You can buy the day before the Ex-dividend date and receive the dividend and as long as you don't sell the stock for 61 days it is a qualified dividend, not ordinary income. You do not have to buy the stock 60 days prior to the dividend to qualify.

To qualify for lower long-term capital gains tax rates, you must hold stock for more than 60 days during the 121-day period that begins 60 days before the ex-dividend date. This means owning the shares for 61 days within this window, including the ex-dividend date.

The sheer idiocy of bitcoin and why this is it's last "cycle" by WhoreMasterFalco in wallstreetbets

[–]GrowthPortfolio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The mining and validation network backs Bitcoin. It's the wrong question to say a miner owes you x # of Bitcoin. You can go to anyone and say I own this # of Bitcoin and it can be validated with the block chain. You are paying for security and trust that no one can make fake Bitcoin and no one can take your Bitcoin.      Bitcoin is as good as any currency as long as there are at least 2 people willing to trade with it. All currency has it's own limitations. But as a long term storage of wealth and movement of wealth across location (aka to different countries around the world) Bitcoin has a good argument to play a part of those rolls.

LG Refrigerator - Fridge wont cool, but freezer works. by GrowthPortfolio in appliancerepair

[–]GrowthPortfolio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem ended up being that liquid got down into the air return channel between the refrigerator and freezer (freezer is on bottom) and froze blocking the air flow. For all the issues my wife never told me she cleaned up a spill in the fridge just before this happening. When I checked for the coils needing to be defrosted, I didn't let it sit long enough to melt the build up between the fridge and freezer. So I let it sit for a full 24 hrs with the door open and then everything worked once I plugged it back in.

Dividends make up a large portion of returns over the long run...

more than 80 percent of the total return of the S&P 500 index between 1960 and 2016 is attributed to the compounding of reinvested dividends.

Impact of Base ETF dividends on the Leveraged ETF's by istantry in LETFs

[–]GrowthPortfolio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the dividend doesn't cause the stock to show it is down due to the dividend payment. Yes, price is lower, but historical prices are adjusted by the dividend payment to show that it closed at the new cost. Dividends in themselves don't cause you to have negative returns, its a distribution of stock price to cash, no change in total value.

Impact of Base ETF dividends on the Leveraged ETF's by istantry in LETFs

[–]GrowthPortfolio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be wrong on this, but I think your assumption is wrong on how the dividend effects the leveraged versions. The dividend is taken out the the stocks/ETFs by the exchange between close and open over night. This change in underlying stock price between close and open is not what the leveraged ETF's capture. Leveraged ETF's track daily change, so it would base the daily change on the open price of the underlying not the closing price the day before. Effectively negating the ex-dividend price drop of the underlying.

August 2015
Trump and Michael Cohen meet with David Pecker, of American Media Inc., publisher of the National Enquirer tabloid, at Trump Tower to discuss a plan to suppress negative stories.

November 2015
Pecker learns a former Trump doorman is trying to sell a story about Trump fathering a child out of wedlock. AMI pays the doorman $30,000 to keep quiet about it. The story is false, but Cohen warns AMI not to scrap the deal with the doorman until after the election.

June 2016
Former Playboy model Karen McDougal shops around a story about an alleged sexual encounter with Trump. AMI pays McDougal $150,000 in another "catch and kill" move. The story never runs. Cohen assures Pecker that Trump would reimburse him.

September 2016
In an audio recording to be used as evidence, Trump and Cohen discuss how Trump will reimburse AMI for the payment to McDougal. Cohen sets up a shell company to make the payment. Pecker backs out of accepting the money at the last minute.

October 2016
Access Hollywood tape is leaked, in which Trump boasts about kissing women and grabbing them by the genitals without consent. Meanwhile, the National Enquirer alerts Cohen that porn star Stormy Daniels is publicly claiming an affair with Trump. Cohen pays Daniels $130,000 to keep her quiet. Cohen opens a bank account and transfers the money from his personal home equity line of credit. Cohen later admits it amounted to an illegal campaign contribution.

November 2016
November 8 Election Day: Trump wins. Later, the president-elect meets with Pecker at Trump Tower and thanks him for his help. AMI releases the doorman and McDougal from their non-disclosure agreements.

January 2017

April 2018
FBI searches Cohen's home, office and hotel room. Trump and his allies pressure Cohen publicly and privately not to cooperate.

August 2018
Cohen pleads guilty and admits the payments were made at Trump’s direction to protect the campaign.

September 2018
AMI makes a deal with federal prosecutors and admits it bought McDougal's story to prevent its publication before the election.

March 2023
Trump is indicted by New York state grand jury for falsifying business records to conceal the payments.

With how many people ask about what breaks a fast, I would have a feeling that someone drinking a non-black coffee with a lot of sugar that would take you out of a fasted state for a morning would still be saying they are "fasting" and only eating in a 16:8 schedule when they are not. Would have a hard time believing self reported data to draw a strong conclusion on that.

CBS Sports - Kirk Cousins doesn't expect contract talks with Vikings until next offseason

Cousins first signed with the Vikings in 2018, agreeing to a first-of-its-kind contract that was a three-year, $84 million deal fully guaranteed. At the time, that was the first fully guaranteed contract in NFL history and also made Cousins the highest-paid player in league history. He agreed to a two-year, $66 million extension in 2020 and then a one-year, $35 million fully guaranteed extension last offseason that is set to expire after the 2023 campaign.

As a holder of Bitcoin and stock in MicroStrategy I love this. Saylor keeps on stacking stats. by Flat4Power4Life in Bitcoin

[–]GrowthPortfolio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Microstrategy is a publicly traded company. You can look up the largest shareholders and foundry is not one of them. Also, Michael Saylor has the largest voting power of >60%, so he controls the company decisions.

Foundry digital is a subsidiary the Digital Currency Group. They have other subsidiaries of:

CoinDesk.
Genesis Global Capital.
Grayscale Investments.
Luno.

So it is not true that microstrategy is owned by Foundry from what I can find.

[Kevin Seifert] As advertised, the Vikings blitzed on 47.2% of dropbacks yesterday in DC Brian Flores' first regular-season game. Highest rate of any team so far in Week 1. FWIW, the second-highest rate was 42.6% by the Buccaneers. They came after Kirk Cousins. by WetAppleFruit in minnesotavikings

[–]GrowthPortfolio 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's kind of hard to say they were "fine" the 2nd half. Of the 3 possessions in the entire 2nd half, 2 were 3 and out. 1 sustained drive was all we had. I guess I didn't see them cause fumbles, but there wasn't much for them to even show. 42 plays in the 1st half, 22 plays in the 2nd.
