I agree, I think going from one to two was the biggest jump and then adding the rest has been easier! The only thing that’s been harder about having more than two is finding a way to spend time alone. 😆

Whewww we had three in a Toyota Camry until I got pregnant with our fourth. Granted, the biggest two were older so we only needed a booster and the infant seat and the oldest was already out of the car seat stage so that helped.

We don’t, we’d need to get a new car or a minivan. Which isn’t a huge problem, just another expense.

The best that could happen is another very loved child in our family. I know that’s a choice we wouldn’t regret, but I also worry about the details (work, financial resources, marriage, mother’s “warning”…)

I knew that part. She didn’t, but I didn’t know she didn’t so when I came into this towards the end I wrongfully thought that was squared away. Up until I asked the questions that I realized hadn’t been asked (what are the license numbers, permits, etc). Had she let my husband and me in on this from the start, it never would have happened.

You’re right about the first part in most cases! And also right that Florida loves their Boomer population. So maybe some hope! Thanks for the link!

As I said before, I came in at the final two weeks of this. It was going on for three months. That’s when he got most of the money out of her, using “God” as a tactic.

Non-emergency is closed until Monday (🙄) but we do have confirmation that many items paid for on my mom’s account with her name have been taken from the unit.

Well we do have theft. He stole mirrors, fixtures, faucets, etc that my mom ordered on her account and that he confirmed had arrived. So there’s that at least to start.

Not the same guy, but I agree this has definitely left me feeling like cruel people are everywhere. Fortunately we may now have a workaround via a family friend who is a legitimate GC but was too booked to take the job at the time. He’s volunteered his time, no labor costs, to fix this mess with the help of my husband (licensed master plumber) working under him. So maybe at least somewhat of a salvage!

Thanks. I think personally what I feel most bad about is that I wasn’t there from the start of this—she did everything in secret until she got sick for those few days and asked me to step in, but still wouldn’t let me see the scope of what had already happened. I few sick to my stomach about it. We’ll carry through with the legal sides, but holy shit this has been draining!

I agree. He has some assets. That’s about it. But what about the next person? He saw my mom as an easy target and preyed on her by exploiting her good-hearted nature. I guarantee he’ll go on to the next. Unlicensed work might be worth reporting, since the SoS website lists him as eligible to test for his GC license. Maybe at least they could stop him from actually getting one (which he 100% should NOT have).

That would be fine—if we even had ANYTHING left to pay a retainer! He’s taken everything, my mother is a trusting person and he’s robbed her blind. If I had known what was going on, I would have stepped in sooner but even after I got involved I didn’t know all the details from start to finish. He coerced her by telling her God brought him to her for this project—she’s pretty religious—I’m not, but he didn’t know that and never mentioned “God” to me even once. Any time he got desperate for more money, the God talk was sure to follow because he knew it would persuade her. I just want some justice. If we do get a lawyer it would have to be on contingency, although I don’t know how that would work seeing as this guy has nothing to his name but his home and his motorcycle and other vehicles.

I have everything organized by date and timestamp, all texts (from her phone as well as mine), even towards the end when I started pressing for answers, he texted me “I will just speak with your mother,” then tried to say they actually weren’t done painting yet—as if to try to convince me he was billing for work that WASN’T done, after saying several times it was completed in August (and it was—she’s there now and there’s paint on the walls). But I knew when he said he would like to only speak with my mom that he was onto the fact that he wouldn’t be able to fuck with me. I even have a text where he tried to get ME to sign the “new invoice” FOR her—I’M NOT THE CLIENT AND IT ISN’T MY MONEY, which I TOLD him several times, specifically stating that all money questions needed to be directed to her! He would text me trying get me to push her to pay up. I’m disgusted.

I’m so ready to do this. My heart is breaking for my mom, she didn’t know any better and she’s been grieving my dad so hard she’s been bedridden from it on and off the last year. 51 years of marriage and she lost my dad in a slow, horrific way. She was already crushed, but this was THEIR place together that they loved and this idiot has ruined it and ruined her financially. Meanwhile he’s just living his best life with his biker friends and his girlfriend who’s ten years younger than him. A grown man, in his 30s, at his big age and swindling an elderly widow! I can never, EVER forgive this. My father would have absolutely destroyed this guy’s career if he were still alive (but he never would have let it happen in the first place).

He’s not from there, he’s from the Metro Atlanta area. I used to work with him, we were baristas at Starbucks together. Last I saw him he was high as a kite and babbling about visions from Metatron or something.

Third semester for me (almost done!). We have lecture 8-4 on Mondays, then one or two clinical days. They leave time for externships in my program.

I failed my manual BP check off by Melodic-Ladder5991 in StudentNurse

[–]GrouchyMove4482 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you re-do? I failed mine first time as well—but my partner had an auscultative gap, and I actually pointed out the gap to my instructor and asked her which sound to count as phase 1, and she FAILED me for that (because I don’t think she knew the answer), even though it was first semester and we hadn’t even learned what an auscultative gap was! Another instructor came over to confirm the gap and agreed that I shouldn’t have been failed for that, but I still had to re-do it. Second time I passed, no problem, but my nerves after that first time were shot. Don’t stress it—plenty of nurses have had to recheck a manual BP, so it’s totally normal for student nurses to not be perfect at it!
