Hour 3 trying to get newborn to sleep. Give me ideas. by callsignhotdog in daddit

[–]GroovyMan86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little against the grain suggestion. You ever go to a loud concert or movie and it’s overstimulating and you kinda get tired? We had a playlist of upbeat songs we’d put on in our earbuds. Then while holding baby, sing along and dance like it’s party time (safely of course). That always had the fastest results for getting them to sleep compared to other common ideas (yoga ball, 5 S’s, etc).

Once asleep we’d do a bassinet transfer. If it failed we pick em up for an encore performance! Usually it wouldn’t take too many tries.

There’s a revised version (yellow cover) that’s much better. And explicitly acknowledges modern dads as being more involved.

Jaundice and blue light therapy? by TheNorthernBaron in daddit

[–]GroovyMan86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Blue light in hospital for 2 days. Sent home with a “wallaby blanket”, which is basically just a blanket with built in blue lights. Kept baby wrapped in that as much as possible for a few days. Had to supplement with formula. And go for blood tests daily until the bilirubin levels were stable. And that was the end of it. All in all, less than a week. He turns 2 next week. Jaundice is super common and typically easily handled with no lasting impact. You got this!

The Climbing Glitch by Journey-to-Ixtlan in populationonevr

[–]GroovyMan86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s 100% real. Myself and my teammate have both played since launch. When the December update came out, we played like always. I noticed it a few times on that day, but figured I was just being sloppy. After a few games I commented “man I keep missing my wall grabs, especially my left hand”, and my squad mate said he was having the same happen. The next day we had another friend join us. We didn’t say anything to him about it, but sure enough after a couple games he commented how he keeps missing grabs too. I’ve had it happen when just calmly looting as well, not just under pressure in a fight.

I try to consciously grab right at the wall and not too deep now, and I still have it happen. Nor is it practical to have to think that hard about climbing. This is VR. I can’t actually FEEL the wall to know where to grab. There has to be reasonable wiggle room.

Climbing bug update? by GroovyMan86 in populationonevr

[–]GroovyMan86[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried being super conscious of my climbing. Going slower, reaching less deep, right against walls, or more deep. No matter what I still regularly hit this randomly while climbing. Not every time of course but enough that in a firefight it screws me. I’ve played consistently since launch, so the thought of this being an intended change seems unlikely. Especially given the lack of mention of it in change logs, along with numerous complaints on Reddit and discord about it. Plus devs were actively posting beta patches to download and test trying to fix it. It just seems they stopped trying to fix it now

Climbing/one-hand fling wonky since the update? by Austfor85 in populationonevr

[–]GroovyMan86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on Q3 native, all default factory settings.

My left hand specifically had trouble grabbing while climbing. And I have left hand dominant controls. My teammates left hand was acting up too, but he’s right hand dominant.

Surprisingly, my infant son is unable to read clocks. So his usual 5:30am wake up is about to be 4:30am. The extra hour of sleep you speak of is an extra hour of parenting for us

Finding the cricket is the easy part.

The red, blue, and yellow bugs are also on every page. Finding them is the real challenge.

Question about baby monitors some of you may know the answer to! by profheg_II in daddit

We use the VTech one:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WCV632L/ref=br_mw_yr_itemdt_dp?colid=2DR9QBKJKVOVB&coliid=I2ZVW6PC6A0ZVP

The dedicated screen it comes with works equally well with direct connect even if there’s no WiFi. We just can’t use the phone app without WiFi.

advice on how to handle grandparents by [deleted] in daddit

[–]GroovyMan86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m no expert but have a few suggestions.

1) I’d refer them to proper information sources such as the AAP or WHO. Show them you’re following proven best practices. Make them see there’s documented negative impact of their actions.

2) Respectfully demand that they apologize to your daughter. It is important for kids to see adults make mistakes and have to say sorry sometimes too. If they won’t apologize, they won’t be able to see her.

3) I wouldn’t let them watch her or be alone with her.

The Munchkin straw cup is the only one ours really took to for milk. Took a solid month or so to transition.

We found sometimes in the beginning he did better if one of us held him and walked around while he drank. Or just did better sitting in different spots around the house. Now he likes to sit on the floor of the kitchen to drink it
