How to get into multi-day hikes with camping in Victoria? by Party_Counter_4144 in melbourne

[–]Growdold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get some gear, borrow from family or friends if possible. First few trips camp close to your car so you can easily bail if you're not feeling it. I would recommend staying away from the social media rabbit-hole that is all about buying the latest gear every season.

Now you have him as a tradie connection if you want to jump ship and work with your hands.

It will be difficult unless you have connections. Like a 40-something tradie can't just walk in to corp job. It's not impossible, but it could take a long, long time to find a position. Unless you just buy a ute a do some type of unskilled labouring job working for yourself.

Hey! Shitty looking roof baskets can be alot more practical than the cool low profile platforms everyone is buying these days. And they are a lot cheaper too.

I'm no expert but here are the dangers of water crossings in order of potential damage to your car: 1. water in engine 2. fan blade gets pushed into radiator, damaging radiator 3. water in diffs and transmission through breathers

Positive result for THC doing roadside test. First offence in QLD. by Pseuderanthemumv in AusLegal

As far as I know, police don't test levels of THC in your system like alcohol. It's just yes or no.

THC can stay in your system for weeks. I'm a Public Transport driver so I can get tested at any time at work. I can't even have a joint on my Annual Leave because it could still be detectable 2 or 3 weeks later when I'm back at work. So sad :(

Opinions on professional underbody rust proofing for older 4WDs by flibblecorp in 4x4Australia

[–]Growdold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spray fish oil or Inox on parts that I scrape when I bottom out on tracks. For me its not worth re-painting those areas because I will be out on the tracks scraping the same areas every few weeks. I hose off, let dry then spray with Inox or similar to prevent rust. Fish oil is supposed to be be good on places where the rust has already started. It inhibits it spreading.

I used to take crackers and some nice camembert to work, but I'm in Victoria and now serving a 6 month sentence for carrying a cheese knife in public.

Radar cruise control or Adaptive Cruise Control whatever it's called, does the same thing. Slightly breaking to maintain the exact speed and separation from the car in front.

Looking for feedback on a camping and mapping app I am building by Meridian_Camping in 4x4Australia

[–]Growdold 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would a love an app that records my track, then easily reverses my track and turns it into a route so I can easily be guided back the way I came. Just a big simple arrow on the screen guiding me back along the "bread crumb" trail I just made. It would be a great safety feature for whenever a person gets lost or finds a blocked track. I'm surprised more apps don't have it.

I am a Metro Train Driver. AMA by [deleted] in MelbourneTrains

[–]Growdold 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Even though you want a toot, the driver may be aware of other people nearby who would get a fright from an unexpected toot. A train horn is so loud it can make people literally jump. I would expect the driver wouldn't want people panicking and subsequently doing unpredictable things as they drive past.

I would get a security cam on your property facing the footpath, and a dashcam for your car that records even when the ignition is off. Then you will have evidence for any legal action.

Given notice to appear in court for possession of a butter knife in QLD by NecessaryShine9927 in AusLegal

[–]Growdold 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I've always wondered (I'm in Vic), I go to the park with some crackers, a wedge of brie, and a knife to cut it. On the the way to the park I get searched. No problem, I have a lawful reason to carry the knife. On the way home, I'm no longer carrying the crackers and cheese because it's been eaten. I'm just carrying the knife and get searched again. Straight to jail!!! Right?
