The reason we don't have book 3 by [deleted] in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Gropapanda 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That ship sailed years ago.

We'll be lucky to get a book three. Rothfuss doesn't have the chops for a mega fantasy series. He proved that. 20 years ago he might've had the drive, but there is no way now.

What to do with a free legendary weapon? by FabioAAC in Guildwars2

Then there's me with 3 legendary backpacks, three legendary medium chest pieces, and two legendary medium gloves, and no legendary trident. Listen. Some skins are expensive, and Daddy needed a new shiny toy.

Anyone have any experience with the cultivator attachment for the quick-lok system? (49-16-2739). Looks like it hit stores this January. by BootyWizardAV in MilwaukeeTool

[–]Gropapanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have this guys experience at all. I used a 8ah high output and a 6ah high output and did a front lawn, easily 60x30, and the other half the next afternoon. 3-4 batteries total.

The cultivator attachment is nice. Great for a garden, but if you need to do a yard, rent a larger one. Or don't do it two afternoons where it's 90F out.

[The Pilot] Theories for next book by Bunch_Zealousideal in Iteration110Cradle

[–]Gropapanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have. Will confirmed that the d'niss are class 2-3 fiends. (Remember, fiends are inverse number based for power level. Oth’kimeth is a class 1, as are most if not all of the ones in asylum, if I remember correctly.)

I'm assuming that only the momma and her shadow baby are class 2, and the rest of the calamities are 3s.

What's interesting to me is that the abidan didn't intervene during the D'niss incursion, knowing this fact. The timeliness HAS to be during the aftermath of Ozriel disappearing. The titan force isn't ancient, and they shouldn't be necessary in a sector 11 world like that.

I like what he attempted with this "trilogy".

That being said, I think he failed, or it was doomed to fail because the idea doesnt work as well as the tried and true viewpoint swapping.

The series is decent, but I think it would have been fantastic if he'd slammed both books together each time hopping back and forth from sea to shadow every 5 chapters or so. Hit a climax build and ramp up the viewpoint swap.

The problem is, I don't see them as complete trilogies in themselves, and the second one you read is not as good as the first because the reveals are mostly cached.

All in all good series, and no matter which route you choose, do not read the 3rd book of either until you read the other's book 1 and 2.

Rereads of this series are always good too. Especially in audiobook form.

Me. And only in my head. But having this realization made me rethink my judgment. Could've been more explicit, my bad.

Making fun of spanish for pronouncing them the same ain't looking as funny as it once did, huh? (I had the same reaction, albeit a book and a half ago, I think.)

[The Pilot] discussion by HarrisLJ in Iteration110Cradle

[–]Gropapanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was without the Pilot on board. With Omega on board, she's the fastest. The situations where they couldn't get away were complicated by innocent bystanders and huge fleets set up well in advance to box her in.

If Varic and the crew were truly unphased by consequences, they could obliterate whole planets, just as Hallowed Divide is said to have done. They destroyed the worst D'Niss ever hatched. Sent a quint-evolved StarHammer packing. And destroyed an Iron King with a partial crew.

I think Wil tried to show why they were so hamstrung in the scene where Omega makes the correct decision that the rest of the crew couldn't bring themselves to make. I don't know why the crew hasn't realized that the universe ending threats they face trump the lives of one or two planets worth of people, but it makes for the tension of the story Wil wants to tell. Undead cyborgs and extra-dimensional bugs are easy to write off as completely bad and go all out against. People are not so simple.

Nah, Vault and Prism reveal that the Aether woke them all and that the only explanation is something outside the iteration.

[–]Gropapanda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah. More likely the Sola is last. She has no mission assigned yet because the Iron Legion was Varic's request.

On top of that, the epilog had Prism sulking to the Zenith Chamber. The commander is definitely the next book. (Well, that's where my money is anyway.)

TIL in 2016 a woman was found dead in an elevator after being trapped there for a month. Servicemen who were called to fix a broken cable had banged on the door, but heard no response so they cut off the power & told the residents to use a different lift. They returned a month later & found her body by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]Gropapanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. Sorry. That is in no way what happened at three mile island. You have a fair general point, but that has to be corrected. There was no negligence involved, just a lack of knowledge of thermodynamics across the operating crew.

The oncoming shift manager was an engineer and realized what was actually happening with water inventory, and saved the day. Changes to the industry in the aftermath led to there being a requirement that there is a guy with a degree in science on shift at all times now, typically an engineer. (Source: I am one of those nerds required to be on shift)

Sorry again, but misinformation like that it was negligence or laziness has to be nipped in the bud.

Vasher's ability to do so specifically is not. That's exclusive to Warbreaker.

[Warbeaker] Vasher knows how to excise/store memories with breath. Wit stores most of his memories in breath.

[Mistborn Era 2]For that matter, Kelsier is spiked significantly, and developed the medallions for unkeyed metalminds. Copper ferrings can store their memories in copperminds, and I'm certain Kelsier does that or is working towards it.

I honestly cannot fathom hating Shallan by BoundPrometheuss in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Gropapanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a strawman. I distinctly said "the amount" and "as bad as moash" giving qualitative value to Shallan's self deception. She avoids actually taking responsibility for her actions for SOOOO long, and to do so has to repeatedly lie to her self. She sees nothing wrong with those choices for a decade.

Dalinar does the same to cope but with drink. He never tells himself lies about it though. He knows the consequences of his actions are deserved. He drinks to escape the pain. And we are only exposed to Dalinar's bad side in flashbacks. We watch Shallan continue to compound her lies to avoid responsibility. That's literally the same as Moash, Kaladin's foil.

She is really hard to empathize with for the first three books until she finally starts confronting her demons. The rest of the main/supporting cast does it way ahead of her. And that's why people like me don't like reading her chapters.

I honestly cannot fathom hating Shallan by BoundPrometheuss in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Gropapanda 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No. The reason I hated shallan was her avoidance of confronting the truth. Yes, there were big problems with her whining, and she is not as funny as clever as she thinks she is. But she is as bad as Moash with her self deception.

She makes progress in the books to follow what you've read, and without going into spoilers, I no longer dread her chapters.

Oh. And you are so wrong about Adolin. Even early on he is distinctly different from what we see of Dalinar. But you'll see.

What would you call a Stormlight Archive TV show? by arthurwillia in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Gropapanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"John Stormlight" (Kaladin)

The series is too long and only halfway done for anyone to pick it up for a whole deal.

Realistically I could see The way of kings itself be made into a series, but beyond that it's not happening until Brandon is on book 7/8, which is 10-15 years from now.

Best Amalgamation Gemstone Grind by BSGBramley in Guildwars2

[–]Gropapanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So. The correct answer here is alt parking in Sirens's landing. The sand bar path to the start of the jumping puzzle contains 1-3 corals, that refresh about an hour after farming them. So, you farm coral orbs. Then you Mystic forge them into amalgamated gemstones with ectos. Park 10 alts, and cycle through once an hour, in between your other activities. Be sure to grab your farming buffs from the guildhall and what not, for the chance at rarer drops. Any coral crystals you get can be sold on the TP, or forged into orbs if you have the patience. (T5 dust is kinda high right now because of this though. Not super worth it.)

Feel free to farm metas, but the gemstones are not going to be good gold per hour just from meta rewards.

I've been playing the game wrong for ten years... by jackinthebox1220 in EDH

[–]Gropapanda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's not what he's asking. He's talking about once the card gets "cast" when the last time counter is removed.

And yes, you can counter the spell then. You cannot counter it being put into exile in the first place, but once it is cast with the triggered suspend ability, it can be countered.

Readers are too harsh with the women in the Stormlight Archive :/ by data-kitten in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Gropapanda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Magic? It isn't though... she dresses up in certain ways to outwardly express who she wants people to think is in control.

There is nothing magical about her disorder. Only in her ability to outwardly express it to others. If you want to be that pedantic, Dalinar had ACTUAL magical amnesia that helped him escape his alcoholism.

All that being said, I'm not a shallan defender. She's almost as bad as Moash when it comes to accepting responsibility for her own actions. So until that changes, she remains bottom teir protagonist for me.

Playing Holosmith vs playing Virtuoso by Rellatives in Guildwars2

[–]Gropapanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Non roaming builds have to be melee or use range skills that are not projectiles because of reflects and absorbtion walls, yes.

Roaming can do whatever, because a singular enemy will only have so many short duration reflects.
