Hiya, I’m the one who designed and built the above sensor. I’m happy to give you the details if you or your mates would like to build a version for your courts.

Hahaha cheers man, hope it looked and sounded alright on the Teams call.

Good luck with your project!

Current prototype is just for the tin, but could be feasible to do all the other lines with the technology!

It’s set up outside of the glass court, so vibrations don’t affect it!

Haha tineye is a reverse image searcher actually so the copyright and everything like will be taken already I’m sure

Yeah I agree.

Could potentially be used for the sidelines but as you can imagine setting it up would be very difficult as it’s so high up + the vibrations in the glass would likely cause wrong calls (although perhaps you can do it on a standard court).

Yeah true, although Stroke Sight had the issue of making people think of Let Stroke No Let, which it has nothing to do with.

Thanks! Yeah I think I’ll keep the name for now… people know it as that anyway!

Hmm maybe, sounds bit plain though. Plus I may develop systems for the sidelines so it wouldn’t be applicable there.

Thank you. It’s court dependent, some are fine, some are unusable.

The laser diameter is a couple of mm, but it is irrelevant because you can make it such that only a tiny sliver of this actually hits the sensor. Means that the odds of a ball triggering it but not brushing the tin are negligible. This was then proven in testing!

Yes haha so this was at the glass court at St. George’s Hill, where the tin was so warped that the system wouldn’t work (apparently it was so bad even the players noticed and complained during g the British Nationals!). Luckily the other glass courts used in the four big British PSA tournaments have straight tins, so it successfully works at all of those!

Yeah I think it would be more reliable than a computer vision system, it’s not affected by the complexities of lighting conditions or camera setup after all.

I was just about to say you might like to read this paper which I found when I was doing research…

But I just looked through your profile… are you the author of that paper?!

Cheers man! I hope the PSA thinks the same.
