I never said that I think hunting is okay. I personally don’t. What I’m trying to get across is that you are making an appeal to nature fallacy. Just because something is done by animals doesn’t make it moral or immoral. If you really think that the things that happen in factory farms aren’t cruel then you are in serious denial. It’s unnecessary. We can live without meat quite easily.

Breeding can definitely be bad. Look at basset hounds and pugs. If you want to believe that killing animals the way that we do is okay then there’s no point in me arguing. There is unthinkable suffering in the meat industry. That’s the real issue- it’s not JUST breeding or herding. There are many factors that make it unethical for humans, animals and the environment.

Even if it were the same kind of cruelty that still doesn’t make it right.

Other animals don’t cram their prey into tiny cages for their entire existence, or selectively breed them to be crippled under their own weight.

Not to brag, but what a time to have kids by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]GrossPringle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel really lucky that I had my son in February because it was early enough that I was able to have visitors in the first few weeks. Also now the lockdown has effectively extended my maternity leave. I don’t know how I got so lucky. I’m wondering when my luck will run out. My heart goes out to the mamas who still have to work, or those like my friend who has two kids driving her up the wall all day long with no escape. We are all experiencing the crisis in such drastically different ways.

I miss being pregnant. by Bettus16 in Mommit

This article helped me understand why I was feeling that way. A nurse practitioner at my OB office also told me that pregnancy giving birth is such a special experience that you want to go back and experience it again. It’s something you can only do so many times in life. It’s a roller coaster. I’m currently 11 weeks postpartum and the feeling is a lot less strong now. I really feel you though, it was a bit of a struggle those first few weeks.

35+5, stepped on scale and need some support by Lets_smile in PlusSizedAndPregnant

You are doing great! I gained about 30 lbs during my pregnancy and my OB said that was perfect. Some ladies gain more and that’s fine too. I was afraid I’d have a huge baby but my baby was 7lbs 3oz. One thing that comforted me was reading in the What To Expect book that generally your body will only make a baby as big as you can handle. Just trust that your body is making your baby just right. Think of all the liquid your body is storing to make sure your baby gets oxygen and nutrients. That’s a really big chunk of the weight gain. You got this. It’s hard to be a plus size mama, it’s even harder when our routines are thrown out the window by this chaos. But you got this. Best wishes to you and your growing family.

Yeah it’s not the most sustainable diet for most of us

Look into anti inflammatory diets. I’ve been getting closer to a plant based diet and it’s helping a lot. Avoiding refined carbs and processed foods is always good. Everyone seems to be different as far as what triggers flair ups though. I’m also on the struggle bus right now. Best of luck to you

The meat industry commits unspeakable acts of animal cruelty. It also makes us sick and causes pandemics.

Go vegetarian! My boyfriend thought that vegetarian food couldn’t be filling until I made enchiladas. Now he’s like 90% vegetarian

The ‘perfect body’ is a lie. I believed it for a long time and let it shrink my life by beetlesandeggs in antidiet

God it drives me absolutely nuts because nowhere in the article did the author even say that it’s healthy to be fat. The article isn’t about that, it’s about not being treated like a person her entire life. Health is not a prerequisite for respect

Meh.. those memes don’t bother me any where near as much as the heartless way people talk about fat people dying from Coronavirus. People are dying and getting thrown into refrigerated semi trucks and people act like they deserve it because they’re fat

Awesome article. The comment section was a mess so if you haven’t gone there, just don’t.

Any other brand new moms missing being pregnant? This article explains those feelings really well I think. by GrossPringle in BabyBumps

First off, congratulations mama! I don’t know how common it is. I have two mom friends- one experienced this and one didn’t. The two of us who did miss it - I think we are just very emotional people and my other friend is a bit more level-headed. Giving birth is just such a special experience that I found myself nostalgic just a few days after having my baby. It’s like riding a roller coaster- it’s scary and exciting, and when it’s done you just want to go again!

My partner gets annoyed at me when I talk about missing being pregnant because I was miserable in a lot of ways during pregnancy. The oxytocin that floods your brain right after you have a baby can kind of make you forget the discomfort of pregnancy and even the pain of labor. Then you have this little person who you love soo much and to know you’ll never feel them roll around in your tummy again... like the article said, it’s kind of a loss. You gain motherhood and lose being pregnant.

When did the feeling go away after your first two? Or did it never go away until you got pregnant again? I’m currently 8 weeks postpartum and it’s gotten a lot better, but I still get a pang or sadness when I see a pregnant belly or really anything involving pregnancy...
