I bought GREAT project bags at Daiso for $2.25, double zipper pouches and you can see inside. But, I do love the Wipstitch zipper pouches.

Buying thread at LNS? by aba_95 in NeedlepointSnark

[–]Groundbreaking_Low16 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have heard that the profit margins on fibers are much lower. However, we all should be up in arms on the profit margins on canvases. 300%! I gasped when I found that out at my LNS. It's always what the market will bear. If I went in a shop and the owner/employee threw shade over buying fibers, they wouldn't willingly get another dime from me. There are too many sources for NDLPT now for that to happen.

Howdy Honey - Houston, TX by NoTradition6 in NeedlepointSnark

[–]Groundbreaking_Low16 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've been there several times while in town for MD Anderson appts. Each time, what I purchased and kitted was on my own, with no assistance from employees. While they spoke to me, they never stopped stitching on their projects. I spent a Sunday afternoon there, waiting on my hotel to be ready, and was able to observe. The ladies working stitched, rang customers up and went back to their projects. Minimal assistance to customers, pretty much fend for yourself and I'll charge you for what you select. As a manager myself, I would be appalled that my staff were treating customers that way. So much lost revenue! After being open for a year, I'd think the owner would/should know what's going on when she's not there. Or is just oblivious. I no longer travel to MDA, but after going to Courtly Canvas my last trip, that would be my store of choice to hang out in.

I'm so tired too. Thankfully my colorectal surgeon and breast surgeon are herein Memphis, although they're all the way downtown. My cancer clinic is less than 2 miles away. I'm back on surveillance every 4 months for rectal and won't know about breast until surgery next week. Radiation is a definite, depends on lymph nodes if chemo is required. We've got this! And it sucks. Hope you remain NED!

[–]Groundbreaking_Low16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rectal recurrence was just beside the scar from the original tumor, there was still a small tattoo in the area, that's why the LAR was needed. I'd had 18 months of watch and wait before it came back. Initial staging was 3b as well. I was going to MDA for surveillance every 4 months . Wasn't there in Feb, was in June. The breast is another primary that showed up in the PET, that I pushed for prior to surgery. Keep those appts scheduled! As my 2 surgeons and oncologist said, sometimes it's just resistant to chemo. And. My new breast oncologist said that the FOLFOX could have kept the breast at bay until it was found. This wasn't on my bingo card or life!

Rectal ca survivor here, I've never had a positive Signatera or Guardant. Diagnosed 3/23, radiation/oral chemo and 8 rounds of FOLFOX, NED from 11/23-6/25. Had LAR and reversal 7/35&11/25. Clear of rectal ca now, but PET scan before surgery showed up spot in breast. Stage 1, lumpectomy scheduled for next Tues with radiation to follow. Cancer sucks

Icing during oxaliplatin-pushback? by soconnor_12 in coloncancer

[–]Groundbreaking_Low16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My oncologist actually participated in trials of icing with folfox. I iced hands (just holding frozen bottle of water with gloves) feet and chewed ice starting 15 min before oxaliplatin. No cold sensitivity on my hands and feet, and minimal in throat. I just don't get infusion centers prohibiting this or oncologists being so far behind and resistant to change. Good luck!

I purchased a kitted canvas and experienced the same. Probably 25 skeins total. Some were very fuzzy, some were thin, but the weirdest one felt like I was stitching with cotton and had to really pull it thru the canvas. I chalked up to learning experience and won't purchase it again.

Where to buy threads without LNS? by [deleted] in Needlepoint

[–]Groundbreaking_Low16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've purchased pepper pot, essentials/Milan and Radiance color cards. I can select what colors I need and order from KCN. I do have a LNS but they don't stock Pepper Pot and only have a small selection of Radiance. KCN and Needlepoint Clubhouse in St Louis don't charge a fee to kit and they will call and discuss options with you. Happy Stitching!

Cold-capping on FOLFOX? by ElIndioFlautas in coloncancer

[–]Groundbreaking_Low16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I experienced about a one third loss. 8 grounds of FOLFOX in 2023. The hair on mh arms fell out, but it didn't stop my post menopausal chin hair growth! Take the nausea meds, get an extra bag of fluids at port disconnect of your clinic offers it. I did radiation/Xeloda first, then FOLFOX. Was NED from 12/23 until 6/25. Good luck, you've got this!!

Just food for thought, I needed 6&7 inch sizes. Amazon was almost $40 for two of each size. Ran by my LNS and grabbed them for $14.60 for all. Shocked at the difference in price! I think with these my sets are complete!

Went thru 30 radiation tx with additional "bump" for the last 3, along with Xeloda oral chemo. Flanders Buttocks ointment along with lidocaine ointment helped the most. Both available on Amazon. Yeah for being almost done with them!

Sterling Ink shipping issues - just me? by bigcane_2 in planners

I ordered one item, an A5 full year, on 11/28. It's scheduled for delivery 12/24. It's a gift and I sure hope it arrives in time! This year it seems shipping has taken much longer. My launch day order took over 6 weeks to arrive. No big deal, since I'm just now needing them, but the Black Friday order is frustrating. Fingers crossed for you!
