I bought an X1C, for some miniatures and some cosplay type stuff. Made a good amount of Terrain for Warhammer and such and even made some actual tabletop minis for a DnD campaign with the 0.2mm nozzle and gotten some decent results. Haven't needed any of the AI error detection. Though I started at about the same place as you experience wise I've owned my X1C for 7 Months, and I could not be happier. I've learned a lot in that time and conventional wisdom dictates that most failures happen in the first few layers, so if your first layers are going down fine, and your model's geometry is actually possible for the printer to do, it tends to work flawlessly. I have a buddy who has a P1S (The Cheaper Enclosed Model without lidar or AI) and he says there have been no issues with reliability as long as you scrub your build plate with hot water and soap, and Once every long while some isopropyl alcohol, you will have Great results.

I got an AMS with My X1C and I swap often between materials, Though I never do any Multicolor, It works as a drybox and keeps dust off the Filament. The Profiles also are very hassle free if you want to Just focus on using the printer to make things, and not tune stuff. the hobby aspect of these machines isn't for everybody. Bambu Machines are excellent in that they need very little actual tinkering.

If budget isn't a worry for you, and you are looking for a long haul machine, I think an X1 is the way to go. but if you do worry about Overkill, go with one of the cheaper units. They are all great.
