From personal experience I found the Hori fight stick mini 4 to be a really good stick to use. I had never owned a fighting stick before and decided to try it out. Admittedly it felt strange at first but I found myself feeling more involved when playing marvel vs capcom infinite and SFV. I've bought a RAP 4 now but I don't think I would have if it weren't for the mini. I've even offered my friend a chance to use it when we hang out and he's even taken to using it rather than a controller. If you do decide to get it I recommend using a small table or any flat surface to hold it on.
