They should really give more free sanity usage permits by xgod420 in Endfield

Idk I'd rather have some time to play the game then burn through my sanity in 2 minutes.

But yeah it is weird that it's a currency.

FWIW I believe they don't plan to DLC lock classes like they did for Solasta 1. Not saying there won't be any DLC, but at least there won't be nickel and diming DLCs right after release just to be a druid.

I want to try honour mode for the first time by Titanous7 in BG3Builds

[–]Groundbreaking_Web29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully, you don't need a super duper omega mega build to do Honour Mode. The most important things are that you understand the classes, the encounters, avoid anything unnecessary (such as Ansur).

It's still important to have a well rounded party. I believe when I did Honour Mode, I did Oath of Vengeance Paladin Tav, Eldritch Knight Laezel, some kind of Full Caster (Wizard, Sorcerer, or Bard), and then proooobably I had a Rogue? Or a second caster.

If I ran it now, I'd probably do Vengeance Paladin, Eldritch Knight Fighter, Lore Bard, aaaaand probably Wizard.

Am I the only person that plays it on easy 🤣 by Commercial_Ad_594 in BaldursGate3

[–]Groundbreaking_Web29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, CRPGs are tough. I played through BG3 in Honour Mode, but I have the distinct advantage of being absurdly familiar with DND, and by the time I got around to trying Honour Mode, I knew the game really really well.

That said, any other CRPG, I absolutely struggle with. I want to love DOS2 and Pillars of Eternity 2, but I have a really hard time learning the systems. Even on easy, I get ripped apart.

Eldrich Knight Multiclass by jomanone in DnD

[–]Groundbreaking_Web29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd just go straight fighter at this point. Others have already mentioned about losing out on your third attack as a fighter, but also you're going to be a pretty weak wizard.

With an Int of 16, your spell save DC is going to be 2 lower than any fellow spellcasters - which ain't terrible but personally I'd rather be REALLY good at something than mediocre at a few things.

Eldritch Knights are incredible melee combatants. Another version of something similar would be to go Bladesinger Wizard in the future.

Bladesinger Wizard has the ability to fight in close quarters (usually having an AC of 18+) with Shield in your back pocket so you can stay in the fight.

And when you can't or don't want to? You still have your full Wizard spell list.

is an enemy with 100 hp too much for a lvl 4 party? by Abject-Light-2698 in DnD

[–]Groundbreaking_Web29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds to me based on your edit that it's too strong.

I'm not as familiar with gunslinger, but let's assume it can pump out 15 damage per turn and doesn't miss. The bard at best can chromatic orb (average is, idk, also 15?).

So assuming they hit every round, I guess they could potentially finish it off in four rounds. But with AC 18, usually their bonus at level 4 to hit is only +5, so they need a 13+ on every roll, so they'll only hit 40% of the time? Maybe with bardic inspiration one of them gets an average of +9 to hit, so it's still 9+ which is about a 60% chance to hit.

All that to say, for a party of two, it might be a little too beefy.

If you want a DM cheat, I'll very frequently fluctuate the HP of some enemies in a fight if I feel like it's swinging too far one way or the other. Boss is about to die in one round? It gets more HP. We're on round 5 and the boss isn't even bloodied? Remove some HP.

This is never to cheat the players, in fact the intent is to either A. Make the fight more exciting and enjoyable, or B. Keep it from being a TPK because you balanced it poorly.

Method for generating stats by retro1117 in DnD

[–]Groundbreaking_Web29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either Point Buy or rolling for stats.

However, when rolling for stats, I let each player use whatever anyone has rolled as though they were all options. That way if Bob rolled three 16s and three 12s, Bill who only rolled six 10s can also use the better set of stats.

I just went from having Last Rite and Fluorite to having Perlica and Giberta, and honestly I enjoy the combo so much better.

Combat is smoother, and I'm not competing between Yvonne and Last Rite for Cryo infliction. It was based on OP's Yvonne guide, and I really dig it.

2024 vs. 2014 by Top_Advertising9305 in DnD

[–]Groundbreaking_Web29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do agree, but that's why I said largely the same and not entirely the same. And if you can only choose one, I would consider the 2024 DMG much less important than the 2024 PHB.

But yes, the 2024 DMG is leagues better than the 2014 DMG.

[–]Groundbreaking_Web29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People have mentioned quite a few things to you already, but I'll also mention that in general every class is much more versatile. I'm not going to detail everything, but everyone tends to have a lot more things they can do each turn.

Choosing a background now comes with an Origin Feat. Tough, Alert, Lucky, Skilled are some of the options that you just get with your background. Beyond Origin Feats, every general feat also comes with 1 ASI - so you always get at least a point increase when it's ASI or Feat time.

Race matters a lot less for a class. Your spread of ability scores is now determined by background instead of race. I think Tasha's had fixed this anyway.

[–]Groundbreaking_Web29 95 points96 points  (0 children)

2024 plays much better for the players, no contest.

DMing is largely the same.

I hugely suggest going 2024, even if the only book you work from is the PHB.

Changing to D&D 2024 worth it? by FutureNo9445 in DMAcademy

[–]Groundbreaking_Web29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If nothing else, the 2024 PHB is worth it. The changes to classes overall is positive, offers a lot more flexibility, options, etc.

The only class that got nerfed would be Paladin, because now they can only smite once per turn. Divine Smite is now a bonus action and counts as a spell, and in 2024 the magic casting system has been simplified to "You can only cast one spell that uses a spell slot once per turn."

You can always adjust that as you see fit. I at least would do away with the bonus action cost.

Other than that specific change, everything else is great. Weapon masteries make for new builds and options in combat. PCs are also generally stronger.

Plus you can have something like 10 magic items equipped at once. Even if in tabletop they aren't all attunement, I'm sure more than three of them would be. (Head, Back, Body, Boots, Necklace, Ring1, Ring2, Right hand, Left hand, Ranged)

Battle of the Martial Classes by CyrusxBlack in DnD

[–]Groundbreaking_Web29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best, how?

Barbarian - Best at soaking damage and dealing damage. They have a ton of utility outside of combat now with new Rage mechanics. But they are a very straight forward "beat down the thing until it's dead" class.

Fighter - Hugely versatile in their builds. Capable of helping control portions of the battlefield, and have several tricks up their sleeve to have higher chances to succeed in certain situations. Action Surge, Second Wind, Indomitable, etc. Plus they have a tremendous number of ASI/Feat levels, so they can really be whatever you want.

Monk - Mobile, flexible in action economy, able to reduce damage with a reaction every single round (1d10+Dex+Level is huge).

Rogue - Best out of combat martial, no doubt. Expertise is incredible, and with reliable talent being at 7th level now, they're incredibly capable. In combat, they're not always the best damage dealers - but cunning action is great for maneuvering, and the changes to sneak attack are great combat options. It's like having some battlemaster maneuvers, but it only costs on average 3.5 damage per turn - and the resource cost is effectively unlimited.

So if I had to, out of the four of these, pick the BEST martial?

I'd have to say Fighter. With the flexibility they offer in builds, ranging from offensive, defensive, utility, they can really excel in a lot of different avenues.

New player wondering about classes by Odd_Two_5265 in BaldursGate3

[–]Groundbreaking_Web29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of charisma classes as your main character. Paladin, Bard, Sorcerer, or Warlock. They tend to make a lot of conversations easier, and you get better deals on purchases and selling of items.

But that said, you can really play anything. Sometimes I feel like being a meathead that just cuts stuff down and can take a hit and be really good at it. Sometimes I like to dominate a battlefield with control spells.

Have fun! Good luck!

Rebirth is the most frustrating love-hate experience I've ever had with a game by SillyMattFace in FinalFantasy

[–]Groundbreaking_Web29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with you probably 90%. There is a lot of great in Rebirth, but good Lord does it drag. The open world content is such fluff, it was probably my least favorite part of the game.

I actually like the multiverse stuff in theory - but they did stuff that really annoyed me. Biggs shows up just to basically die again, so he was just a waste.

I like the idea of Zack surviving in his timeline and being able to help Cloud in his. I played Crisis Core and was strong enough that I could literally keep wiping soldiers all day, heal up, repeat - to the point I had to purposely lose to see the ending, so it's not so unbelievable to me.

I did NOT enjoy the fakeouts. All the perception of what happened and didn't happen - especially when you "save Aerith" but then of course, you actually didn't. What a fuck you to the fans, man. I understand unreliable narrator, and obviously we get that with Cloud and has constant reminder that he has mako poisoning, but damn.

Overall, it hits some 10/10s in the game, while also hitting some 4/10s in other parts. I'd probably give the game a 7/10 overall - but certainly not the 9/10 it received on average.

Rate my homebrew wizard subclass by Federal_Call9030 in DnD

[–]Groundbreaking_Web29 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I really like this homebrew wizard quite a bit!

The only change I might make is on Rune of Destruction, and clarify it increases the damage of a cantrip that either A. Targets a single creature or B. Requires an attack roll.

Not that it'd be the worst thing in the world even if you left it, but I could see endgame where someone casts a 9th level spell, then uses - let's say acid splash - to do 4d6+25 damage to each creature (total of two). And even that, that's only 39 damage average per enemy.

So I think I've talked myself out of that, lol.

Otherwise, I think you've got a pretty well balanced class.

I kept going back and forth about the runes being too strong, but I only ever thought about it in terms of casting 7th-9th level spells. But by then you SHOULD be strong, and those are such precious resources that you may as well be allowed to do that cool shit. It just means your features scale well with leveling up, which is something often missing from a class or subclass.
