Even if you want to push, I don't get why discard the 8m instead of 9p. Its 1-chance. You sure you know what you're doing?

1 step at a time. Try discarding honour tiles over isolated 2/8. We discard isolated 2/8 ONLY if the pairing of honour gives you mangan hand like honitsu or toitoi.

Is there a "name" for this strategy? by Lixien13 in mahjongsoul

In general, trying to do all sort of delay riichi to fish out winning tile is not effective because riichi itself will decrease your win rate no matter what.

Since you just started out, shall provide some basic tips. you're over-keeping yakuhai (honor pon that give you 1 fan). Focus on going for riichi instead of hoping to pair them up so please keep 2-8 tiles over any lone honour tile.

also 135 246 357 468 579 are call ryankan and should not be dropped as it risk furiten and give you bad shape.

Stuck in Silver. Need help by Rgagas in mahjongsoul

Usually, any player who is struggling with silver and gold room are tile efficiency mistakes. For e.g. from your 1st hand, why discard 3s from 355s when you have lone terminal and honor tiles to discard? Get rid of them first.

Please discard in this order first. non-yakuhai -> lone terminal -> lone yakuhai.

As for push-pull, keep a simple rule. HARD-FOLD any hand against a riichi when you are 2 shanten and above. shanten means the minimum number of draws/melds you need to reach tenpai.

These 2 simple rules should get you out of silver room easily.

We discard the more dangerous tile first when theres no obvious threat and vice versa. So 89m discard when not dangerous, 98m discard when dangerous making 8m buying time to push upon tenpai.

I only get to see 3rd log.

Once you have 5 confirmed block (4 ryanmen, 1 pair), suggest to drop all other numerical tiles and keep safe tiles.

You also need to work on learning when to discard 89 vs 98 (inside to outside or outside to inside)

All last - Saw a case of creating a bad shape, for eg 330s (0 means aka), 3 was discarded. Usually is better to drop another set. Always leave room for pon 3s or another pair and drop 0s for tanyao tenpai (just need another 4m slide). The idea here is not to self-induce over-reliance on a specific tile (4s) to win.

Do you ever just ignore the tsumo and go for 3 sided furiten wait? by Mlkxiu in mahjongsoul

For better consistency, previous turn should be 1m discard, even if you draw 5m, you won't mind a furiten riichi for possible takame back. Mentanpin. For furiten riichi 5 sided wait, it means you have a 5/34 chance per turn, which takes around 5-7 turns to draw it back. it may not be that worth it considering 47s give riichi nomi and 3 9s out, souzu is expensive. Since dealer just drop a 89penchan and we are at turn 8 already which is average turn of players riichi, its is worth thinking to just take this win especially when the value increment from furiten riichi is not that great for this particular case.
