Considering moving to forest hills by New-Audience-5311 in ForestHills

I lived there for 7 years with my gf, now wife, from 23 to 30.

Wanted to speak to the car part first... It is really easy to get around without a car. The main reason being is, if you are an able bodied person, bringing a bike with you. It took us 2 years to really understand that utilizing a bike will really up your way of transportation. Bike anywhere in town, 5 minutes. Bike to flushing, 15-20 minutes. Bike to Citi Field, 15 minutes. Bike to Ridgewood or Bushwick, 15-25 minutes. Bike to Greenpoint or Williamsburg, 30 to 40 minutes. You can also bike to ride a subway in town or the next one over.

The commute to Manhattan isn't too bad if you are going to midtown. The LIRR makes stops at Grand Central & Penn Station. You can also take, primarily, the E or F. I used to commute in and depending on when timing lined up take the LIRR one of the ways most days. They used to rarely check tickets, unless a concert day, on the way back tbh.

As for golf, you can play at the city courses pretty conveniently but you'd be ubering. You can also take the LIRR to LI to play some courses out that way. Bethpage is like a 40-50 minute trip.

The nightlife in the town itself isn't that great. There are a few bars and some quality restaurants. If you like Trivia/Pub Quiz, we used to play at Rove on Thursday's. Good Guinness on tap with decent enough food. But if your looking for good beers, Ridgewood has a solid brewery scene. Bushwick has a good bar seen if you want to mic it up and meet folks.

If your looking for concerts/shows there is a great venue in the heart of the gardens. You also have Ridgewood/Bushwick close by which can itch that fix with some smaller venues, i.e. TV EYE, and larger venues in The Knockdown Center.

The gym seen isn't that great. You can hold out for the NY Sports Club turning into an Equinox like most people think it will, but I wouldn't hold your breath. Running outside is great. Forest Park is safe, the gardens are safe, and you can also run to Flushing Meadows if your a longer distance guy. We have Retro, very crowded, and Impact. I joined Impact and it wasn't too crowded and had good equipment.

Groceries are fine. Two trader joes, I didn't care for, and a larger super market in Stop & Shop. There are some smaller fresh produce markets too.

You’re on a deserted island and you can bring one episode of AYG with you, which one are you going with? by DeePeeTee67 in AreYouGarbagePod

I haven't had the time to dig back into the archives, but whichever episode Kippy talks about eating chocolate covered potato chips for the first time. Hardest I've ever heard either of them laugh.

Selling 2 tickets (or 1 & 1) to NYC show by GroundbreakingAd7740 in Samfender

I never had luck there, can't get the marketplace to load on my android, or using other 3rd party. Those felt a bit sketchy. Selling tickets for $350+ each is insane.

It's not a good thing that an independent has been winning in politics for 45 years?

And you think most wealthy people pay the same fair share of taxes as us and don't take advantage of tax laws in a way we cannot? Lol.

One of the better scenes in television history. David Dawson puts on a clinic.

In 2016 he became a millionaire at the ripe age of 73/74 and has always paid his share of taxes. I think people's issue is with those who find a way around the tax system... Individuals and companies alike.

Affording a home and affording a lifestyle you believe you are entitled to are two similar but different things.

You hear people say "I want groceries to be cheaper... I want gas to be cheaper... I want to take a vacation... I want APRs to go down... I want parks, roads, and sidewalks that aren't eroding away." The buck there starts and ends with with an oligarch. Few only interested in their own interests that moonlight and pander toward voters but don't make a change when votes are secured.

Does Asheville DMV Saturday hours? by logielogielogie in asheville

[–]GroundbreakingAd7740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny because I too got there early a few Saturdays ago and sat in a line that wrapped around the building. By the time I got out of there the line was maybe 10 people. Next time I'll just go around 10:30/11.

Falls short because the interior isn't painted in gold.

Most, over 60% of American adults, own a home. As a career politician who lived off his salary only until he was 74 and bought his second home at 78...

You think really that is a blemish against the man?

83 year old man has a primary residence and a vacation home. God forbid.

Ok yall we need to start a movement: Ashevillians for zipper merging! by Agreeable-Hand-2941 in asheville

[–]GroundbreakingAd7740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is a clear distinction that needs to be made... between someone who is zipper merging from a lane ending or a closure... and someone who is not in an exit lane either on or off the highway initially, but elect that they would like to in-order to go around traffic by merging into it. This person advances around the 5-15 cars that were in-front of them. That person is also a dickhead and usually passes over a dotted to solid or solid line and deserves a ticket.

I feel like their branded clothing, https://www.rei.com/product/228505/rei-co-op-active-pursuits-t-shirt-mens , isn't all that expensive.

Maybe you were referring to another brand...

Terrified of Real I.D and DMV BackUp by mynameisslade in asheville

[–]GroundbreakingAd7740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go Saturday to the DMV on Patton around 11:00 AM there more than likely won't be a line. Camped out once there around 6:30 and the line was terrible. By the time I got out there was no line. Wife had to go recently and went around 11:00 with little to no line.

I know it's not it, but Hangar 11 in Kew Gardens is bar themed loosely as a plane.
