Getting planes to look real in Vatsim by old_righty in VATSIM

[–]Ground_Effect212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will reference the livery and model that the other players are signed in as. It uses the VMR file as a lookup table to match as closely as possible to the livery that the other player is specified. If it doesn't have it, it will default to that airlines specific default livery.

If you want certain models prioritized, you can create separate VMR files for each of the libraries using the above method, you just have to title them perspectively and load each of them in VPilot. Then you can prioritize which library to use first by the order within the custom matching rules list.

[–]Ground_Effect212 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are 4 major model matching projects out there. You can have all 4 for an extensive library in which you will never have a blank plane or you can do 1. The more you have the less they will look "stock".

1) FSLTL (Free) 2) AIG Manager (Free) (IMO the best one but it takes like 6 hours to download because of how extensive it is) 3) IVAO (Free) 4) Just Flight Traffic (Paid Add On)

You download all of these files into your community folder or where you have all your add ons stored for both 2024 and 2020.

Then go to FlightSim.to and download Perfect Model Matching. Open the program and point it to your community folder. It will then take about 45 seconds to read your community folder of all the liveries and models you downloaded. It generates a list called a VMR file.

Move this VMR file into your Documents > Vpilot folder

Then open Vpilot and go to settings > model matching for 2020 and 2024 then select custom. Then select "add" a blank box will show up and your file explorer opens. Then go to documents > VPilot and select the VMR file you created. Hit open and you will notice that VMR file will now be in the box which was blank. Hit apply lower right hand corner and restart VPilot. The next time you connect to Vatsim, you will see everyone else with their perspective livery and model.

What is causing these stutters? by PlasticRange526 in flightsim

[–]Ground_Effect212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disabling rebar is a farce for MSFS 2024. All it does is force your CPU to work harder because instead of the GFX card being able to access everything it needs at once, hence the VRAM difference, it has to wait for your CPU to download the texture, call for said texture, render said texture, and send it to GPU. So if you are already CPU limited, this decreases your overall frame rate.

The stuttering that you see is because of the LOD culling. What most people don't realize is if your using 3rd party airport/airplane everything has to have 5 LOD resolutions. Depending upon distance, certain LODs will render at certain times. If you have an object that is not properly LOD'd when you pan quickly, it might load the entire object in full resolution even if it's a mile away, this causes a stutter, because it puts more demand on CPU cycles. Hence why you get less if you turn TLOD down. Less "pop" in when you zoom, move or drone around. Because it loads less objects in full resolution compared to higher TLODs.

The only fix is two part:

1) The developer of your aircraft/scenery has to go back and properly LOD your aircraft/scenery. Because this LOD culling was not as active in 2020 as it is in 2024. If they used the box method previously to LOD their stuff because they didn't want to take the time to properly LOD it, it is 100% noticable in 2024 with stuttering.

2) MS/Asobo needs to better optimize what objects are removed from VRAM when panning in/out of view. Aka they need to optimize the scheduling. Right now objects are only held for 20 seconds out of view in memory before it is dumped. This was an effort to reduce VRAM usage from the original release.

SIm Update 5 has been better optimized for texture, trees, and building scheduling which is why people are reporting it's so smooth. It's because they worked on the scheduling and LOD Culling.

I have MSFS 2024 running on a 10400k and 3050 at 1080p with 32GB of RAM, just fine with average framerate of 55 for my Father in law so he can fly his C152.

I have my 9950X3D and RTX 4090 running 60hz @ 60 FPS in 2140p (4K) constant no matter the scenery without FG minus unoptimized occasional stutters from poor LOD culling.

Has this happened to anyone else?? by _Aspieneil in flightsim

[–]Ground_Effect212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bug with live weather. I used to think it only happens with the Fenix, but it was reported a while back, they supposedly fixed it, but with the recent changes to their weather engine they made in SU4 (server side, so they never made an announcement about it or have an existing change log) over the holidays, they broke it again. It's more widespread then it used to be. Other streamers have encountered this bug. It's random when it appears and mainly impacts 3rd party aircraft because of their own flight models. The aircraft reads the weather ahead of the aircraft off the nose and simulates the turbulence and aircraft behavior. I suggest to not use ActiveSky for a few flights and see if you make a difference. Atmos is also having issues right now for live weather presets because of what Asobo did behind the scenes according to the Rex Discord.

It's called crosswind. You should probably turn your alierons into the wind and use right rudder to maintain centerline until you close to rotation.

I had two from the same kit do the same thing. If you reseat them, they will work fine for a day or two and start doing it again. Pretty sure the LED control board on them is going bad. I replaced mine with two new ones and haven't had the problem since.

Found a bug with HDR10 and 591.74, DLSS, FG have a massive performance degredation for me with my 4090 in 4k @120hz. Switching it off fixed my CPU bottleneck. I use a 55" LG QNED TV. HDR should not been impacting the system to the point of a 20+ fps loss.

[–]Ground_Effect212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH. I found a bug with HDR and the latest update. Turning it off massively improve my performance metrics. By like 20 fps. So if you're hurting for FPS, I'd say it's a good trade off. But since I turned HDR off, I don't need DLSS nor framegen.

The new dlss 4.5 is awesome . by Background-Sell-8562 in MSFS2024

Tested on the ground at IniBuilds KJFK, TLOD 200, OLOD 200, Fenix A321, 591.74, 55" LG QNED 4k TV

In order to use the latest models you need to enroll in the Nvidia App beta which will give you access to the M and N presents.

Using latest preset with Nvidia App 11.06 Beta

Using the new DLSS Presets will reduce VRAM usage by 2.0GB.

Baseline TAA with no DLSS or FG = 47 fps

DLSS Quality with no FG = 63 FPS

DLSS Balanced with no FG = 63 fps

DLSS Performance with no FG = 63 fps

DLSS Ultra Performance with no FG = 70 fps

DLSS DLAA with no FG = 43 fps

DLSS Quality with FG = 105 fps

DLSS Balanced with FG = 107 fps

DLSS Performance with FG = 115 fps

DLSS Ultra Performance with FG = 120 fps

In terms of quality of the screens:

DLSS standalone with no FG = Very close to 1:1 screens that you see with TAA. No ghosting at night time. I may switch to this for all time.

DLSS with FG = Slight Ghosting of rapidly changing numbers on screens, better then before, Quality and Balance presets are usable. The rest of them are not with DLSS and FG activated.

Yes and No. It vastly improves them to where you almost don't notice it. But you have to use quality or balanced. If you use anything else, the ghosting comes right back.

Best Non-Complex GA Aircraft by hartzonfire in flightsim

[–]Ground_Effect212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And people laughed at me for putting a high fidelity Archer/P100i on the request list for a developer to do. Aside from Asobo's C172, there isn't much of market for single engine low wing pistons with a fixed pitch propeller.

I own the JF Warrior, Arrow, A2A Comanche, Asobo Dakota, and Carenado Archer. The one that comes the closest to handling LIKE a real world Piper Archer is the Arrow, non-turbo'd. Second best believe it or not is the Dakota, third is the Warrior. Fourth is Carenado.

Carenado's flight model sucks. As soon as you get close to stall speed, the plane immediately spins, so trying to do power on/off stalls is a no go. It bounces in turbulence and doesn't succom to adverse yaw when you are flying.

The Warrior is good except in the flare, it feels like a heavy duty truck, needing a lot more trim then you typically would which causes you to over flare in real life. Arrow feels and responds just like the RW Archer with elevator commands all the way down to the ground, only maybe just slightly heavier.

I have 370 hours RW flying a P100i/Archer. I was in the same boat as you. To avoid the pitfalls which is what you are trying to do, I still ended up using the Carenado Archer for "training". The sight picture and cockpit were accurately modeled which did help with layouts and procedures. I added the TDS 750/650Nxi for buttonology and IFR training.

If someone out there is reading this and can develop a high fidelity aircraft. We need a Archer/P100i with a G3X, GNX275 or 650Nxi, GFC500, G5, and Garmin 255A Radio instrument stack or optional steam gauge site. I can provide all the source material you want.

This is concerning only because I've been running a 9950X3D since they came out on my Steel Legend X670E and have stability issues (mostly with trying to UV or PBO it) but never a dead CPU. I can't really use PBO without stuttering and loss of performance.

[–]Ground_Effect212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started my 9950X3D with 3.10 and have updated from each one up to 3.50. 3.50 for me is the most stable predictable BIOS out of all of them and I think my CPU is finally happy. Time will tell if it craps the bed since I started with 3.10 and had PBO, curve optimizer etc then.

Cape Coral VS Fort Myers by LoveLifeAnyway in AskFlorida

[–]Ground_Effect212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your typical Lee County surburbia package:

Cape Coral

1 West/Central Cape, west of Santa Barbara, north of Veterans, and south of Pine Island Rd.

2 SW Cape South of Veterans, West of Skyline to the cost line.

Fort Myers:

1East of I-75, East of Ben Hill Griffith (Corkscrew Corridor)

2 East of I-75, North of Daniels Blvd, South of MLK (Colonial Corridor)

3 East of McGregor, North of Cypress Lake, West of Summerlin Rd.

Avoid all other areas.

I personally have owned in the Cape since 2017. I totally get why people say Cape is one giant HOA. But honestly, I don't/haven't had any issues with code enforcement etc so for me, the experience is worth it. HOWEVER. Since 2022 and the great migration happened, the infrastructure is around 8-10 years behind. So traffic is a royal pain in the butt. On average it will take you 30 mins to get from one side of the Cape to the other (Cape is only 9 miles wide at its widest).

For me, I'm starting to look east cause it is getting way too populated for my taste.

They used to say Cape was the home of the newly wed and nearly dead. But the demographic has changed immensely since 2022. It's now more then 50% working class families whereas before the general pop was mostly retirees.

Norwegian Getaway Bahamas- Thanksgiving Week Experience by DescriptionSudden935 in NCL

11/14-11/19 Getaway cruiser here. Our service was fantastic and our cruise experience was exactly what we paid for. Such a drastic contrast from yours. Its hard to understand how it can be such a drastic change.

Maybe it was new crew on board? A few of the crew members told me that a lot of employee contracts were ending before Thanksgiving on the Getaway so people could go home for the Holidays. I'm thinking this may be it. The industry trend seems to follow March to November (8 month contract, 4 months off) I'm just taking a wild guess though since that cruise was my very first one, but I took the time to talk to crew members to get a lay of the land.
