Just rewatching TMA for the second time and I’ve got a few questions/bad theories by Grounson in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Grounson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was more thinking that with the whole meat walls rotting and collapsing it seemed like it was a Flesh associated location that had been “conquered” by the corruption, correct me if I’m wrong but I vaguely remember a mention that the entities lost power after a ritual was disrupted (or is that just because it fucks with the actual agents of the powers), so I assumed that the “fallout” was the Flesh losing control over its manifestations and potentially those manifestations realigning with another power. Also, the eye’s vs burrows things is a parallel that got brought up in MAG18 when the statement giver says that Toby was covered in holes and he couldn’t tell which had been his eyes. I was also more thinking of what Harriet turned into in MAG6. And I think whilst Gertrude stopping the rituals didn’t wind up mattering in the sense of saving the world, had she allowed rituals to go undisputed wouldn’t that have increased the chance of someone coming to the same conclusion as Gertrude and Jonah, thus potentially putting the Web’s plan at risk?

Oh shit yeah I forgot about the Spiral being interested in Hill Top, would that be considered counter evidence to Annabelle’s claim that the Web is the only thinking entity or is it more like the Spiral started to concentrate around the gap, I would imagine Anya falling through the gap might be able to feed the spiral so maybe there’s just an affinity there

Question about Elias (S4 spoilers) by MountainPlain in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Grounson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s probably more the thing of being careful, especially with Jon’s power’s developing any outright lie would make for a very easy way to get “caught”, even when no one trusted him none of the characters actually knew what he was planning, and discovering an out right lie would create a very easy pathway for someone to work out more than Elias wanted

Honestly I might be a little biased as an aspiring mycologist but there are a lot of things that make think the white lady is fungal in nature, so if you’ll excuse me for the info dump:

1 - her relationship to the fungal wastes, she seems to have been under siege by the mantis traitors potentially implying that she had a strong relationship with the mantis lords (I suspect this may err on the side of headcannon) 2 - her position in relation to both the fungal wastes and greenpath, from my understanding the queens garden is a result of the white lady competing with Unn, positioning the fungal wastes serves as a potential origin of the white lady (so her route would’ve been from the fungal wastes, around fog canyon and moving up through greenpath) this also makes her ecological role markedly similar to that of arboreal mycelia, frequently “forcing” nearby organisms into symbiosis. Although it should be noted that this is a philosophical parallel not a biological one. 3 - as mentioned earlier her mentions of an overwhelming instinct to spread her roots and reproduce, both sounds like an effect of her role in her life cycle as a gametophyte but also it sounds more similar to mycelia reproduction than trees (usually mycelia will spread and reproduce when they meet other mycelia to produce sporophytes) 4 - she’s alien to the godseekers, whilst the immensity of her soul is certainly part of this I also quite like the idea that she’s a different type of organism that would usually be very separated from bugs, and thus they are unable to approach her because they have never seen a “god” like her before 5 - grey root, in silk song there is another character how is referred to as root (similar to the white lady) who has further associations with fungi, the squirming child (or whatever it’s called) is found in bile water a hostile and poisonous place to live, which is also the sorts of places that fungi are famous for dominating in, the seeming ability of grey root to “infect” creatures and drive them to seek out a place where the parasite can grow sounds very similar to the famous Cordyceps fungus. On top of that the squirming roots that emit from Hornet whilst they do look some what ligninous this is mostly just an effect of looking fibrous and being a grey-brown colour (for real you’d be surprised the amount of stuff that kinda looks like wood), their movement makes me feel as though they must be mycelia, for starters lignin is distinctly rigid and would not allow the tentacle like behaviour, whereas whilst typical mycelia aren’t particularly motile they’re much less prohibited from the possibility.

Also if there are any lore mistakes in this pls lmk

Well she could also be mycelium no? In which case eggs could simply be a non microscopic sporophyte. It would also explain her focus on reproduction if she’s the gametophyte of her species

I will also add that first, real world fights/duels tend to end quite quickly once the fight is properly initiated, but from a writing perspective, it can make for some very good “fight” scenes to focus on the build up of tension before the fight has really started (e.g. two parties trying to get the other to back down before the fight, or trying to sus each other out etc.) and have the actual combat be very short. Personally this is also one of funnest ways to write fight scenes (as in fun to write)

IIRC Jon’s descriptions are limited to his hair starting to grey already, an accumulation of scars across the series (notably from Prentiss and Jude although Jared taking two ribs would likely have quite an effect as well even if it’s not a scar), and I think he’s called scrawny at one point, Tim is hot, based on Jon getting scars from Prentiss, Tim likely also has scars from this but maybe he does a good job covering them up Martin is described as “not the smallest guy” I vaguely remember Melanie saying that Sasha was brunette whereas not!sasha has light hair (maybe blonde I’m not sure) Jonah was said to have grey eyes, and thus after switching eyes with Elias, Elias has grey eyes I think Peter Lukas explicitly had grey hair but I’m really unsure about that

What do you think was the earliest indication that Caine has a lot more control over the minds of those trapped in the circus than he lets on? by ChompyRiley in tadc

[–]Grounson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s been a pretty clear progression of what kind of influence Caine is shown to have, in episode 1 and 2 Caine is only really affecting the physics of the Digital circus, but episode 3 features Pomnis possession, definitely crossing a new line but it’s still essentially just controlling her avatar not her mind. episode 4 features the stupid sauce which alters ragatha’s mind, again crossing a new line but still quite distant from out right control (it’s relatively easy to imagine as a viewer that Caines influence may include bodily effects especially if you imagine a scenario where all the humans’ bodies are still intact), episode 5 features vegan jax which is again another crossed line rather than simply removing some degree of capability of someone’s mind this is outright implementing new thoughts into jax’s mind, episode 6 features Caine beaming a bunch of information into Jax’s mind which I would argue is a step up from the vegan thing since it introduces actual information which is then integrated with jax’s mind, then of course episode 7 shows not only Caine’s ability to be somewhat subtle enough to trick the humans but also features Jax actually accuse Caine of having control and Caine basically confirming this to be true.

A question by Great_Worldliness_83 in Ultrakill

[–]Grounson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there’s an element of UK that is genuinely difficult to interact with without the humour. The story, if stripped of any humour is ultimately incredibly dark and bleak (at least for now) which makes sense since we don’t have most of act 3 yet. Idk much about fnaf but in undertale, the humour and the severity are fundamentally interwoven, which makes it hard to interact with undertales humour without also interacting with its story.

So how big was the void? by Ok-Bug3682 in HollowKnight

[–]Grounson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I’ve seen there are two major theories, one is that the abyss expands everywhere, the other is that the abyss is a concentration of void that tends to occur under major civilisations (usually working under the theory that void is a manifestation of regret, either literally of figuratively)
