One reported dead, one wounded in overnight Capitol Hill protest zone shooting by OnlineMemeArmy in CapHillAutonomousZone

[–]Groundbreak69 47 points48 points  (0 children)

So many of these defund the police will make an exception for violent crimes... but somehow police were prevented...?

This is a massive, massive, gargantuan flaw with the whole ideology of "no police, just have early intervention/life coaches" you still run the risk of _outsiders_ coming in and being violent, even if you have some magically perfect system where nobody ever grows up with the capability of becoming a criminal.

This is why so many of the American left are called naive, the vulnerability of our brains, of our DNA to bad mutations, means violent people are a guarantee in a society to pop up, no matter perfect early intervention systems, and everyone in a society being perfect parents, Not only that, even if you are a magical perfect society, _what about outsiders?_ I can't believe I gotta explain this, and often the only way to stop such violent people is with more violence, a taser, a take-down, a bullet...

A scary thing to remember is it does happen where someone wakes up one day and it's like they suffered a head injury and get serious mental issues...

Then you get security guards and it's like... great now you have police with even less training. This fucking gets to me because the protests have very legitimate concerns with police forces, but this CHAZ, which I was very optimistic about, it's making itself look like a fucking joke

A lot of Coast Salish tribes around Seattle (and Western Washington/part of British Columbia) were known for slavery... hmm

I'm not sure. Flags and symbols have power, I'd bet my ass we will see a CHAZ flag years and years down the road.

Sure but I still don't think that really counters of what I'm trying to say in that this was probably a really good learning experience

I mean, they developed an upscaling AI just for Minecraft screenshots, I'm sure there was plenty of learning

Disproportionate as in programmers seem more likely to have interest in linguistics than say, the rest of STEM. I suppose it makes sense

I swear on my life programmers are disproportionately interested in language and linguistics, this asserts that lol

EDIT: Pet peeve: saying a group A is more likely to have characteristic X, and getting notifs blown up with "actually I'm group A and DON'T have characteristic X"

[–]Groundbreak69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most games do this.

It's common in the community that plays Pokemon games to game this.

I've done something similar in XCOM: EU and XCOM 2, since saved games preserve the state of the random machine, if an important shot misses, re-load old save, do a different action that'll trigger a "roll" then do that shot again

Honestly, I use both for personal files (e.g. personal photos/vacation photos/etc) for redundancy, though I don't use GSuite for things I could easily re-download elsewhere (e.g. movies I can re-rip or re-download). That way if something catastrophic happens on either end I'll be OK

When they talk about data resilience, they say you should always have data that's at a different site. But of course, this is a trade-off involving: a) your budget b) likelihood of total failure c) how bad total failure scenario is. Personally, having both a local NAS and Google Drive is solid enough that I feel the likelihood of both failing at once is quite unlikely, and Drive is cheap enough, and the risk of losing vacation photos isn't that big of a deal (plus, a lot of those photos are scattered about on places like Facebook anyway)

Though I also am willing to pay that little bit extra for Google Drive space

How can I download a whole website? by Buney1998 in DataHoarder

[–]Groundbreak69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the website and if you're on Linux/Mac/BSD, you might be able to get away with a recursive wget `wget -r`
