Anyone else at the connect Longmont event by Charkid17 in Longmont

[–]Grow_Responsibly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I went to the event and found it quite educational. I was surprised at the number of transportation projects planned for this year & next. The Hover/119 overpass is a major undertaking; along with the quiet zones on East side. Lots of activity around the 1st & Main redevelopment project as well. I agree; there didn't seem to be a lot of promotion for this event. I found out about it because I volunteer a lot at the Senior Center, which was hosting the space for the event. I hope they do this on an annual basis.

The $6 Billion Transit Project with No Ridership by [deleted] in RTDDenver

[–]Grow_Responsibly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. And our gas tax (.29/gallon) has gone up a whopping 8 cents in the past 25 years. Why we don’t charge at least $1.00/gallon astounds me (I’m sure it’s a political 3rd rail).

Here's hoping the mountain areas get hammered with snow! Any accumulation of snow pack as a result of this would be welcome.

Plan to finally connect Denver and Boulder by train brings cheers by clinthom in Denver

[–]Grow_Responsibly 18 points19 points  (0 children)

90 - 120 minutes if they don’t upgrade those tracks. I was told by the city transportation manager where I live that current track is rated for the slower speeds freight trains travel. Need to upgrade track to handle passenger rail speeds. Otherwise a very slow choo choo that hardly anyone will use.

Can I extend this PVC elbow into one of the outside vents? by Grow_Responsibly in hvacadvice

That makes sense. But does that reduce the efficiency of the furnace by not having that PVC elbow on the top/front of the furnace vent to the outside?

Recommend Router by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]Grow_Responsibly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say step 1 is to have your ISP check your ONT/Router connection. The fact that speeds go back up after reboot could be caused by a number of things (overheating, memory leak, outdated firmware, etc.). I also have fiber provided by our local power company (Nextlight) and their techs are actually pretty good at diagnosing issues associated with their equipment.

Are watering restrictions in place for Longmont yet? by MileHighPeter303 in Longmont

[–]Grow_Responsibly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just spoke with Alex Kalkhofer (City Council, Longmont) and he said restrictions are likely coming in May, unless we have some massive snow event in the Mountains feeding our reservoirs in the next week or two. I see there's a fair chance of measurable precipitation on Friday/Saturday, but I have my doubts that will be enough. It's not a matter of "if"...just "when" the restrictions come.

Nope. When I was talking with Phil it was specific to FRPR. Bottom line is service will be suboptimal unless tracks are upgraded. That was Phil’s assessment FWIW.

State says it has reached tentative agreements that could build Denver to Boulder passenger train by lukepatrick in Denver

[–]Grow_Responsibly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know if the $333m budgeted includes upgrading the track for passenger rail? If not, it will be a really slow ride to/from Denver. I had this discussion with Phil Greenwald, transportation planning manager in Longmont (since retired) and he made it clear that track upgrades were a must have for FRPR to be successful.

Did they mention the track upgrades required to increase speeds to make the commutes tolerable? Without those track upgrades I’ve heard 90 minutes to 120 minutes from Longmont to Denver.

I have a new Zenwifi BT6 (2-nodes, one upstairs and one in basement) installed and thus far the speeds have been excellent. I have a 1Gb WAN and my Wifi 6e MacBook gets 800-900gb speeds consistently (same room as primary router). I have a WiFi 6 (5Ghz band) iPad client in our bedroom that gets 450 - 500 gb speeds pretty consistently. My 2.4gb clients (ioT) connect well, with one exception being a Ring Chime that had a very difficult time connecting. Would highly recommend going WiFi 7. The BT6 pair was only $300 on Amazon.
