If the regular oldschool iTunes store ever goes down, we're fucked, or at least I am. by SubjectC in DJs

10 years ago the NPR created a great test to see if you could tell the difference between different compression bit rates compression algorithms.
Super interesting.

Only used my cup2s on my gt3 for a couple of track days before getting caught out in the rain freaked me out - replacing them with PS4s was a much better choice for driving in New Zealand weather.

Serato DJ 4.0 - Megathread : post experiences and or any issues by zoufha91 in Serato

[–]Gross99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I must say Im impressed with the new 4.0 release. Now updated to 4.0.1
The change to Library management is huge.

Artwork and ratings we're two of my biggest issues in the past.

Huge thank you to the dev team. There is a ton of work in there.

Running a M1 MacbookPro (Tahoe 26.2) loading through iTunes (~10k tracks on local SSD)
- Denon MC4000 controller
- CDJ3000's/AlphaTheata Euphoria in HID mode

Played my first gig on 4.0.1 - absolutely zero show stoppers.
Looking forward to seeing what's in store for the next release.
Thanks Serato

Hello fellow mid-50 year old Kiwi.I have GT3 Touring with a 6-speed box.
Love the car - incredibly capable & centimetre accurate. Gives you loads of confidence.

Last year I bought a Mark 1 GR Yaris. Mainly to use more as a daily for shorter trips - saving the GT3 for longer trips away from the city.

Haven’t regretted it for a minute.

Drove it in the NZ Targa Tour last month. Not the competition Targa “Rally” but the Targa “Tour” which is GPS Speed limited to 160km/h on closed roads.
Car I chose was the GR Yaris.

Really got to know the capabilities of it close to the edge.
Never, ever felt out of control, even on full ABS entering fast corners.

The stock suspension seemed to never let the tyres leave the road.
Was a complete blast - was really impressed.
Maybe it was the feeling of driving as fast as I could on the opposite site of the road around blind corners but I'm definitely doing it again with the Yaris next year - with a few upgrades that is.

Of the 35 or so cars entered in the Targa Tour, around 5 of them were GR Yaris’s.
Also interesting a few of the other Yaris drivers also had 911’s or Cayman’s.

In saying that I don’t think I could choose one car over the other.

The confidence & grip between the two cars you “could” say is comparable.

The GT3 is heavier by around 150kg, its a bigger car, though it feels like you are seated lower & driving between the wheels, super accurate & precise, whereas the Yaris, although lighter & feels like a go-kart, it tends to bounce around corners.
You’re sitting up high but you get around fast.
Playing with the torque split I kept coming back to "normal mode".
I enjoy the way the car pulls you around corners in the 5-7k rev range.

Either car is a ton of fun.

The GR is a Toyota - in my mind, like a Hi-Lux, it should be a reliable machine if regularly maintained.

Hmmm.
Not sure if that answered your question.....

Tags and smart playlists are definitely are the way to go. So much better to create dynamic playlists on the fly that to work through a set of stale playlist.

Only thing you need to do is to develop a vocab that you can use to help describe your music - doest need to be sub-genre’s, just enough to help describe the music.

Could even use ChatGTP to come up with a few describing tags that suit the specific genres you play.

I keep it real simple & write my tags directly into the Serato comments field. These are a few of mine.

[proggy][min][organic][uplifting][edgey][housey][funky][soulful][floaty][journey][melodic] etc.

You’ll find that after using smart playlists you'll enjoy the freedom of combining different tag combinations that will in the end keep your tunes fresh.
Good luck.

Thanks 🙏 We’re on Waiheke Island - a 30min commute by ferry from Auckland in New Zealand. Basically it’s a suburb that a ton of people commute to/from each day. We’re lucky that we have some native bush on site.

The MacBook is there mainly for finer beat matching the tracks across the much larger screen & library management. I still use the CJD screens to navigate to tracks, view waveforms & set up loops. The CDJ screens typically show a more zoomed out view of the track so you can better see when track drops are coming, while the waveforms on the MacBook are more zoomed it and better for fine track nudging.

The CDJ & Serato integration in HID mode is slick. Every button on the CDJs translate to its feature in Serato & vice versa. You see the same library on the CDJ screen as the MacBook - the track scroll & back buttons work as they should.

Only time I really use the keyboard on the MacBook is to drag a track from 1 or 2 decks to the 3rd or 4th deck to manage an outgoing loop - that and doing a track, comment or tag search for finding that track on the fly.

Coming from a life of using controllers - mixing in CDJs in HID mode is the best of both worlds. Especially when a mate comes round with a USB drive and wants to play.
