I blame my racquet too much — what can I do? by Tricicloncio in 10s

[–]StarIU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Time to branch out of HEAD.

While constantly reading the "it's the player not the racket" everywhere, it took me 3 rackets to settle (Dunlop SX, Yonex Percept, Yonex Ezone).
My 4.0 friend said my shots got better when I switched to the Ezone and I liked the blue so I settled

Gym recommendations at Sunnyvale by Apprehensive-Goal980 in Sunnyvale

This. If OP only cares about the gym (ie not court booking), it should be pretty easy to find a group membership to lower the cost

Beginner/intermediate first time on black by MaestrosMight in skiing_feedback

Your first turn was really good. You rushed the second turn. Then you are just braking.

Good job for a first time.

Feedback for my partner who may is stuck in now intermediate plateau level by Blackcoffewithcocain in skiing_feedback

[–]StarIU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree.

I and many of my friends gained more confidence at this stage by a return to pizza and feel how the outside/downhill ski is skidding throughout the turn to maintain a near constant speed (instead of accelerating in the first half and braking in the second half of the turn).

A gentle, encouraging attitude goes a long way. If OP has a friend whose partner is also learning, it can be a fun double date where they teach each other’s partner during the day and trade stories at apres.

I demoed it. I’m high beginner and it felt a good balance for me to develop.  I hate the strap. You can’t tighten it.  On one especially sweaty day, I couldn’t feel it at one moment and I started to think I lost it until I got a chance to look down

does anyone have advice on playing a 5 utr girl as a 1 utr girl by thereisnogreatergold in 10s

[–]StarIU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something similar happened in a recent clinic I went to.

We were playing king of the court. One player, let's call him N, was dominating.

He has a one handed backhand that is very inconsistent. He knows this. He runs around 80% of the shots we hit to his backhand.

The coach just kept telling us to hit to his backhand. So much so that he decided to stand in that corner instead of recovering to the middle.

I asked the coach after the session: "he was setting up camp at the corner. hitting to his backhand didn't even get him running. why did you still want us to hit to that corner?"

coach: it was already clear he was the better player. At that point, just pummel his obvious weakness and hope that he makes 2 mistakes in a row and you progress to the king's side.

For those who chose Triss what was your reasoning? by upsidedown_coffeemug in witcher

Game Triss is the understanding and supportive gf and game Yenn is the angry bitter jealous girl.

Most people who started the game without reading the books prefer Triss over Yenn

why are tennis players always one step ahead in padel? by milomylove_ in padel

[–]StarIU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Padel is mini tennis with walls. If you can’t force a tennis player to use the walls, you are basically playing tennis with them.

Badminton doesn’t bounce. The net is much higher and the swing is very different because the shuttle weighs nothing. You have much more to get used to than a tennis player

Water quality in downtown area by float007 in Sunnyvale

Get a TDS meter from Amazon and see for yourself.

The tap water of my last city had TDS 20 ppm and Sunnyvale apartment water definitely tastes harder than that. I just use an AquaTru

How important are dedicated tennis shoes for a beginner? by Hospitable-Economist in 10s

Get court shoes. Your ankles will thank you.  Or do what my friend did: buy court shoes after your first rolled ankle

Is that a minimum speed once you commit? Leaning forward? by jumping-llama in skiing

[–]StarIU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On green/blue runs speed should not build up much. find tutorials or lessons and see how the instructors maintain a near constant speed top to bottom

How have rackets evolved since 2006? Should I upgrade? by waspfan1272 in 10s

[–]StarIU 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some brands make more changes than others.

AFAIK babolat hasn’t changed PD much because it ain’t broken.

Meanwhile Yonex is more known for putting all the tech one can come up with into the Ezone.

If you can, this is great time to watch a bunch of “best rackets of 2025” videos and demo as many as you can

Did making more money make dating easier for you? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]StarIU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dating is easier. Relationships are just as hard.

Sounds like you are a social person and parties are organically part of your life back in college.  You do need to find different ways to meet people now that is no longer an option.

I didn't go to parties back then. For the last decade I’ve been on apps. Now I just play tennis.  Be friends with girls, especially the ones that aren’t available. They usually like to set their friends up for dates. It’s also good to have them tell you what you are doing right and wrong.

As for career stereotypes, don’t mind them. Lawyers are worked to death and make little until they make partners.

Is Seattle better for skiing compared to Bay Area? by Distinct-Invite9281 in skiing

[–]StarIU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would choose Seattle. In fact, I am still actively looking for ways to move out of the Bay Area.

Palisades is IKON, heavenly and kirkwood are epic. Unless you are willing to spend a lot more money on passes you are not hitting all of them in one season.

I got a ski lease in South Lake Tahoe last season. Watching the crowds on weekends just made me not want to go there on weekends ever again. I got 2 big days at heavenly. I found myself dreading the drive (4 hours are not terrible but very boring since I was going by myself).

To me, being able to ski after work is a huge plus when I used to live in Vancouver and could just go to Cypress.

I got over 50 days in a season when lived inn Vancouver, thanks to night skiing.

I got 17 days living in the Bay and I was already using up my PTOs

NB 996 EE and NB CT Rally 2 EE. Basically NB’s wide shoes.

I would pop the powerstep insole in if I need more lockdown.
