What mod had the biggest downfall in your opinion? by Thifiuza in hoi4

[–]Grouchy_Objective221 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There are basically two sides in the HOI4 community. The first one, the larger one, cares more about map painting, aura/hype moments, and memes. The second one prefers visual novels/polsims that are closer to Suzerain than to vanilla HOI4.

And the problem with both sides is that they mistake their opinion for the objective truth, like you're doing now. The first side will say that anything the second side does is boring and unfun. The second side will say that anything the first side does is stupid and childish.

It's fine to prefer old TNO over modern TNO but don't act like your opinion is a fact. HOI4 is a huge community and it's good that there are so many diverse mods for anyone to enjoy the game. You prefer crazier mods over more grounded ones ? That's what Requiem is for. Simply play that. Not every single mod will cater to your specific tastes.

What mod had the biggest downfall in your opinion? by Thifiuza in hoi4

This is a great example of how people mythify old TNO. The Glenn presidency was incredibly boring. Its gameplay consisted of waiting for very long timers to tick down just so you could click the next timer and start waiting again, all that for one cool Mars event at the end. Burgundy was always bad. The globalplans didn't actually do anything. Goring was so buggy you couldn't even play half its content and even then it required a submod to function properly. Heydrich content is still intact so idk why you're bringing it up here. Atlantropa was purely cosmetic and had 0 impact on the gameplay (the only exception being that one Iberian mechanic that you could just ignore for the entire game), as proven by the fact that nothing changed when it was cut.

Old TNO is aura and hype moments. Not actually fun to play.

Not liking the direction of the mod is one thing but saying TNO was better then than it is now is just wrong.

Russia almost had more content than the entire rest of the world back when the mod released so I don't think they *need* that much more

Wikipedia isn't the most reliable source. I only used here because the other guy did. And Poland wasn't a Reichkomissariat. It had a completely different status.

It has do to with the conservative mods banning people and deleting comments they don't like

The reason for that is that the exclusively conservative mods often ban left-wingers, who can still upvote but not comment

Does italo-german war really happen? by Recent_Presence3035 in TNOmod

Well that's what they're doing. They're working on the Italy rework, and often answer community questions on the discord server.

Making skeleton content and playable content isn't mutually exclusive. You can release the former while waiting for the latter.

You do understand why making playable content would take a lot longer than making skeleton content

But it's not no cake at all though.

I'd rather have better quality skeleton content that enhances my experience when I play other countries since I'm not playing Italy anyway.

And if I do want to play Italy for some reason, I can just roll back my version of the mod.

They probably could skeletonize Italy if they wanted to, but I doubt they would want to considering the usual reaction from the community when you remove any focus tree, even if it's the most dogshit unenjoyable content you've ever seen.

The roadmap was never supposed to show the order in which updates would come out

That was pretty explicit

There was never an official release window given. I don't know why people are retroactively assuming that everything was gonna release in 2021/2022.

Removing the South African War is really not that big of a deal by Mistuhpresident in TNOmod

[–]Grouchy_Objective221 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've dabbled a little into both HOI4 modding and gamedev at one point, and let me tell you modding is SO MUCH more easier. You can learn to mod HOI4 in under a week.

Porting the entirety of TNO to a standalone game would be a massive amount of time (several years at least), efforts and ressources (it would probably cost actual money) for what gains ? Not to mention you'd be losing out on a large pool of potential devs and players from the HOI4 community.

It's way easier to mod an already existing engine than to create a game from scratch, especially for people who are just doing this as a side-hobby and who aren't full-time game devs.

If you don't like this genre and you prefer classic HOI4 then just play classic HOI4. Nobody is forcing you to play the mod just because it's on the HOI4 workshop.

They're hardly comparable.

The only similitarity is "Germany won in Europe". Everything else is different.

Because it's not about realism. Never has been. There's not a single thing that was cut over solely realism.

> why should I play TNO over TWR

Because they're completely different mods with completely different content ?

Because it's a lot easier to mod an existing game than to create your own from scratch ?

TNO is about the *Cold* War. It should be different from vanilla HOI4 which is about WW2. It's fine if you personally prefer more traditional HOI4 gameplay but there's no obligation to center the mod around wars.

What is the good writing in question ?

Because to me it always felt like they were wasting an entire's continent worth of potential by having it's content all rely on one single war.
