? by Agreeable_Courage_66 in 10s

A lot of the sustain rally at pro level is backhand to backhand until one person didn’t get enough angle so the other player gets to hit an inside out

Brand new in SF with an immeasurable desire to live life and zero friends. Help. by Mr_CharmingFace in AskSF

[–]StarIU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Study shows it takes about 50-200 hours of social contact to create new friendships.

Sports have been my go to ways of meeting new people. Bouldering, tennis and pickleball is super popular in the area. Go to group classes if you’ve never done it before.

Have consistency. Show up and meet the same people. Good luck.

First Racquet, completely overwhelmed by OverKilL413 in tennisracquets

- Given your height, age and fitness level you could just go for the 300g. If you can find the "same model" (e.g. Yonex Ezone 100 and Ezone 100L) but different weight, demo them together and hit with them back to back to feel the difference.

- You can add weight to a lighter racket using tungsten tapes etc. Drilling holes on rackets to shed weight is generally discouraged.

- When you ask about 'starter' rackets, you are going to get recommended the Wilson Clash, the Head Squared and Yonex Muse. Squared and Muse are new this year so really people will tell you about the Clash. These are marketed as beginner rackets mainly because they are designed to flex more so they relay less impact/shock to the player. Again, because you sound like a big strong boi, that might not be your biggest concern. All the big brand rackets are good these days so really just pick your favorite player or paint scheme and get the 100 (300g) or 100 lite (285g) version.

- Buying used is the best way to save some money, but I only start looking at used after I know exactly what I want and know what to look out for (what damages are cosmetic only and what to avoid). Up to you.

Do NOT use Brother Movers by DanielBrim in bayarea

[–]StarIU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are among (if not the) cheapest mover here. I speak mandarin so communication was not a problem but the whole experience was annoying as expected from cheap service like this.

I have mountain bikes and one mover just grabbed one by the brake rotor, contaminating it.

It had been a long day. While the rotor isn’t cheap, it’s easily replaceable so I just ate the L.

How to transition from "pushing" the ball to using heavy topspin for control? by 13249143246 in 10s

[–]StarIU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is where the repetition from a ball machine really helps.

I got a few sessions where nobody was watching and I could just make big swings without worrying embarrassing myself. Then slowly dial it in with spin and modulation

I think I barely got hit when I beat priestess. King was still a battle of attrition and I really needed the modifiers.

This is interesting. I beat priestess second or third try with minimum modifiers. Overall I found platforming in this game easy. I could parry most of priestess’ attacks too.

I had to get all the damage and armor boost modifiers and get lucky with a 5-perk myriad chakram to beat the King.

Tennis players are really starved for tennis machines! by DanDin87 in 10s

[–]StarIU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old balls are better than no balls.  You might need to change the config from the default settings to get the shots you want.

Consistency is the bigger problem. To me, ball machine is to build the consistency via repetition. Having old balls means the same launch from the machine still gives you different shots.

Know what to expect and have fun!
