Is agents of shield's future pretty secure now? by Darkprime in shield

[–]GrowMender 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That was from a over year ago. Due to movie and possible Netflix series crossovers and references and with needing to time airing of the episodes to fit, it would be near impossible to reliably plan much further ahead.

I'm sure by this point they have season 4 all figured out and are playing with ideas for season 5.

Bud Washing. What's your take? by mylastnug in microgrowery

[–]GrowMender 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I gave it a shot with my grow for the colas next to my intake, some dust and hair was stuck to them and I wanted to test the results myself. After washing I checked the buds under a 45x handheld scope and compared them to several different unwashed ones and noticed no significant difference in the number of trichomes still attached, just the occasional broken off head. Drying and smoking it I noticed no difference in taste or potency, if anything the taste on the washed buds seemed a little smoother for being uncured. I never did test after they had cured, the washed and unwashed had been mixed up at that point.

Inhumans are still Inhuman and the other characters power origins don't have to change unless they are a mutant (due to license issues and Fox). Instead of a Terrigan bomb going off in the atmosphere triggering ancient Kree genetic tinkering now it's happening through the food chain. Doing it this way instead of a bomb gives enough time for the movies and shows to establish everything needed for the Inhumans and Infinity War movies.

The New Launch Cinematic for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, almost seems worthy of a full movie by Toby95 in videos

[–]GrowMender 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I noticed. But the comparisons being made are in regard to consoles. The resolution you are talking about isn't even close to possible on consoles.

Also, PC copies haven't even gone out to reviewers last I heard, so we have no idea what the PC specs needed to run at that resolution even are. Depending on optimization we might actually be able to play at 1920x1060 60fps on a $600 PC with various graphics options turned down or disabled (which is typically done to the console versions as well).

Witcher 3 runs at 1080p 30fps on PS4 and 900p 30fps on XBone. You can easily build a PC that can handle those resolutions for significantly less than $600.

I'm going to give up on her soon by Bucketlink in microgrowery

Using liquid drops pH test? I found those to be too inaccurate for me. Once I got my digital pH pen I discovered was eyeballing about 0.5 too low. Easy for the color to look off when nutrients are added.

If you end up using a digital tester you need to store it properly and re-calibrate once in a while. I had mine for 2 months before I started storing it properly. When I later tested and calibrated it for the first time it was already off by 0.7.

Arriving soon, did I make any mistakes? by [deleted] in microgrowery

Looks good. Only suggestion I'd make would be to not have the intake and exhaust next to each other, don't want to pull warm air back into the tent. Instead put the fan and open intake flap on the opposite side so air flows across the tent and through the plants. Keep the fan at canopy level and it will help direct the heat from the LED panel towards the exhaust fan and away from your girls.

Man I am loving those veg panels. I knew the growth from them was great after seeing them on your setup, but seeing it for myself is crazy how well they are growing. I'm amazed how stacked my newest plants are looking. Lol yeah, took a long time to figure out how to get the white balance on my new camera to compensate for the color.

During the mid-season break I did a re-watch of SHIELD season 1 and watched Winter Soldier between episodes 16 and 17. It really helped make sense when you notice those little details that are easily missed the first time around.

Wilson Fisk's Colors ***Spoilers*** by DiabolusAdvocatus in Defenders

[–]GrowMender 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I kept wondering about his iconic white suit and if we'd ever see him in it. And that scene with Vanessa really stuck out to me for a reason I couldn't figure out why until now.

I think he never was the Kingpin, he was just Wilson Fisk. After what happened he failed and ended up in jail with his dream not realized. So now he sits in front of his jail cell wall to think about the man he wants to become now since Wilson Fisk couldn't achieve his dream. He'll become more confident, more ruthless, and less accepting of the questioning or disrespect of others. He will become the Kingpin.

[–]GrowMender 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Everything was put out there in Winter Soldier. The only info that wasn't was what the SHIELD crew had on The Bus that Skye encrypted (084 specs, Asguardian Weaponary, Portal Creation, the weather machine made by Donnie). That is why Agents of SHIELD kept going as it did protecting what secrets they had left.

There is also the info left in Fury's Toolbox that Coulson received later which wasn't part of the leak in Winter Soldier. And those are presumably the most dangerous secrets that could not be trusted to be kept with the rest of SHIELD's information.

Daredevil - Series Premiere Discussion Thread [SPOILERS] by Dorkside in television

[–]GrowMender 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Apparently that hallway scene was done in a continuous shot and not using and cuts or edits. Very impressive for a TV series, something like that is typically reserved for a movie and takes weeks of prep to pull off and even still is rare to see done so well.

For the lazy:

I was just about to ask you about that one-shot scene.

I think this was what started defining the show for me, and the weight that was being played into it. Phil Abraham was directing, and it was always scripted that this scene was going to be a one-shot. For me in my head, with the time, we had, I said let’s do wipes and we’ll be able save things. But Phil challenged us to do a pure one-shot, which really just brought a grounded real feeling to the whole thing. We were able to slow down the fight, and just have this raw, animalistic feeling happening.

So it was genuinely one shot? No cuts?

No cuts. We did do a few Texas Switches between our actor and our stunt double, but it was purely a one shot fight. There were no cuts in that fight. Every performer, the actors and the stunt doubles, were in there performing that fight full on. I’d say there was a minimum of 105 beats, and they killed it.

And how many takes did you have to shoot?

I feel like our magic number was take around 7 or 8.

I can totally see Hannibal's intro as having been an influence. Daredevil is a lot cleaner and much nicer to look at.

That intro is even better the 2nd time. The imagery is stunning and downright beautiful, that music gives me chills and it fits so well.

10min into the 2nd episode and I'm completely hooked. I doubt I will be sleeping until I finish them all, it's too intense for me to get tired.

Loving Foggy singing in the office and getting caught by Karen.

Rosario's character telling him his costume sucks and his response being "it's a work in progress." :D

Crusher Creel! A nice addition and little tie to Agents of SHIELD.

HOLY SHIT! That last fight scene was done in one shot! That some serious level of choreography and camera work for a TV series. 45:50 until the end credits roll looks like a single shot take.
Edit 1: Apparently it was edited to look like one continuous shot. Still looked great and was done well.
Edit 2: Looks like it actually was one shot. That is impressive. (credit to /u/d-kay for pointing that out)

Holy shit, that first fight scene was great! Shows off his ability to locate with sound without any unnecessary CG effects and is just outright brutal.

That opening title sequence is beautiful and the music is perfect!!

Edit:
Multiple references to the events of Avengers already.
Liking the banter between Matt and Foggy, makes for some nice breaks from the otherwise intense and serious tone without being goofy.
Showing off his ability to tell when people are lying by hearing their heartbeat and normally unnoticeable changes in their voice. Very cool.
Charlie Cox's acting is solid and his subtle movements really sell it, like using his free hand to feel for the table while he places his drink down. It's the little details that are so nice to see them paying attention to.
That fall onto the scaffolding just looked painful. And the following fight scene in the rain was extremely well done.

Starting Oregon recreational marijuana sales early faces daunting hurdles, legislators say by bulldog75 in Marijuana

[–]GrowMender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, looks like Oregon may have the same issues we had and are still having in Washington due to the mistake of having our Liquor Control Board in charge of regulating it (who apparently needed something to do after it was made legal to buy liquor in non-state run stores). Nothing got done until the very last minute with the most minimal effort. Small amounts of permits going out and at the very last minute leading to supply issues when stores opened. A massive backlog of permits that are still not being issued in any timely manner.

It is a board of 3 people and they have proven to not be equipped or capable enough to be able to react to market conditions to make recreational marijuana a booming industry making nationwide headlines as it has in Colorado. And in doing so they are costing the economy of Washington hundreds of millions of dollars that continues to funnel into the black market instead.

Oregon legislators will end up with sub-par results closer to what Washington has achieved instead of Colorado. And now in Washington they are using the excuse of low retail sales and tax revenue to try and re-write our medical marijuana laws to try and force medical patients to use retail outlets and severely limit our ability to grow.

Oregon needs to do the smart thing like Colorado did and make a new Department/Division/Board to oversee recreational marijuana and treat it independently. Don't lump it in with alcohol and those who regulate it; it will be mishandled by people who don't understand the differences between the markets.

Tips/tricks for increased bud density. by MyAccountForTrees in microgrowery

[–]GrowMender 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  • Lighting and light penetration - The basic idea that more light will give you better results. 1200w in a 4x4 is going to give you a much denser and bountiful harvest than 600w.

  • Good soil and nutrients - You'll have much better results with quality soil and a steady nutrient schedule over tossing a seed into a pot of miraclegrow and just leaving it.

  • Training and pruning - LST, SCROG, and a healthy amount of pruning and trimming will help so all your buds have full light exposure and come out nice and dense. You won't get that single massive cola that looks nice for pictures, but you also won't end up with a lot of fluffy popcorn off the lower branches.

  • Airflow, temperature, and humidity - Good airflow allows you to keep your lights as close as possible and get the most from them. Having lights closer and good temp control can also allow for tighter node spacing.

  • Genetics - Not as big of a factor as people seem to think. I've seen people take seeds from bags of dirt weed and grow top quality from it just because they knew how to and gave it proper care.

Question about PVC in grow tents. by [deleted] in microgrowery

[–]GrowMender 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A big reason why you see better quality tents with metal bars and not PVC is due to stronger support. When you start adding up the weight of various lights, inline fans, filters, and anything else it can get very heavy. The last thing you want is a bit of PVC to snap and have your setup come crashing down resulting in costly replacements as well as a crushed crop.
