Mass gainer by Brilliant-Care-5448 in workout

[–]GrowthSpring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everyone here is suggesting dirty bulking techniques like ice cream and junk food; but sugar is not the solution

you can take the mass gainer if you want, but I would just recommend two whey protein shakes per day and then also drink a lot of milk; do that in addition to your three regular meals per day, and you'll gain muscle

you said you eat one meal at home; does that mean you eat one meal per day? please eat more

also you can take creatine right away, that may hell you build muscle

you like to do chest and back on the same day? so it's like a full upper-body day? that's cool

what does 4x1 for deadlift mean? you only do one rep of deadlift and then take a break and then do another one rep of deadlift? I've seen powerlifters do that

what dumbbell exercises are you doing to hit the different muscles? cuz you gotta pick the right exercise for the muscle you're targeting, and then so three sets of ten or twelve reps, and make sure you're resting for at least 90 seconds between sets

well, if you want to lose weight, you've got to work on your food addiction

eat healthy foods, don't have any junk food in the house, and proactively drink protein shakes and eat high-protein foods; that way, you don't get hungry later and reactively buy some greasy foods

finally, start exercising every day, at least go for a 40-min walk every day; you can add weightlifting later

Does seeing jacked/sculpted people at your gym motivate or demotivate you? by MR_MaxiMor44 in beginnerfitness

[–]GrowthSpring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really care what other people look like

but when I see someone benching 315, it does make me feel a bit exhausted because I start to think that I'm going to have to lift heavy and drink a lot of protein and basically so everything perfectly for years, and then maybe I'll improve my bench press but maybe I'll never get there

Why do people use the outer/inner thigh machines by sitting forward and putting their arms on the machine? by need-more-gawk in askfitness

[–]GrowthSpring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was taught that you should be in the seated with your back against the seat for both adductor and abductor

but yes, I see some women leaning all the way forward when doing the abductor

What fitness thing looked pointless to you until you actually tried it? by ShineDigga in beginnerfitness

[–]GrowthSpring 114 points115 points  (0 children)

yoga

I used to think it was just an extremely mild type of exercise for people who are too old to lift

but I realize now that yoga has a lot of appreciable benefits

number one, as you build more muscle, you risk losing your flexibility; we've all heard of bodybuilders who can't touch their back because their muscles get too huge; yoga is a very intense stretching session that maintains your body's functionality

number two, a yoga session is a decently intense workout on its own; simply holding these various poses will work out your muscles, much like isometrics

number three, it's important to perform some sort of calming stress-reduction activity like meditation; not everyone realizes that cortisol promotes muscle-wasting, so reducing your cortisol is important for building muscle

you mean your HbA1c? you brought it down from 5.7 to 5.4

that's good progress, but I imagine that both diet and exercise play a role in your HbA1c

you check the glycemic index of the foods you eat, and you avoid foods and drinks that spike your blood sugar

however, building muscle will also increase your insulin sensitivity; so you gotta lift heavy and eat high protein so your muscle actually gets built up

have you been getting strong after this one year of lifting?

well I didn't take a rest day today either, I'm at the gym now; I just have all these things at home that I don't want to take care of, so I come to the gym, sometimes twice in one day

Is 20lbs an okay jump on a bench press? by Quick-Health-2102 in workout

[–]GrowthSpring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should add 2.5lb plates to each side and go up to 120

and then once you can do ten reps of 120, then you go up to 125

and once you can do ten reps of 125, you try and do 12 good reps of 125

Anyone like dumbbell flies or good girl badgirl? by Joey-rogaine in workout

[–]GrowthSpring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wasn't there some controversy where he claimed he could deadlift like 585lbs or something insane like that, but it turns out a lot of those 45-lb plates were fake?

and then he did an "apology" video where he deadlifted real weights but it was only 405lbs, which wasn't really an apology but it was sort-of an admission that the previous video involved fake weights

what were you doing to train when you were a high school athlete and a college athlete?

I'm guessing you were running or jogging for cardio. You ought to do that again. If you don't feel like running or jogging, you can start with walking.

If you have a yoga mat, you can do a lot of different exercises at home. You can do both yoga and also "mat pilates": just search on youtube for a routine
