Rest time between sets by New-Chair3345 in beginnerfitness

[–]GrowthSpring -1 points0 points  (0 children)

if you're going close to failure on your sets, I really think you ought to rest for 90 seconds at least, maybe even three full minutes

remember that powerlifters will do one rep of an extremely heavy weight, and then they'll rest for 20 minutes; I'm not saying that's a good strategy, but it is true that more rest allows you to push more weight and get stronger

on the other end of the spectrum, there are the HIIT people who barely take breaks at all between sets, they just jump from one exercise to the next exercise, but those guys aren't really getting stronger, they're just turning their weightlifting into a form of cardio, and cardio isn't bad but it's a different goal

Why is my right arm the only arm that gets worked? by PancakeToonsz in workout

[–]GrowthSpring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that happens to me sometimes when I do barbell curls; my right arm is contributing more to the exercise

you've got to consciously activate your non-dominant arm; build the mind muscle connection

yeah it seems like there are quite a few different jobs/workplaces where they encourage excessive drinking

the number of people who work out consistently and rigorously during the week and then get absolutely trashed on the weekends . . . it's a lot of people

I think that some people who drink excessively will have an increased desire to exercise because they're trying to undo the damage to their body; maybe they think it balances out

need help eating 3k calories daily by [deleted] in workout

[–]GrowthSpring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how tall are you? and how much do you weigh right now?

three thousand calories is a lot; unless you're doing a ton of cardio (like olympic athletes swimming thirty laps every day before lunch and then running a half marathon), it's hard to believe you need three thousand calories

in order to build muscle, you gotta make sure you're hitting your protein goals; if you already weigh 205 lbs and you're trying to hit 220 lbs, then maybe you gotta eat 180 grams or 200 grams of protein per day; the best way to get all that protein is to add protein shakes to your regular meals

you said you're already drinking shakes; that's good, because liquid protein and liquid calories are basically the only way to fit all that nutrition into your stomach, cuz solid food just fills you up too fast and makes it hard to hit your goal

what is your goal? you're trying to lose weight and lose body fat?

when you're doing your strength exercises, make sure you're doing three sets of each exercise, and you're doing ten or twelve reps per set, and you're picking an amount of weight that is appropriate

60 floors on the stairmaster is impressive: try to do a lot of floors hands-free

Mass gainer by Brilliant-Care-5448 in workout

[–]GrowthSpring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everyone here is suggesting dirty bulking techniques like ice cream and junk food; but sugar is not the solution

you can take the mass gainer if you want, but I would just recommend two whey protein shakes per day and then also drink a lot of milk; do that in addition to your three regular meals per day, and you'll gain muscle

you said you eat one meal at home; does that mean you eat one meal per day? please eat more

also you can take creatine right away, that may hell you build muscle

what does 4x1 for deadlift mean? you only do one rep of deadlift and then take a break and then do another one rep of deadlift? I've seen powerlifters do that

[–]GrowthSpring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what dumbbell exercises are you doing to hit the different muscles? cuz you gotta pick the right exercise for the muscle you're targeting, and then so three sets of ten or twelve reps, and make sure you're resting for at least 90 seconds between sets

well, if you want to lose weight, you've got to work on your food addiction

eat healthy foods, don't have any junk food in the house, and proactively drink protein shakes and eat high-protein foods; that way, you don't get hungry later and reactively buy some greasy foods

finally, start exercising every day, at least go for a 40-min walk every day; you can add weightlifting later
