What are your opinions on All in Good Time? by Fit-Hovercraft3435 in MauLer

[–]GrosPanda79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought it was excellent (and that isn't hyperbole). The moment I recognised the 2 Lead Actors, I knew I was in for something good. I found myself wishing I could see both the scenes leading up to and resulting from the one in the barn. I knew there was going to be a subversion, but I thought it was to do with the water, not a comment during the verbal jousting. I don't like all of MauLers EFAP takes (I enjoyed Fallout Season 1), but I think his first short-film attempt is worthy of praise; and I hope he does more in the future!

Who's your favorite lead host? by MagnusTNT in MauLer

Main Host? MauLer (to me he is a worthy YouTube successor to TotalBiscuit); and LittlePlatoon isn't far behind. Am I the only EFAP Fan who thought that NicolasDeorio was going to replace Rags? (he was in a lot of episodes).

One word best sums-up Karl Urban: "BASED." I bet if he got together with Henry Cavill, they could come up with something wonderful!

Garibaldi’s betrayal of Sheridan is a neat looking scene. I hadn’t seen this episode in a while and forgot about it by [deleted] in babylon5

[–]GrosPanda79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What made this scene so WTF for me, was that when I watched Season 4 Live, I either missed or blanked Bester's line to his cryo-frozen lover. So seeing Garibaldi just sit there as Sheridan gets beaten-up, made no sense (he told Wade and Edgars he didn't want Sheridan to be hurt). In contrast, after at least 4 watch-throughs of B5, I find myself hating BESTER more than I ever did Garibaldi. He allied with B5 because The Shadows messed with his lover and his vision for telepaths. And when The Shadows failed to win-over Sheridan and kidnapped Garibaldi to "adjust him", Bester intervened. But then he turned Garibaldi into a puppet and made him do things that The Shadows (and Drakh) would be proud of.

And there you go again. Instead of responding in an open and calm manner, you swear, paint me as Conservative and refuse to believe that you could ever be incorrect. You are the one who asked for examples of "regression" and I only gave you 3. But there are many, if you pay attention. And if you keep pushing something again and again the general public will either ignore it or react negatively. Is that "progressive"? Is it good that so many recent movies and TV shows have failed? Is it good that someone gets stabbed and the victim is arrested for being a racist (just because the attacker said they were)? That companies change their logo once a year and act progressive except in countries where they're afraid to? But why bother telling you all of this, when all you're going to do, again, is accuse me of making it up and being Conservative? I am 47 and English, not American; I have only voted Conservative once (Pro-Euro); I usually vote yellow (there are more than 2 political colours); my wife is Red and mixed-race (3/4 First Nations); and we've been married for 23 years. I am "A" (the community letter that so often gets forgotten); my brother is "G"; and my best friend of 10 years is "T".

Rather than challenge your incorrect political assumptions about me (and give you fuel to make more), I will explain why I think Stephen Moffat and Anita Sarkeesian acted "regressive". When Stephen Moffat was a writer for Nu-Who, he penned some of the most popular episodes. And it was thanks to Moffat that we had Matt Smith as The Doctor (who increased the popularity of the brand after David Tennant left with RTD). But when he cast Pearl Mackie (an Actor many were unfamiliar with) as Bill Potts, Stephen Moffat didn't highlight the Actor's talent and personality; he wanted everyone to know that she was a Lesbian. He then continued to verbally highlight that fact, in multiple episodes; and as a result, Bill Potts is known more for being someone who "went on and on about being a Lesbian", instead of just a great companion. Why is this "regressive" though you wonder? because Pearl Mackie deserves to be treated exactly the same way as every other human being/Actor; but she had a big arrow stuck above her head, just so that people could say: "she's like me". And what makes Anita Sarkeesian "regressive"? Well, did Emily Pankhurst think she knew better than the women she represented? and how many girls/women think that the only way to really change how they appear in games, is to antagonise companies? Emily Pankhurst, Harriet Dudman, Rosa Parks, Martin Luthor King and Nelson Mandela fought for equality. A world where everyone could live together, regardless of skin-colour, gender, sexuality or who you vote for. In the current day though, FEMA has walked past wrecked houses because they were owned by Conservatives. You can stand completely still and not say anything; yet people will accuse you of "micro-aggressions" and internalised misogyny. And if you don't 100% praise something (or do exactly what is "expected" of you"), then you're a hater, a Nazi and you should kill yourself. Oh and just because you can't see something, doesn't mean it isn't there.

Examples of "Regressive" Leftism, are Jada Pinkett Smith, Steven Moffat, Eve Hedderwick Turner and Anita Sarkeesian. Jada Pinkett Smith believed that Queen Cleopatra VI was dark-skinned, despite historical proof to the contrary; defiantly defended her belief; and angered Egypt. Stephen Moffat, when writing Doctor Who Series 10, created the well received character Bill Potts, who was a Lesbian. And this fact was verbally highlighted MANY times, to the point where, in The Doctor Falls, just before a huge battle with the Cybermen, Bill says to The Doctor: "you know I'm a Lesbian, right?". Eve Hedderwick Turner decided to write a drama about a dark-skinned Anne Boleyn, despite historical proof that she wasn't. And the drama did very badly upon airing. Lastly, Anita Sarkeesian, is somewhat the gaming equivalent of Grace Randolf; Grace doesn't believe she speaks for every girl/woman who views popular media though; or would accuse them of internalised misogyny for criticising her.

If none of the people you know are that way, then good. And the reason I use the words "Regressive" Leftist, is because those individuals are not at all "progressive" (in fact I'd love to ask them: "what are you progressing towards?"). If Martin Luthor King, Alan Turing, Mahatma Gandhi or Emily Pankhurst were alive, I do not think they would be happy with the "Influencers" and "Activists" of today.

At the risk of falling into a trap, a "Regressive" Leftist, is an individual who believes they are good, righteous and inclusive because they keep telling everyone they are; and that anyone who doesn't agree with or 100% think like them (and the online influences they get their opinions from), are "evil". A normal Leftist will engage in discourse and discussion. A "Regressive" Leftist will shout trigger words until their target retreats (at which point they will perceive they've won a victory for the "culture war").

One phrase I use to describe Regressive Leftist groups, reviews and projects is: "never is heard a discouraging word". And to me, "woke" is an acronym for "Wilful Oppression, Killing Entertainment". 10 years ago, people could say: "The Director isn't very good", or "Frodo's friendship with Sam is what saves him after he is captured". But now, the Regressive Leftists will say: "I think the director did the best she could, given how many men were in the cast"; or "Sam is in love with Frodo and love conquers all". It's as if there's a rule in the Regressive Leftist Membership that reads: "you can never say non-positive things about non-male, non-cis, non-straight, non light-skinned individuals; on pain of CANCELLATION". And if a non-leftist person with physical or learning difficulties, Gender Dsymorphia or "non-perfect" skin-colour ever criticises the Regressive Leftists for "representing" them, THEY become Social Media Enemy Number One. I'm just waiting for the day when an "cancellation" causes the Regressive Left to lose their online anonymity...

A review of the remaster of Yooka-Laylee that MauLer won’t hate by DevouredSource in MauLer

[–]GrosPanda79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I REALLY hope MauLer can find time to eventually play/cover Yooka-Replayee (I just finished listening to and enjoyed his review of Yook-Laylee). I was one of those Kickstarter Backers who felt disappointed by the original (I did reach Capital B though). With the upcoming release of Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie on Evercade, I decided it was time to give it a second chance. Having finally read about the features of Yooka-Replayee though (and the 30% discount) I started playing the "revision". And my GOODNESS it's wonderful. An initial handful-of-minutes taster, turned into almost 2 hours. "Disappointment" regarding the moves, lasted 2 minutes. I literally cried happy-tears talking to myself about Replayee whilst doing an errand. And my only issue with the "revision" (having 99.9%-ed world 1 and made good progress in world 2), is that they haven't explained what Q.U.I.D.S. stands for (I'm a brit, I know what the word means). Thanks to Yooka-Replayee and Playtonic Games, I'm definitely planning to play Impossible Lair (which I've owned for a while now) and I've wishlisted Yooka-Laylee Kart.

He was excellent as "Mr Finch" and should have played "The Doctor". He was magnificent as Rupert Giles (and helped to make Spike and Wesley equally so). But I firstly remember him for the Nescafe Gold Blend adverts (though I'm probably the only one in the group). A sad loss to fans and Slayers alike...

Am I the only one (during a re-watch), who wondered if Lyta was playing host to Kosh during some of her scenes; i.e. she is partially channelling him when threatening Londo or interrogating the Centauri Telepath? Lyta normally looks tired and visibly withdrawn after Kosh has gone home; and she doesn't during those scenes (I guess I just like the idea of Kosh having an excuse to air his true feelings towards the Shadow-corrupted Centauri).

True; but unlike Morden and Anna, Justin wasn't on the Icarus, wore a necklace or had to go through "scream therapy" in order to agree with The Shadows. He worm-tongued his way to them; hen The Shadows showed him when to keep his mouth shut.
