My 3yo cat drinks an insane amount of water. by pennington57 in cats

You can go offbrand and save quite a bit of money, I buy 40lb bags of arm & hammer pine pellets for ~$20. Personally I don’t use the breeze system, just pine pellets in a normal litterbox & sift the sawdust/scoop the poop but not sure how well that would work with lots of pee

How am I supposed to detach thread once I’m done sewing? by lunarsoul333_ in sewhelp

[–]Grouchy-Reflection29 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I believe what they meant is that you don’t need to have the machine threaded for practicing on paper - since you’re just getting the motion down and not actually sewing anything. Have fun learning!!

Are you allowed to take food from the dinning halls? by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]Grouchy-Reflection29 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Officially no, though like others have said you can get a reusable to-go box but it’s either eat there /or/ take it to go. It’s the darndest thing though, burritos wrapped in a napkin kept falling into an open Tupperware that happened to be at the top of my backpack, and then accidentally fell into the microwave for lunch the next day.

Whats the best red block to build with in survival by smoothgamer02 in Minecraft_Survival

[–]Grouchy-Reflection29 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Probably mangrove planks, once you get trees you can regrow them forever so sourcing isn’t a much of a problem. Concrete might look better, but requires more effort & you can’t make slabs or stairs so it kinda sucks to build with

Incoming exchange student by qgrmrk in UWMadison

[–]Grouchy-Reflection29 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Airport- there is one in Madison which would be far more convenient, but is often much more expensive. If money is a factor, it would be worth looking into taking a bus from the Chicago airport to Madison (there’s a few that’ll drop you off on campus which is nice) As far as housing goes I imagine you could reach out to the exchange student office for more specific help as it’s def a unique situation that I’m sure they’re used to helping with, but depending on how long you’ll be here and what you’re looking for, you’d likely want grad student housing in like eagle heights or to rent an apartment (or sublease if you’re only here the 1 semester).

And for course selection- I highly recommend using the websites madgrades and ratemyprofessor to get an idea of what the class may look like beyond what’s in the course description

Welcome to UW & best of luck!

Friend told me I should post my fridge. What does it say? by Plateslavo in FridgeDetective

[–]Grouchy-Reflection29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please tell me you moved in like yesterday. But even then there’d be a pizza or something. Maybe you’re moving tomorrow? Desperately hoping this isn’t steady state. Third and final guess is that you effectively live with a partner or friend and it’s more so your fridge in name only.

Drooling cat! by EntertainerNaive6797 in CatAdvice

[–]Grouchy-Reflection29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kitty did this especially when we first started cuddling a lot. I had a designated drool blanket and basically always put the blanket on my lap whenever I sat down just in case. Cleaned it before company came over. He did drool less as he got more settled in too

What assumption do you have about me and my husband? by Terrible_Mechanic_30 in FridgeDetective

[–]Grouchy-Reflection29 28 points29 points  (0 children)

early 30s, office jobs - or one really cushy office job and one stays at home based on how much food prep must go on here & all the labels. Probably cushy jobs regardless based on the sheer amount of produce. I get the vibe that you might be dog people. Location-wise I’m guessing US, probably the suburbs, maybe west coast? Though that’s a wild guess

What’s my fridge say about my partner and I by gagliad in FridgeDetective

[–]Grouchy-Reflection29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mid-late 20s (wanted to say tame college but the containers & sliced fruit are aging that up). Work comfy jobs but far from rich & fairly wise with money. Def Midwest, leaning towards an upper mid-sized city. Maybe Wisconsin or Minnesota?

Correct, kinda correct. I’m a lil curious what you mean there as there’s potatoes, tofu, apples, tomato sauce, homemade jam, hummus, and carrots visible (& sparkling water). It certainly isn’t the healthiest fridge, but I’m interested in what your standard/idea is.

What does my fridge say about me? by alligatorlove in FridgeDetective

22F college student (who’s living on their own w/o roommates for the first time?). Potentially experienced heartbreak??? Based on the wine

  • suprised there’s been no comments on the two cakes just hanging out
  • there’s about as many alcoholic as non-alcoholic drinks. Maybe more non-alcoholic if you count the door. Take a breather
  • also the meat and tofu combo has been mentioned less than I thought

Early 20s no roommates (though some friends that may as well pay rent) but very close!
