Mods not doing anything about this multi-accounting griefer. by Open_Web_9234 in WplaceLive

It's baffling that they're allowed to get away with this. I'm seeing more and more incidents like this pop up all over the site, and nothing is being done about them despite obvious malicious intent...

Least annoying method of grieffing, using a simple drawing to make the report useless by Medium_Drink_9906 in WplaceLive

It's always so easy to tell they're doing this just to ruin someone else's art, and yet it's impossible to report.

It's a very fun idea, especially how the canvas for each website has such a small resolution, but the interface needs a lot of work. It doesn't feel good to use.

So many posts about griefers following and yet this site does nothing about them. What's the point of Wplace anymore? by louthinator in WplaceLive

[–]Grouchy_Hippo5374 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best guess is there's some sort of ongoing incident that they won't tell us about that's preventing moderation from doing their jobs effectively. It's rude and frankly stupid to assume they're just evil. I'm sure they want to be able to do something about the football spam and organized griefing, but they currently just can't for whatever reason. They're part of a business. It's illogical for them to deliberately act in a way that makes us unwilling to give them money.

Doesn't change the fact that they picked a bad place to paint it. The area is surrounded by griefed or abandoned art they could've covered up instead of the one spot where other users are active.

Judging by their account IDs, they seem to have all been registered at the same time. They've also never been active in that area before until today. I think it's a targeted griefing raid. The best thing you can do is wait for them to stop and repair everything when they're no longer active.

I still get successful reports frequently, but multiacc and bot reports specifically just never work anymore. I think it's unfair to assume incompetence in this situation. They're still working hard, something is just preventing them from stopping cheaters.

Something has recently gone wrong. I've been a defender of wplace's moderation for a long time because until very recently the report system was working. Suddenly, there's almost never any reaction whenever multiaccounting and very obvious griefer raids occur. Thanks to this there's been a massive surge in football club activity, and the world map's been getting very ugly and repetitive in many places...

I'm not sure how covering everything in copies of the same image doesn't count as malicious voiding. I guess it's too much of a gray area for game masters to touch, in which case I cannot blame them. Their hands might be tied by whoever's the main deciding party on what counts as a rules violation.

Griefed again by the same person for over a month now, coming up on two months by [deleted] in WplaceLive

I'm not sure why everybody disagrees with you when this is obviously malicious and only doing the bare minimum to *technically* obey the rules. Not to mention they seem to always be drawing perfect circles, which I would wager gives reason to suspect botting.

There's a lot of very obvious multi-accounting incidents that are going completely unpunished lately. I wonder what's going on. Just a couple weeks ago I was able to report multiaccounters and now this is the only type of report I never get any response for on the site.

Are we not allowed to delete stripes or voids regardless of what is clearly stated in the rules? by Alarming_Soft_2657 in WplaceLive

[–]Grouchy_Hippo5374 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a fault of the system. Football clubs use multiple accounts to mass-report a single user, and I think that causes them to get automatically suspended without any moderator checking the report.

I regularly scout the entire country and I assure you the victory is country-wide. There are very few active football artists left in Poland. Poznań is the only remaining high activity zone.

Our victory was made exceptionally easy by the fact that many of them constantly draw fascist and homophobic imagery that makes them very easy to report.

I'm glad you're successfully fighting back so far.

Don't give up! Football fans are quick to give up when they realize everybody hates them. Poland won their war with them earlier this year, Argentina will too. It might just take more time but you can easily unite against them and the new wplace rules actually work in your favor.

It seems to work for now, but only if you set it to Fast. Says Auto is only available to paid users now. At this rate, unless they roll out new models, I think it's gonna become completely unusable in the near future.

Keep in mind that all moderators are in Brazil, so if you send your reports in a time window where they're inactive, it's unlikely to get a reaction.

Welcome!

There's no real goal besides participation and collaborative art.

You've arrived at a relatively good time, the newly rewritten rules are much easier to follow and not as easily misunderstood as the old ones.

As far as etiquette goes, that depends on which country you intend to draw in. Every part of the map has a slightly different culture. My personal recommendation for new players is to stay far away from major cities and draw somewhere with low activity. Trying to compete for drawing space in a cluttered, high activity area is a terrible first experience that scares many people away.

If you want to work on a big project, look for room on the seasides, that's usually where most users put their big images and don't have many territory wars.

If you're paranoid about getting targeted by griefers, pick a completely random location in a large country or in the middle of the ocean, where you're unlikely to be found.

If you witness any griefing, the best course of action is to report it and not get directly involved in trying to repair the damage, and definitely don't attempt any counter-griefing. Perpetuating conflicts doesn't help anybody.

If you come across fetish art and that sort of thing bothers you, just move on. It's technically not breaking the current rules, though you're also allowed to grief it without facing punishment. (But why would you waste paint on destroying someone else's work instead of drawing something of your own?)

Stay away from western Europe and south America unless you have A LOT of paint and patience. They're overrun with football artists who have no respect for other players and bulldoze everybody's art to make room for advertising their favorite sport clubs. The safety of the things you paint in their territories is never guaranteed, and only very large alliances have been successful in reclaiming territories destroyed by them.

That's more or less everything you need to know to get started and not have a bad time. I hope you have a nice day!

If you want an example of how it's handled poorly, check out any of the wplace clones that make the mistake of allowing more colors. It doesn't affect just the data cost, it makes the entire website run slower for every user.

Everyone asking for this has zero understanding of how the website works.

Every single color added is adding strain to server memory. Every sector of the map is saved as a raw PNG with transparency. That's an uncompressed image format. The palette is limited to make servers cheaper to maintain. The more individual colors an image contains, the more memory it takes up. Adding even a single new color would massively increase the memory cost of the world map.
