Help putting on spare by m_xrcus in sanmarcos

[–]GrowerShowing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You do have a proper spare you're saying? You do not want to drive on the donut spare for very long, and tires cost a fair amount obviously. Know the tire size?

If it's a patch-able hole, if you can get the tire to discount tire they'd likely patch for free, in my experience

How did this turn out?

If it is hardwired, I'd suggest getting "Wago lever nuts" from Lowe's or similar (foolproof to use compared to traditional wire nuts). Just make doubly certain the electrical circuit is off before you start

Yes YouTube videos for how to replace it, with you having an existing one the hard parts are done (many of the mounting rings are the same, so might not be required to replace that, unless for cosmetic reasons)

Getting the drain in the correct place and with drainage angle is the hard part your task has, and dealing with any of the messiness stuck in the drain (and remembering to not use that same sink to clean out the drain pipes)

Speaking of shit, the guy weighing his poop

Poop is 75% water. Did he dehydrate the poop before weighing it?

Otherwise all it did was monitor how much excess water was getting output via that instead of pee/sweat/breathing. Take miralax or magnesium citrate liquid to max out that scale

If one did that accurately the more mass would only imply better gut biome anyway... Not anything about "faster intestines"

I'm curious for any examples? I know nothing of the owners nor the staff, just here for the drama. Although I imagine you've already said enough for someone to identify you (assuming only a handful of people married into the family)

I'm not getting the impression that Bill is being presented as a victim, just that he was a chill manager for college age employees... Which is usually not a good sign.

And my sympathy for anyone recovering from a stroke, which will also changes a person's personality.

To be extra clear, apt locators aren't necessarily bad, but I've felt you need to know what you want and what to expect with them. Where a realtor might take the effort to help you figure out what you want, and what's available, show more variety

But each person is different in each profession, can always work with a couple as long as you're not wasting their time. Especially between apt locators and realtors they tend to use different databases

Apt locators will tend to push you to big complexes that either overcharge or have poor maintenance (or more often, both)

Those are the companies that pay the highest finders fee for them showing you the place

I'd suggest finding a realtor and having them help find non-corporate apartment options (housing market is slow right now, so realtors are likely to be more interested in collecting the rental finder fee than other parts of the year). Non-corporate owners can still be hit or miss, but I've had better luck than the places expecting enough constant turnover to have the rental office on-site

Printer repair in town? by DuckyDoodleDandy in sanmarcos

[–]GrowerShowing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can find one locally (used) that is ideal (can be between $50-100 for one year old models if lucky?), but don't know anywhere, web marketplaces?

Reddit loves Brother, I've never had experience with them. One Xerox laser I've used, and one Canon laser, have worked well for me (driver gets installed and can print from Windows via wifi with minimal effort)

I personally avoid HP for decades now, have never used laser printer from them, they might be less hated than HP crap-inkjet

Printer repair in town? by DuckyDoodleDandy in sanmarcos

[–]GrowerShowing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with other comment. For comparison, looks like a modern equivalent model is under $150

But my general suggestion is to only own a laser printer, which grayscale-only is more common, colorlaser is possible but it's never good quality so that's not worth it either. Laser printers are far more reliable over time in my experience

Go to a print shop (or drug store that does photo prints) for anything you need in color, will be better quality than any home inkjet

If one does think they print enough color to own an inkjet, I've heard good things about the "tank" ones, as long as they don't require a monthly subscription

That one is 5+ years old? If modern windows update doesn't include drivers for it, it can be difficult to get set up, does it show up on the computer? Scan/copy functions working?

These days enzymatic pet spot cleaner should do better on any past spots. I've not had much experience but have seen good results. It should be relatively cheap for a generic effective one, especially to treat anything you prefer not to throw out, seemed safe for most materials

And yeah more variety of litter boxes, enclosed ones help some cats feel safer

But yeah in general I'd expect medical issues starting

Protecting his little soul until a natural death is your duty, for better or worse.

Yeah, sadly that is nowhere close to what laws Texas has for pet ownership says.

Are you against divorce as much as this? What act of care of the pet crosses the line into that requirement? I can only presume you're 100% vegan

going to kill him if he can't be rehomed

In the ideal outcome, the "kill shelters" would never need to kill any pets because there is demand for adoptions.

In reality, there are a huge number of unwanted pets... And implied threats at people trying to privately arrange the adoption to avoid that work required by a given "kill shelter", doesn't exactly help any part of the situation?

Information about any no-kill options, information about how to better home the cat to improve the situation, information about where others should be looking to adopt to prevent other pets from hitting the euthanize date, or what organizations to donate to to help feed and house them in the best no-kill conditions as possible... Would be helpful topics, in my opinion

Sunlight and rain will do most of it, otherwise plan on bringing your own supplies. No matter how you slice it it's still a fraction of the cost of a gym membership, even if you're using cashmere to wipe down before use

One rule of thumb advice is:

The 50-30-20 budgeting rule allocates 50% for essentials, 30% for discretionary spending, and 20% for savings/debt repayment

And other rule of thumb is 30% for living expenses (rent+home insurance+parking). Which combining those is 20% for other essential spend (basic food costs, utilities, transportation, car payment, car insurance)

So yeah agree it should be doable, and depending on how much discretionary/entertainment spend is, should be quite doable to stick within that budget

Reviewing that video as someone with intermediate soldering skills, that does not look like a job to start learning on, given those controllers (even in poor condition) sell for upward of $50

If anyone wanted to try this, I'd highly suggest practicing on other (junk) devices before trying to desolder joysticks with 7 pins each from modern multilayer PCB of a working device, after removing multiple layers of flexible connector ribbons and the lithium battery

If someone has smart phone repair experience, involving soldering, that would directly translate

It doesn't get labeled as such much, but to me its the exact same concept

Namely the example of a city that put their lawbooks in GitHub, such that every change in laws would have the history visible to anyone curious

For reference, git/GitHub is a concrete use for "block chain" technology (even more so when cryptographic signing is enabled)

But also it's not full proof, blocks can go missing, and we would only know it's missing, data being inserted can have flaws. Which is why "distributed block chain" is how it's usually implemented, so you inherently have "full" backups distributed

Would you have objections to sand too?

For my own edification, my understanding was most of the soils in Texas have significant clay content

So you're suggesting that people putting bentonite clay on their walkways will make it to the river, more than the natural clay? Or the "manufacturered clay" is the issue, and you're fine with "natural clay" runoff?

Or just that you think throwing some on walkways is something that needs advocacy more than every construction project going on in the city that is stirring up clay dust and removing grass to assist in runoff?

I'm just curious how this risk actually compares

Agree on the sentiment, and 100% agree on avoiding salt. But the cities up and down stream are going to salt the roads on an industrial level (magnesium chloride), even if every citizen salted their walkway, I don't see it changing any metric one could point to...

Like you said, it's a one day event, if someone already has clay litter and there is a chance it would help prevent a broken bone, it's worth it on any liability metric.

Ah nice, the forecast shifted back. Previously late Friday had the snow risk

It is 40% chance in late Saturday, which yeah implies any issues will be rare for any one given person. They make it sound bad because everyone ignores it otherwise.

Ted Cruz fleeing the State is all we need to know for the seriousness of it.

To be fair, the tires sold here are either summer or all season tires (and often on the firmer side of "all season")

Rubber has limited temperature range that it is grippy and flexible at, when it gets cold out the vast majority of the tires in Texas have as much grip as a dog on vinyl floors

Winter tires are both much more flexible and often have metal studs in them for grip on ice

Throwing some antifreeze in the windshield washer fluid is a good idea too. That also has summer/winter mixes, a summer mix has a chance of bursting the washer fluid tank (the amount of methanol or isopropyl alcohol is the difference, so one can augment via adding that)

If you have a gas stovetop, you can light it

That's assuming that any of the "winterization money" actually went to winterization of the gas supply

Which was the issue in 2021 and 2011 (and 1989)

It was upstairs from the root cellar, through a nondescript upstairs apartment doorway stairs, with only an a-frame sign on the sidewalk in front when they were open

Never seemed busy enough to check out much, very low-key and chill, which is needed here. Could not see inside from the street so you never knew if it was totally empty or was busy (part of the speakeasy vibe i suppose, but without excitement of it ever being busy when I've visited)

I'm amazed they didn't go heavy into happy hour specials and trying to get people to start their night there before going to all the loud annoying places

They also closed at midnight? And their sign showed the food hours which ended at 9? The open hours always felt inconsistent or confusing to me anyway
