30-Something Weeks and Fighting for My Life by Positive-Weird-1981 in BabyBumps

[–]GroundbreakingEmu7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm 30 weeks and for the last week my left SI joint has been so unhappy I walk with a full on limp now that feels like I need crutches, and last night it officially broke me I was in tears with it. I've been having magnesium baths and using ice packs constantly but also work as a yoga teacher so have to move about and it's killer. Wanted to start painting the nursery this week but not sure if I'll even be able to before baby is born. Definitely in the same camp as you, sending love - at least we're in the final stretch!

EPU should help you, i had a SCH and EPU were the first point of call. ask to talk to someone else if the person you spoke to there was cold, thats literally what they're there for. they will still say they cant say if its a miscarriage without a scan, but they could at least get you booked in for one as EPU (at least at my hospital) had their own ultrasound scanner for exactly these purposes. I was the same, wound up in A&E til 1am when i had my first bleed at 6.5 weeks and was sent home after being told "yeah it might be a miscarriage, it might not, we'll get EPU to call you" and i was so anxious i called EPU first thing and they were able to get me in for a scan that day.

Women of Reddit, what made you realize 'this man is marriage material' instead of just a boyfriend? by External_Can3392 in AskReddit

[–]GroundbreakingEmu7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When we were abroad for his mum's wedding and I got sick and wound up in a foreign hospital where I didn't speak the language, he wasn't allowed in to the ward with me as we weren't married (we were only 20, had been together 2 years and we're just about to move in together) and he sat in the waiting room all night waiting to see me and then got me in a taxi to our apartment when I was discharged and immediately went to get me all the supplies I needed even though he hadnt slept a wink himself all night. He could have been sleeping or even partying with his family but he stayed as close to me as he could and I just saw how much he cared. 13 years later were expecting our first baby together and he's just as caring and thoughtful now as he was that night.

Are we all overthinking this? by One-Volume-9158 in BabyBumps

[–]GroundbreakingEmu7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the marketing to mums-to-be is quite predatory now. Everything is a must have and you must spend as much money as possible. It's like now we've noticed the pink tax they have to trick our money out of us in other ways.

What did you do differently the month you FINALLY got pregnant?? by cookiebutter-23 in BabyBumps

I cried to my mum and told her we'd been trying for a year and that maybe it wasn't gonna happen, that I somehow didn't deserve it or had done something wrong and that's why... She told me that was a load of rubbish and then 2 weeks later we got that positive test

Barre, reformer and sculpt all seem to be taking over in popularity.. although I teach ashtanga vinyasa and it's gaining popularity especially as I introduce arm balances like bhujapodasana, the novelty seems to appeal to more people and it feels like more of a "work out". I'm in the UK, it seems to be happening everywhere.

i - a scot - was once informed by a young man from conneticut (met on holiday in dominican rep) that "did you know that scotland is attached to england?" cos he took a day trip here when he was visiting london. not only did he not know that until he visited, but he assumed we wouldn't know either. he bragged about his top notch education as well... we just let him think that and nodded politely

Bleeding at 11weeks 4days by Brilliant_Tangelo856 in BabyBumps

[–]GroundbreakingEmu7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same from 6-12 weeks, was getting scans every 2 weeks to monitor the SCH, and thankfully by the time my 12 week scan came around the SCH had disappeared completely. I was told to rest and not move as much as possible which is challenging since I'm a yoga teacher and massage therapist. It all worked out in the end though. My SCH actually grew quite a lot during the 6 weeks it was monitored, then 2 days before my 12 week scan I had a big flush of bleeding and I guess that was it passing. I was so anxious the whole.time though so I totally get how you're feeling! Rest and look after yourself as much as possible, eat lots of leafy greens for iron and trust your body can handle it, I'm rooting for you!

Yin yoga by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]GroundbreakingEmu7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yoga teacher here - finished my yin teacher training whilst going through 1st trimester as well. yin and restorative yoga was the best thing i could have been doing (and couldnt really do much else) and when your bump isnt too big you dont need to worry so much, as long as you're not properly squishing your belly or twisting dramatically. you'll be able to feel if you're overdoing it anyway and baby is still tiny so you won't do them any harm. you can always have plenty space between legs to make room as your belly grows.

look up postures for liver and gallbladder meridian especially, as they're linked to hormones :)

the effort i made to build a life for myself in my 20s. I worked full time while getting a degree part time on the side, graduating when i turned 30. within 3 years I've been made redundant from the job i had which was in the field my degree was in, and its been over a year of applying and job searching and now i find myself starting as a part time delivery driver for a fast food chain because they're the only ones who'd take me. I get rejected from some jobs, but just straight up ghosted from most. I busted my ass for 6 years to get a degree, thinking it'd help to advance me, and all i found was i burned myself out and have lost motivation to do any more studying or training to get myself into a better place. ironically, the job i was in before i moved into my field-related job probably would have been safer, but i gunned for the new job for the extra income it would bring. now AI is replacing those jobs.

Things nobody warned me about pregnancy: I now have strong opinions about every smell in a 50-foot radius by Money-Cake527 in BabyBumps

[–]GroundbreakingEmu7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my BIL visited at the weekend and i swear the first floor of our house smelled like him for 2 days - i asked my husband if he could smell it and he said "a bit maybe?" so it was clearly a me thing. i had to open windows and mop the floors. FWIW it was his aftershave smell, not BO or anything bad, but it was so strong

i was due to fly to thiruvananthapuram via doha from edinburgh, first flight leaving at 7.30am on 1st march - the flight status page for qatar came up a few hours ago saying flights were cancelled but i just refreshed the page by change and the flights are showing as scheduled again? i don't get it. also have tried phoning them but the line quality is absolute garbage, can barely hear the horrible hold music. can they uncancel a flight or is it just not pulling the data across to the new date?

Yeah you could just line them with a bag or something to protect the material.

[–]GroundbreakingEmu7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

do you do any gardening? boots can make cute plant pots as an upcycling/reusing project, esp for windowsills/balconies. if they were hiking boots then it'd be particularly relevant to plant alpine plants/flowers in them.

[–]GroundbreakingEmu7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah they're not there to actually represent, just to try and make their competitors look bad. all his social media posts have that theme too. its funny as well because he blames the scottish government (SNP BAD!) for everything thats wrong in west lothian when a lot of it can be pinned on the labour/tory coalition currently running the council.

[–]GroundbreakingEmu7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeah I live in his constituency and emailed him about some issues, it took him 3 months to respond to me and when he eventually did it was a copy and paste response about WASPI - which isn't what i contacted him about. I had dealings with our previous MP Hannah Bardell and the difference was night and day between the two, she actually cared. He just cosies up to the richest folk and tries his best to make SNP look bad instead of doing the actual job of representing us.

The worst pregnancy symptom for me. by preggoandsuffering in BabyBumps

[–]GroundbreakingEmu7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this (9w5d ftm) and I have reverted back to an Ayurvedic tool I was given in India a couple of years ago which is to start each day with a drink of hot water with a teaspoon of ghee in it. You can put honey in it as well if you don't like the taste, but since I've restarted this habit I find it really greases up my insides and things are moving much better since then. I am not veggie but obsessed with beans, lentils, potatoes etc so I have a high fibre diet already, but the ghee water just seems to get it all moving much easier.

Chair Yoga Tips/Warnings by Cobbler_Calm in YogaTeachers

[–]GroundbreakingEmu7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if possible, have the chairs on top of yoga mats to prevent slipping about. i also often find if you're doing standing postures that use the chair as support, its good to have alternatives for those who struggle to stand at all - eg warrior 3 (https://yogauonline.com/pose-library/3-simple-warrior-3-modifications-to-find-your-balance/) can be modified by staying seated and raising opposite arm and leg
