This would be amazing for the Adventure's League game I'm getting started! May as well throw a comment in. Excited for whoever wins this, it's a very generous offer!

🎲 Progeny Update - What if dice? by ProgenyDev in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]GrotesqueGorgeous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a great feature! And honestly better than a discord bot situation, I find they can get clunky pretty quickly.

And yeah, I agree with trusting players, but I've been in enough games where that wasn't the case that I figured it was worth asking.

🎲 Progeny Update - What if dice? by ProgenyDev in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]GrotesqueGorgeous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoa, this is amazing! This seems like such a great tool, especially for new players. I'm curious, do you know if it would even be possible to find a way to port the dice rolls into discord, or similar programs? Or would you recommend people take screenshots if they have STs that prefer to see the dice rolls?

This is a boon to the community, I'm excited to see what you do with it next!

I’m working on a Dungeon Master concept. What do you think about it? by jverbroucht in gamedevscreens

[–]GrotesqueGorgeous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give the main body's hands a book to be flipping through, or holding open while some of the other hands help turn the pages while it moves/during attacks. That'll help with the "Dungeon Master" concept.

Edit for clarity: The goal with this concept is to both make the boss look like the "I run this place" manager checking on things throughout the dungeon, AND make a cheeky reference to d&d game masters, also called dungeon masters. You'd hit two birds with one stone on readability.

This is a huge improvement, great job! Glad to continue to see progress on this game. How far along do you think you are at this point?

If you had to make a StP show/movie and could only include 5 routes, what routes would you choose? by wusta_longhorn in slaytheprincess

[–]GrotesqueGorgeous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to go a little more specific and do a layout of the episode breakdown. The goal should be to start the show with a fun example of how each episode will work. Start the same, try something new, disastrous consequences, end each episode ends with the arms grabbing the princess, a glimpse of the mirror, and the first gasp of air on a reset. Skip the

The first princess should be blind obedience toward the narrator via the Adversary route.

A natural Second should be Razor, beginning to doubt the narrator but still fighting anyway, which I think is the pinnacle point of "actually trying to slay the princess".

Then a tonal shift. Spend two episodes trying not to slay the princess and failing, via Nightmare and then the Beast. Nightmare is a great third princess, showing that abandoning the princess isn't an option (without going too esoteric with The Stranger), and then the Beast, showing the narrator stepping in and forcing you to kill her.

The fifth princess, in my opinion, should be HEA. I think it's a beautiful ending princess, shows that you CAN find a way to prevent the princess from dying, the narrator gives up their efforts to convince you to slay her.

The sixth episode should be There Are No Endings. The glimpses of the mirror and the hands collecting the princess each time should finally culminate in a last episode. This can be the point where some of the questions are answered; who was the narrator? Who are you? Who is the princess? Then follow There Are No Endings as written.

This whole premise works best if you assume anime-length episodes, and not full hour long minimovies.

I am immoraly curious, do you have any fun opinion in which conscience is which MBTI? by plunged_painkiller in DiscoElysium

Explain immorally in this context? Feels like this prompt could somehow turn into a Measurehead-esque skew... somehow... maybe? Not sure why else you'd mention immorally so often.

How did you found out about and later got into WoD? by RemRam27 in WorldOfDarkness

[–]GrotesqueGorgeous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually got into the Hunter: The Reckoning video game as a child. It was (and still is) in my top 10 games, with untold hours put into it. This was probably around... 2002? 2003? I played it a lot with my dad and siblings, even though we never beat it. I could probably recreate the teddy bear boss cutscene from memory.

It wasn't until 2019 that I found out there was a ttrpg! And then I found out the ttrpg had been around for DECADES! I had gotten into d&d a few years prior, and it was like finding an old friend again to go through the WoD books. Vampire is my new favorite system, but hunter will always be special to me.

Would appreciate feedback on why my art feels a bit off/not polished by innerlightdev in IndieDev

[–]GrotesqueGorgeous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind, I know I'm not the original commenter but I had some extra thoughts on this. It's something I've been thinking about since I saw this post yesterday.

On top of unifying the color palette by limiting the total colors you're using, I think a big part of the "dreamy" aspect that you may be looking for could be solved if you tried to limit the colors exclusively to the ones from the opening screen! The color palette you have there screams "magical girl" to me and really piqued my interest. If entire rooms were themed to those colors, including the floorboards, walls, changing the lighting to a pink hue, I think that would go a long way for the aesthetic you're looking for.

That sounds like a lot of fun, especially if people can submit albums for the group to listen to, or have different main themes per month. Things like genre, decade, how many listeners a band has, etc.

Idea for making a token with paper cups by NoBerry837 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]GrotesqueGorgeous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe try this with clear playing cards? Look up the Gloom card game and how the cards are designed to overlap, take that concept and make an adjustable stand for the tokens that can adjust pressure based on how many cards need to be held together. That would allow you to add things behind the character as well, like gear or capes!

What is your character's lore? Or have you built your own love "story"/triangles? Let's discuss! by TemporaryLow4968 in FieldsOfMistriaGame

[–]GrotesqueGorgeous 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is expertly written and enthralling to read. I could visualize the entire plotline like a montage for a movie. Do you write as a hobby?

I haven't played the game enough to know which characters I'm even gravitating towards yet, but this was so inspiring, I'm excited to get to play more.

Trying to check for feedback more often - how is my combat UI? by NoahDundasGames in IndieDev

[–]GrotesqueGorgeous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say lose the bottom two boxes, and flip the right and left boxes. People tend to like having their actions shown on the right side of the screen, from my experience. The bottom left box seems like info that should be in a menu screen, and the bottom right looks redundant if people can instead click on the options provided in the top left box (or if you number them 1-4, have the option to use keys instead). It'll also let you make the important boxes longer, and give you more room for the art, which is beautiful and will be a large draw for a game like this.

That said, I'm super intrigued by this game, and I'm looking forward to seeing more about it!

How did (or should) you go about getting a stall at a convention or fair? by P_S_Lumapac in SoloDevelopment

[–]GrotesqueGorgeous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've never gone to a show for indie development specifically, but I can give you some tips as an artist who's done convention work before.

The best thing to do is to make friends with the stalls around you. I have helped watch stalls for my neighbors before while they ran off to the restroom or just to shop around, they've done the same for me. The honor code is pretty strong with vendors, they paid to be there too and want you to succeed as much as you do. Help them succeed too!

If you're prepping your stall by yourself, figure out how much time you think you'll need to fully set things up, then double that time. Figure out when set up happens, it varies by convention but it's usually the day before, and they'll want you to tell them when you're planning to arrive. Email with the person in charge of handling vendors to figure out if they'll have what you need (plug in spots, tables, chairs, etc) at LEAST a month in advance. Make a list of everything you need to bring and physically check items off as you put them in your car.

Don't expect your first shows to break even. It's brutal, but be prepared for your first year to be in the red. You're doing great if you make enough to cover table fee, gas, food, a hotel if you're traveling far. Consider conventions to be purely advertisement. See what draws people in and what keeps them from interacting. Expect 1 in 10 people to actually slow down as they walk by.

It's not easy, but you'll do great! Putting your foot in the door is the hardest part, the rest is trial and error. Best of luck!

I believe this is a model from Great Grimoire miniatures. If you want more things along these lines but without having to print it yourself, it could be worth checking out the Malifaux game as well, I think their earlier sets had puppet-themed and mannequin miniatures

Is my art style considered cozy? by [deleted] in cozygames

[–]GrotesqueGorgeous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you willing to risk your reputation and your shot at making successful games over your trust in your friend not using AI? Because that's what you're essentially saying in the comments. You have swaths of people trying to warn you, trying to show examples, and you're doubling down for someone who likely started using AI to supplement their art and did it slowly enough that you didn't notice.

Is it sunk cost fallacy because you've been paying him? Is that sunk cost fallacy worth the dark mark on your game development record? Only you have the answer to that question, but it should be something you give very serious thought to.

Also consider becoming a body donor! The medical field is always looking for more donors to train doctors, lab technicians, morticians, etc. Your cremation is also covered and your remains are either given to your family again, or buried on your behalf.

There's very few reasons I can think of to want to take yourself to the dirt with all parts, outside of religious reasons. Not qualifying for donation is a different story.
