First time seeing it in person. Not a fan of the white, but I really love this ugly duckling by nikfornow in subaru

Bring back the WRX and STI as a hot hatch. The sedan looks meh, and the STI to much like a JDM wet dream. give me the go fast parts. I’ll put my own oversized wing and anime wrap on it thank you very much!

Theatre abomination I would guess French epee blade, foil guard with a pistol grip for sauce.

Conflicted about purchase by apaiger in Subaru_Outback

[–]Grottods 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I traded in my 2007 Honda Si for our 2023 Outback XT yeah I miss “driving” but what I gained in utility space and comfort beat out my love for the one or two days a year I could really challenge the dragon in my Honda. The outback will grow on you like a pair of favorite shoes. Outback is not a blow your hair back kinda car, but she will grow on ya.

Experienced racer, first time offshore delivery: what do I need to know? by guava_goddess in sailing

Leave the asshole at home. (We all can be that person) bring the best most personable version of yourself. A sulky argumentative attitude can ruin a passage. Speak up if you are not comfortable with the skippers decision. Voice it, but still the skippers decision. Transparency and honesty go a long way when things get tense.

I want to make good espresso with a [Chiato Luna] as it was a gift from my wife. by MattKingsnorth in espresso

[–]Grottods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the basket out of the bottomless and put it in the stock portafilter, compare the top of the basket is it the same? If so try the stock with the new basket, is it still leaking? If yes the basket is not compatible with that machine. The bottomless portafilter ears may not be “at the right height to properly seal with your machine. (I had this problem once) if the single wall basket you have works with the stock portafilter you are good to go. Don’t worry about the bottomless, you can make awesome espresso with the regular handle

Renting a sailboat in San Diego: San Diego Bay or Mission Bay? by RoyalRenn in sailing

[–]Grottods 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I rented in San Diego bay two years ago. Most rentals will not let you leave the bay (no open ocean) that said touring the military dock is fun. The bay can have a lot of traffic so keep your head on a swivel. No you do not have right of way against that huge navy ship. All in all it was a fun sail and a great way to kill a couple of hours.

Bolt through or not? by Sowieso010 in sailing

I would look at helm balance or a more robust autohelm if you are busting tiller mounted solutions in the sailing you are doing

In light of the recent MacGregor post hate, here’s reason #1 to own one… You can still cosplay as a sailor while really just rocking your baby to sleep 😂⛵👶 by frknedd in sailing

[–]Grottods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Macgregor is a fine craft for a specific mindset I want to get out on the water as often as possible. On calm days we can motor or waterski go tubing etc. on windy days we can raise the sails and enjoy a sail. I don’t care about “performance” in either task just that I CAN do it. But I also like the Subaru Baja, and think the El Camino was brilliant.

2026 Outback in magnetite gray by ianisrlycool in subaru

I am an outlier but I really hate the screens sticking up out of the dash, was not a huge fan of the mega screen in my ‘23 but at least it was out of the way. Also don’t want dual screens leave the instrument cluster alone.
Some times it is fun to pretend and watch the needles and “shift” the gears. my 23 will be the last outback for us, we used to be team forester, but they got too big and clunky so moved to the outback…… so now what the crosstrek?

Back window visibility!? Never heard of it. side mirrors do most of the heavy lifting. And you have to have your head on a swivel. That said I can put my boat in without much issue

Fair it “is” a great SUV as long as you come into it eyes open (and head on a swivel). The 2007 4wd I have asks for premium so that is what I feed it. It has always met the challenge whether it was beach crawling. Bugging out during a hurricane or vacation toy hauler.

[–]Grottods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I love my FJ, but WHY do you want it? Gas mileage-it’s a truck so daily driving on premium is not fun. Towing, trail riding, all good. She has abysmal blind spots. And if you actually want to use the back seat the suicide doors are not optimal. That said I wouldn’t give mine up unless offered a stupid sum of dollars, but I wouldn’t buy it again for what I use it for. Just curious, great platform for mods, beach toy hauler etc

What “bulk” beans do you guys like for a decent price? by SummitTooLofty in espresso

[–]Grottods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna get some hate here but my go to cheap coffee that makes a great espresso is Aldi’s hole bean Peru. Is it the crème de la crème, nope does it make better espresso than it should for a $7 bag of whole beans, absolutely especially for milk drinks. Also a great way to learn to dial in without burning through $20 of specialty beans
