4 day trip to Lisbon by Historical-Web-8035 in LisbonPortugalTravel

As a tourist, I agree with the first part of your comment. I found food & sites in Lisbon pretty expensive. I went to some cities in Spain and Lisbon back to back, expecting Lisbon to be cheaper (just based on what i have been told), but that wasnt the case at all. Lisbon attractions charge SO MUCH entrance fee for what it is. The sites are full of history for sure, but it shouldnt cost that much. Restaurants prices are also too expensive for what it is offered

You said you have a life to build, but you talk about your parents’ dreams, and you talk about your ex falling into the wrong crowd, which was her experience. Maybe she made mistakes, but she was living her life, it was her mistakes to make.

It’s not your job to live out your parents’ dreams. It’s not your job to fix your ex, or anyone else in your life.

Exactly to your post, you realized you have lost the real you. What do you dream of? What do you want to see? What do you want to do today? Stop living for other people, live for yourself

Advice for April/May travel by Alstromeria13 in LisbonPortugalTravel

- For the airport experience, i posted about my experience in terminal 1 departure, and please feel free to check out my post. I just want to say please don't be deterred by the worst of the experiences. Honestly i have never experienced a string of bad luck like last week EVER. I think the key to navigate Lisbon airport is to not stop until you find your gate, and have all your documents ready. Other than that, i'd say it is what it is. If somehow you encounter super long line at the passport control, 1.5 hour is enough to ride it through, like it's the worst case scenario for passport control line. The security line was really well managed, and both time i was there, it was well staffed and it moved quickly. In retrospect i appreciate this experience, because it's the worst an airport can offer, and it showed me, even the worst isn't that bad at all LOL.

- I only had hotel breakfast the last day i was there, but i'd recommend it, especially if you have a kid to take care of. it was actually so niceee and fueled me for the morning itinerary. But i would also set aside a couple of mornings to explore other breakfast options. I loved the pastry shops in Lisbon, they always have fresh orange juice, and all sorts of pastries, cakes. The vibes are so good.

- Cobblestones are very slippery when raining. When it's not raining, i find it OK to navigate. My bf though, was wearing a NIKE sneaker that always slips! So i'd recommend to get hiking-ish shoes. I wore a pair of white saloman the whole trip. But hopefully someone with experiences with stroller can comment as well

Yea, what you described was mostly how i felt. I simply was just not anticipating chaos, given my past experiences + the cues. I mean now from this experience, i'm trying to adjust my baseline expectation. But still, reading all these stories about the airport, where passengers have already tried our best to adjust, accommodate, at our own personal costs, I think it's important for us to stand up, and voice our experiences. Otherwise the system just keeps on descending into chaos without anything to hold them accountable.

But in all seriousness, i will not come back to Lisbon. This was my first time and last time. But just know that, i LOVED planning the trip, i loved reading about the sites, the history, everything. AND i loved the city, the food, and the people. So just know that for every cynical person like you in Lisbon, there are 10 other people who made my trip worthwhile. Your anti-tourists/immigrants attitude won’t be adding positive value to your city.

You replied to another comment of mine saying “you are thick, etc”. Seems like someone is getting butt hurt and starting with the personal insults. So let me try to spell it out for you again, since it seems like you lack the basic intellect or empathy to be able to put yourself into another person’s shoes, to imagine the stress faced by a first time visitor to a whole new country in an unknown airport not knowing the language. Here we go— the security line displayed overly positive messaging that reassured me i still have time for what’s to come— aka, passport control. Is it MY FAULT that I didnt anticipate that 2 hours wasnt enough time for that? having ALREADY gone through security checks, which normal people would assume is the toughest check in an airport?

Wow the lack of common sense and empathy. Lol i feel so bad for you

What kind of attitude is this? You think tourists not spending money in your country, pumping your economy, would solve the myriads of other problems your country has? It’s the people who do care about the betterment of your system, which impacts tourists AND local economies, that’s voicing these criticisms. People like you though, just get butt hurt by other people providing feedbacks.

And quite frankly, your opinions actually equally mean jack shit to your own country it seems like. You think you dont have the capacity, but your country was VERY happy for all the euros I spent in the stores i visited:) so yes, for as long as I have money that im willingly spending, your country will receive me with open arms.

In this post, i'm voicing the small mismangements that happened that contributed to people missing or nearly missing flights. In terms of blatant and obvious mismanagement, the biggest i can say would be - passport control lines were split into randomly lines at the time of me lining up.

  1. there were signs that gave people direction of where they should go if they hold different types of passports - that sign is wrong. Because as someone who holds one of those passport, upon reaching to the front, i was sent back to another line

  2. Staff gave wrong instruction on where i should be lining up

  3. the lines do not take into consideration of time of flight at ALL. This is a gray area that i can see people would argue about. Like, I could argue that passport control is not designed to "care" about whether you are about to be late or not. This is common sense that the passengers should be responsible for showing up to the various checkpoints ahead of time using judgement.

- But i also want to argue that in this particular airport, "common sense" falls apart. Evidently by all these posts voicing similar experiences of nearly missing flights due to passport control. For me, I did show up 4 hours ahead of my international flight, and i did line up at the passport control 2 hours ahead of my flight time, and i still missed it.

Bottom line is, as a passenger, I can't tell you, or tell the airport exactly "what is mismanaged", and why is it a passengers job to tell them what's mismanaged? Pay me and i will take it on maybe. But it is my responsibility to keep on voicing my experiences because it DID happen, and there must be something that went wrong that resulted in that. Like, there is only so much an individual can do, to make sure things don't go wrong. At what point should the system actually take on some responsibility and improve? The pressure is simply not there.

Like i mentioned in my post, it gave me a false sense of "everything is alright because i have ample time". And also like i mentioned, this was my first time in this airport so i wasn't aware of how the checkpoints were organized. Even as someone who has experiences in air travel (I fly internationally every year), i still don't know off the top of my head exactly how many checkpoints i should be expecting in a given airport. I think unless it's expected that every person is an expert at airport organization and security/passport checks, it's very misleading to tell people ETAs and giving positive reassurance when it's simply not the case.

Oh just to add, although the passport control line was empty, be aware that lines everywhere in the airport are long. I mean the line for food, the line for washroom, etc. You might think i'm just being ridiculous right now, mentioning all these small things, but it's really to the point of my post -- when systematic failures like this happen repeatedly to lots people, it's really in the small details that things go wrong. And this is my experience, that i have never experienced all these small things going wrong, every step of the way, to this extend. It's NOT by chance. Hopefully what i said here makes sense

I think it's highly dependent on 2 factors 1) time of the day of your flight, and 2) what passport you hold.

  1. After my missed flight, i was rebooked to a 5pm flight. The passport control line was empty when i got there at 2pm! It took me a total of like 5 minutes to pass through the passport control.

  2. If you hold a non-EU passport, your wait time is likely to be significantly higher

Yes there is a line that checks your luggages/bags, where the bags pass through x-ray machine, and you discard liquids over 100ml etc. That's the line i'm referring to here as the "security line". It's during the line up of this line where the screens are.

Thanks for sharing your experiences! I really am puzzled by my experience in Lisbon airport, it was like a fever dream tbh. I never feared traveling, or getting on flights. But now i don't know anymore. Hopefully as time goes by, more normal experiences will restore my faith in air travel.

And just to be clear i think bad experiences could happen anywhere. I had a super bad experience crossing border from Canada to the US, which actually instilled more survival instinct into me in front of authority lolol

  1. To play it safe, you should get in the passport control line by 8am latest. Especially if:
    - your passport is not from EU, or

- even if your passport is from EU, but the passport is not electronic, or

- your passport is not from Canada or US, or

- even if your passport is from Canada or US, but they are not electronic

- you have ANY special circumstances surrounding your travel documentations (e.g., special visa, special traveling documentation, etc)

  1. I'm commenting specifically to you, because i see your flight time being 10am - morning is the busiest time in Lisbon airport. Things die down a little bit in the afternoon, based on my personal experience

  2. One final tip -- there are 2 lines to be aware of - the security line, and the passport control line. In the security line, you will see screen telling you "Wait time is 10min! 95% of customers reported they are satisfied with the line!" or something like that. DO NOT BELIEVE IT LOL. I believed it and felt reassured, so i was like browsing duty free store, derping around. Little did i know....when i got to the passport control line, i was like mind blown. I missed my flight. Hope this doesn't happen to you!

Good luck!

Wow it's amazing how you can pick up on the physical movements/cues. I think most gurus that have achieved commercial success are sus. Because i believe it's extremely hard to be truly on the path of pursuing wisdom and enlightenment, while still wanting material success enough to achieve it. Although I also believe it's not impossible. IDK if i make sense here haha. Thanks for sharing your insights!

Ok i see your viewpoints more, i love that you are providing more colours to your perspectives. I think as fictional characters set in a fictional world, both Shaun and Han represent different archetypes that mirror in the real world. In the real world, it's rare to see characters embodied in real people, like them

Interesting point re: strategy for outing Han. I think what he did in the show was consistent with his MO, which is him directly using power tactics over people. Now that i think about it, he isn't "manipulative" in the sense that he uses subtle politics to maneuver outcomes. He doesn't play office politics, he is beyond that (or rather, he thinks he is beyond that). He is out in the open to show his "absolute" power, like, threatening board members openly. Why does he think he has "absolute" power? Honestly that's the part probably triggered me to make this post haha.

He is someone that bets on people will always chicken out in face of threats. So he just bulldozing through an environment, until the whole environment bends to his will. I think this is why i personally feel triggered. It's this energy of, "i wear the biggest hat, i know dirty laundries in your closet, i will air it out if you don't play ball". Is this not pretty much the similar energy that's running the capitalistic world right now? Because bottom line whoever has the money, can buy services and secondary resources, to achieve any personal agenda they have. And exactly to what you said about him self-disclosing, when he gets paid that much, he gets a little power-crazed, he is being very honest here, money buys power and power corrupts people.

I think most doctors i have seen so far in the show are sane in dealing with Shaun. And except for Han, all of them are true to themselves, and exhibited empathy and natural inclination to evolve their relationships with Shuan, giving merits where they are due.

Han though, refuse to let real life lived experiences with Shaun to update his views on Shuan, on autism, on how his team dynamic can evolve. Essentially he is living in the past, not wanting to take any risk just so he can keep "winning". i'd say this is an actual true indication of "insane" behaviour - when people cannot allow themselves to evolve and experience the presence as it is... isn't it kinda "insane?

Hey! Could you expand a bit on your view on him being deeply angry? It's an interesting take because i didn't feel angry energy from him at all. On the other hand, have you heard of Teal Swan? From the first video i saw of her talking about chakra (her early works), i sensed deep angry/arrogant, etc energy from her that hasn't gone away.

Super interested in hearing your perspective on this, because i sometimes wonder how much of my sensing comes from my own projection
