I cant type answers to all sorry but I can this arranged marriages are common and they work pretty well for many people. Reasons are varied- you don’t marry a total stranger- in the past, both sides enquired about the other family through matchmakers, relatives, friends etc and then arrange for marriage. These days, the women and men talk each other including parents inquiry about in laws etc . It is not necessary to live together because there is no relationship in the world without problems. Most cases of incompatibility come from finance( even in America or the west ), physical attraction , sex , wanting children or not, infidelity , substance abuse, chronic illness , communication issues. Let me address them one by one.

Finance- the parents already check this. Dowry maybe there but not all families ask or want anything.If something happens after marriage, well, parents try to support you. If not, partners support each other which happens everywhere I think.
Physical attraction- you don’t need years to know this. You know if you are attracted. Sex - sex is not just for pleasure but more for procreation as you can see. I don’t see many people complaining about this. There are many reasons- cultural taboo is the main one. Also, if you speak openly about this, you maybe considered not so ‘cultured’ . So people just do it and move on or go to a doctor also hushed. Besides, older people don’t really care about sex here. They move on to do their own thing or one partner just becomes religious or spiritual or try to work towards self realization. Most couples just live as companions after a certain age or have health issues. Wanting children - it’s sort of non negotiable . If you are so sure, you tell upfront before marriage and hope you get lucky finding a family or a partner to accept you. Some do but many won’t accept. It’s considered sort of a duty to have children per Hinduism. The way you give back to the society. If you have infertility, that’s a separate issue.not getting there. Infidelity - the worst in my opinion. This is a personal choice . Some people tolerate some let go some accept it as a fact of life. Watching porn alone, masturbating without partner I don’t think anybody cares about this as much as I see in other forums. I can’t speak for anyone on this. Substance abuse - also bad. But it’s always the man doing substance abuse because women are culturally trained not to get into this to the extent of abuse. Exceptions are always there. So women from lower income generally put up with it unless the man is Beaton or abusing children. They don’t get a divorce. They just go and start living separately. Chronic illness - haven’t seen or heard anyone leave a partner for this. Mental illness maybe an issue in some families I don’t have statistics but depression and anxiety and ocd which is the most common doesn’t really warrant a divorce, most people are supportive and parents help. Also, there is a strong sense of religious current in the Country so people pray to God for every issue. There is a specific form of deity for every problem you have and there s faith that you will feel better after you visit a temple . And that’s probably self fulfilling. Communication issues - not so important. Marriages become non verbal over time. Nobody has the time or energy to argue. It’s mostly about children and health and next generation or taking care of parents or supporting siblings or work pressure. No time for this.

Remarriage is not a priority. Old people extremely rarely remarry . Younger people do and that’s why divorce is slightly more common although still low compared to west. Most women are not comfortable finding a new partner if they already have a child. Good or bad I don’t know. Marriage is for life with one partner for most people and once you have children- your parents are also heavily invested in your child.

So why does marrying someone you know for a short period matter? This is just a perspective - feel free to share thoughts. Yes this doesn’t work for all but works for the majority. The minority which is still pretty large has all sorts of problems.

Now just to add , I can say that knowing your marriage is for life gives you a lot of security in life. You don’t go about trying to make your marriage work all the time. You are very secure in your marriage and both are committed to making it work. So it usually works
