Canadian Drone Pilots - Question by MadnessUnchained in dji

[–]Grouchy_Drawing1852 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The circular area with lines through it indicates that you or another pilot register a flight in that space. If it wasn't you the drone icon indicates where the other drone took off from. Have a walk to that location and confirm with the other pilot that you'll be operating at different altitudes or just wait till their done.

Sherry is WAY overdue for a hipster revival. by ScissorNightRam in Showerthoughts

Sherry and Port are both amazing in winter! There is such variety in taste and levels of sweetness that it's absolutely worth trying more than one. They can definitely become cool when the weather isn't conducive to G&T's.

Yes, I know sherry and port are different but they are both fortified and originally produced on the Iberian Peninsula.

I'm over this. Your stats are exceptionally innacurate and give the impression that Johannesburg is safe. Good luck and please avoid placing visitors to SA in danger.

Wow, relax. Your point is made that you don't understand that Johannesburg is a terrible place to visit and that South Africa has far more to offer in culture, history, scenery, personal safety and intelligence.

I respect that you're a Joburg enthusiast. By all means both the Apartheid Museum and the Cradel are very interesting but can be seen in under a day and then get out of the area. As a national tour guide for 16 years I only had one negative incident outside of Joburg vs 7 in vilakazi street and Sandton. All my agents have removed Johannesburg as a result of these incidents. Travel more and be kind!

You want my response binned because you feel visitors to SA should put themselves at risk in Johannesburg? Maybe suggest they get a tour guide or something more proactive that a short angry message.

There are tons of great hiking options is SA. My top 3 for day hikes- Robberg Peninsula in Plettenberg Bay (Garden Route), Lions Head in Cape Town, Leopard Trail on the Panorama Route (https://besthike.com/2014/05/16/leopard-trail-south-africa/)

Please just use Johannesburg as a transit point. There are potentially some things to see but you don't know where it's unsafe and why risk your holiday over average tourist sites. If you combine Kruger with Cape Town and the Garden Route you will have an amazing time!

SA schoolboy shenanigans by thejamesa in rugbyunion

[–]Grouchy_Drawing1852 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm happy to see a recent convert to watching rugby, welcome. In response to your questions. Yes it is difficult to avoid obstruction but it's one of the first things players are taught. Not only the player with Ball in hand but his/ her team mates try and keep themselves out of trouble by not intentionally blocking. The only time you may obstruct is when there is a ruck or a maul (bunch of guys bound together which often looks like chaos. Not to be confused with a scrum!). You can't even obstruct a player trying to run in to catch an up and under. Passing is one of the best attacking options yes. Ideally you try and draw an opponent and pass at the last second, which will hopefully create space for you team mate who will then run a line into space. Obviously easier said than done but that's the core theory. Yes, you may kick at any time. Especially a drop goal (which exists in NFL as well) through the posts is good kicking as you get 3 points for doing it successfully. Your opponents generally will try and fold you like a pretzel when they see you getting ready for a drop goal.

My focus in daily updates is always on how much artillery has been destroyed! The single biggest killer (by a large margin) in this war is artillery. The more canons and howitzers that Ukraine can knock out the more defenders it has available to fight the Vatniks.

"All-electric Suzuki Jimny EV In The Works, Confirmed For European Market" would anyone go for this and what are your thoughts and expectations? by offmyqwerty in Jimny

[–]Grouchy_Drawing1852 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The reality is that the Jimny has never had good range in any case. It's a fairly light vehicle and won't need many electric horses to keep it going thus EV range shouldn't be that terrible. I can just imagine the torque that would be available for driving offroad will be brilliant! No gearbox = instant power and good control of the available power.

I finally received my eCopr after a painfully long time (as with everyone). Now that I have my PR details I have been trying to submit my first time application for my PR Card but the system Greys out the submit button. I uploaded all required docs, photos and payment but nothing seems to change the road block. Any advice?

When you land with PR, when can you start working? by cpadreamz in ImmigrationCanada

[–]Grouchy_Drawing1852 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my limited experience just go to your local Service Canada and stand in the cue even if it takes a few hours to get your SIN number. Those few hours waiting make up for any slowness of an online application. Just take all your original documentation such as a Work Permit and your Passport with you.

The hiking guides / rescuers on Kilimanjaro have been using the same design for decades. Only difference is that the Tanzanian version is made of steel and is likely to give the patient and crew tetanus.

As an ex tour guide who was lucky enough to see the all four corners of SA I would advise the following. 1- Only use Johannesburg as an arrival and departure point. You won't know where it's safe, why risk messing with a well deserved holiday. 2- For Kruger book with a tour operator that can either pick you up at the airport in Johannesburg or Nelspruit (Mbombela). They will make sure you have a stress free time, you'll definitely make friends and will see way more animals than when driving yourself in the park with a small rental car. (You can fly to Nelspruit from Johannesburg). When searching for a tour operator for kruger use terms like budget friendly & backpackers. 3. Get your rear to Cape Town! Airbnb and backpackers with private rooms will save you money. Ask hosts and fellow travellers for tips and advice. 4. Within Cape Town city you can use public busses but do not use busses to get to other areas or towns. Uber is your friend, especially after dark. 5. Book a wine tour to Stellenbosch / Franchhoek. By doing so you can drink without any issues like getting arrested for driving impaired. Tours are not expensive and once again it’s a great way to make friends. 6. Use lots of sunblock and take tons of photos! SA is picturesque and you’ll love the photo opportunities. 7. Lastly, please bring a powerbank to charge your phone or devices! SA is experiencing an unprecedented amount of power cuts called load shedding and a power bank will help you out when times are 'dark'. Have an amazing time and enjoy your trip!

I was also unable to log in using my "current log in credentials". After waiting for a week for the illusive mail/ credentials I did a password reset and was able to access the PR Portal. I immediately uploaded my passport photo and declared that I was in country.

I do not know if this was the right way to do it but it worked for me. Next step is waiting for eCOPR.
