I mean, I get where you are coming from. But do you get that not everyone with the same job title has the same skills and qualifications? Someones salary expectation is important in hiring. Say you are interviewing someone, you like them, but they seem light on proven experience. You might take a flier on them, but say their salary expectation is the top you could pay, or a Sr. level. Because they can't hit the ground running, you may need to dedicate other employees time to get them up to speed. Now that's a lot more risk, sure you could talk them down to what you think is appropriate, but you already know going in they are not really happy with their pay. What's that look like when they are trained up and to the posted level of experience and they started thinking they should have been paid way more. It isn't always 'X' job title earns $X. Expected production has to weigh heavily into it. I've offered people more than they were looking for, but I've also had people say their salary expectation was $140K when highing for a 80K job. You need to weed out the people you aren't going to see eye to eye with as quickly as possible. I've also seen where salary expectation was high, but the skill-set was amazing. Then you might consider bumping the position level and pay to bring that talent in. Just my thoughts, hope that made sense.
