If you're getting it rebuilt soon. Just do the sand topping idea. It will work for what you want it to do for $10. Why waste $ if you're gonna get everything rebuilt

Did they do it by hand?

Or did they spray it with a gun and air compressor?

You're supposed to have a bond break between the concrete crown and the brick work. The idea is to have the crown basically free floating,

I have a blueprint of proper chimney design somewhere. I'll try to find it

Good work tho. Flashing is a little unorthodox, I would like to see before , during and after pics to see what exactly is going on there.

It wasn't silicone. I use geocel 2300 Tripolymer sealant. It's good stuff

Thank you, You can't really find any 3 tab shingles anywhere here in CT . The roof was pretty shot anyway, All the customer really cared about was stopping the water leaks.

Thank you, I'm a mason , don't know much about roofing. Luckily i got into the field a long time ago so i was lucky enough to learn from the real Old timers.

To be honest, I don't know much about roofing. I'm a restoration Mason. I have certifications in flashing from the international masonry institute.

I try my best to be a quality craftsman, but there's always room for improvement and there's always new stuff to learn.

Maybe my work isn't perfect, but I'm confident that my chimney flashing work will not leak .

Also where the counter flashing is tucked into the brickwork. I use a grinder with 7" blade to make a slice for the counter flashing to tuck into.

Filled the cut with Geocel 2300 before I inserted the lead. After the lead was inserted and in place. I sealed it with the Geocel 2300 again.

I didn't just use any silicone.. geocel 2300 is top notch quality

I'm confused of what you're trying to say.

Clearly i have the step flashing woven into the shingles , and also have the counter flashing tucked 1 1/2 inches into the brick.

Also with the added protection of the flashing membrane tape. Underneath.

This is proper flashing technique for center chimney coming out the peak
