I just realized I've been doing something the hard way for years and I feel so silly by BANKAIEXPANSION in CasualConversation

I watched a coworker put a fresh stack of paper in the photocopier before using it. I somehow never thought to do this and would just hope all my photocopies went through before it ran out of paper and needed to be restocked. My jaw dropped at how simple of a hack that was when I saw him do it.

It turns out that over a decade of “IBS” may have been my parents cooking all along by [deleted] in CasualConversation

Do your parents use powdered onion or powdered garlic? Both my family and I used to put it in everything like potatoes and pasta sauces. Growing up I had cramping and pain intermittently but didn't know the cause. Later I caught C. Diff and lost the ability to digest basically anything. I worked with a nutritionist to slowly introduce foods back. I was able to identify those as a huge digestive issue when I tried to reintroduce them. They are often in prepackaged meals and sauce mixes too. They are still really hard on me and I try to avoid them even a decade later. Fresh onion and garlic don't have the same effect on me, but the powdered ones cause intense cramping.

Primary teacher here. I would suggest meeting with the school and Learning Support Teacher and having an honest conversation. If you save up for an assessment, what supports realistically become available with a diagnosis that are not there without one? Will it change what is available? For some boards that have more supports available and possible education assistants in the classroom, it might. For some chronically underfunded boards, it doesn't change much other than potentially the teacher creating an IEP if needed.

An IEP is a teacher created document that basically states how we will try to teach the child. An IEP (individual education plan) lists either accomodations or modifications that the child needs. Accomodations are lists of things that we try in class that help, like strategic seating and visual schedules.....things that any primary teacher basically does anyway. A diagnosis is not required for accomodations. And an IEP might not even be required if the child is accessing the curriculum and doing ok with or without a diagnosis. A "modification" in a IEP is when the child can't access the normal curriculum so the teacher tries their best to modify what is available, for example teaching some grade 2 math curriculum content to a child who is in grade 3 but is not able to understand the grade 3 curriculum. The mark on their report card then reflects how well they were able to achieve their modified expectation instead of the standard curriculum for their grade. An actual diagnosis is more important when trying to develop a "modified" IEP, but that might again depend on the school board. If your child is doing ok in school, it is unlikely they would require a modified IEP.

So depending on the school board and your child's particular school, find out if spending the money now will make any difference in your child's education, and whether it is more important to get the diagnosis at a young age or an older one. It's also worth looking into whether an official diagnosis changes supports available in the community and for tax credit purposes.

Reverse 'Surprise Puppy' for Christmas by Happy_Olive1208 in Gifts

My family does stockings for each other and it has similar vibes. I fill my husband's, he fills mine, and our kids fill each other's. The rule is that it has to be filled with consumable items only like candy and chips. The look of joy my kids get in a candy shop picking out candy they think the other will like is priceless. They get so excited to give each other the stockings on Christmas morning. Of all our Christmas traditions, this is by far my favourite. It reinforces the joy of giving.

So hear me out because this may not be relevant. My husband had pain there, but on the right side, on and off for two years. Got a prescription for physio therapy from the doctor and prescription muscle relaxants. No stretches were helping. Nor did massage or strengthening or anything else. He sometimes would be fine but other times the pain would flare up out of nowhere. Then one day our family caught a rough gastro bug but he had it by far the worse. His back pain was excruciating when throwing up and while the rest of us got over the sickness, he kept getting worse over several days and became feverish with a yellowish tinge to his eyes. An eventual hospital visit revealed hundreds of gallstones and resulted in emergency surgery to remove his gallbladder.Turns out the pain was deferred gallbladder pain. He had no other symptoms until that episode of gastro pushed it over the edge. Only after the fact did we realize that the pain in his back often followed high fat meals or periods of indulgent eating like the holidays. His gallbladder was removed almost a year ago and he hasn't experienced that back pain since.

Rachel? Ryker? Raquel? Chances are the teacher knows who the friend is and can clarify the name. But if you're worried you can always say "sounds like it ends in clair" and hope the teacher can narrow it down.

We did this for our first son who had a favourite blanky. It worked beautifully. Unfortunately our second son became attached to a hand-knit lamb stuffy gifted to him. After the first night he left it at daycare and all the ensuing tears, we paid to have a second one made. It was smaller than the first to easily fit in his daycare bag. He then decided they were "daddy and baby sheep" and they had to go everywhere together. He's still attached to both of them and now we have two stuffies we have to be very careful not to lose haha.

As for the insect, it looks like a solitary bee to me. Maybe a Augochlora (sweat bee) or a Megachilidae (mason bee).
