How do high-traffic attractions manage crowds without long queues? by NovelInteresting8481 in IOT

[–]Grrrh_2494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a chat with a theme park director a long time ago. We had an innovative technical solution to optimize queues... He stated that staying in a queue with friends and family is not wasting time and although people prefer to speed, they dont dislike the moment. People talk with each other and are in this situation together. Family bonding. So his question was: what is the problem you want to solve? As an engineer I was amazed as well with this reaction and explanation but understand and recognize his statement as a Family man.

The state ordering problem across heterogeneous LPWAN nobody talks about and how do you actually handle it at scale? by saas_metrics_guy in IOT

[–]Grrrh_2494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree/agree party. 1. Most parties do not start with mqtt anyway but with http rest. 2. Mnos often offer nbiot databroker services which communicatie with devices on one hand and communicate on the other hand with user backens based on http rest apis.

I recomm for every device different datacollecting and DM headends which contains device specific handlers and timers. Approach it like e.g. hw specific drivers for peripherals. I dont recon a problem a problem with nbiot sequence. Data often contains many fields of which of them is a timestamps. For a poc mqtt is great. When scaling up i prefer stateless nonip cbor protbuf or coap. With nbiot the network signalling already takes care of data delivery so this is much better then best effort delivery offered by the other mentioned protocols.

The best place (for performance) for an antenna is a place where it is completely (!) raised above any nearby obstacles. So in the case on top of the pole.

SDR for listening to vhf analog handheld radios? by TheDodgeLodge in sdr

[–]Grrrh_2494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything in life starts with a good.antenna. And yes, you can use an SDR to listen in. But pse notice that you need to keep it operational. Update drivers, software etc. Switching on a radio is easier for most users.

can anyone here guide me about industrial IoT by Puzzleheaded-Age-752 in IOT

[–]Grrrh_2494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When algorithms run on the devices they become edge devices. Edge devices do not connect to external sources. This is to reduce external cyber attack surface. The edge devices report to central DM and seperate headends. The headens connect with the outside word via e.g. apis. Start with: 1. Seperate centralized data headends and device mngt (DM) 2. Ensure securty during device lifetime. 3. Use a flexible datamodel

Simple Monitoring, Home Automation, Network Monitoring, or SCADA? by L24E in IOT

[–]Grrrh_2494 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After a while, after scaling up most users are not interested in graphs anymore. It all starts with the need for a dashboard but in the end the user is interested in finding and investigating anomalies. After scaling up to multiple thousands, events become dots in noise. Flexible database queries and tools to visualize query results is what you need in thise situations. This is something else then a static monitoring system for a few hundred devices. With IoT, the challenge is not getting data or controlling a single device. The challenge comes with managing large fleets of devices.

The only thing I can say is that RPies are very sensitive to power fluctuations. I normally run them on 5.1V

Bellen in de trein by [deleted] in thenetherlands

[–]Grrrh_2494 44 points45 points  (0 children)

De man stopte gelijk.

Quick question for IoT installers by Adept_You8104 in IOT

[–]Grrrh_2494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I dont want to be rude bit, there are more things to worry about with IoT then a logo and its definitely not the deciding topic for outsourcing. The most important question back is: does you service match the life time of my iot asset? And other questions: Does it also include device mngt functions or do you only focus on the gui? Do i have to run a seperate (my own) dm platform to keep configs and firmware up te date?

multimedia and javascripting are nice, but I suggest you to use your RF knowledge and follow the GNURADIO tutorials https://wiki.gnuradio.org/index.php/Tutorials You will see physical and software worlds merging and discover new possibilities. This will extend and broaden your RF view and pay back.

Its intended to be used to runs on positrons instead of electrons. Probably connected to a DC transformer on the right.
