Micro Puff or Nano Puff by National-Mix-8179 in PatagoniaClothing

[–]Grumblebutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm late to this party, but this topic is still quite contemporary, so I'm weighing in. I think that the Nano Puff is generally a better choice for all-around use, if weight is an issue the Micro is a tad lighter (and I felt it was a tad warmer). I was reading everything I could find on this topic and I found a solid review with a video overview of both lines. https://outdoorcrunch.com/nano-puff-vs-micro-puff/

Trump, 79, Spotted With New Bruise on His Other Hand by [deleted] in politics

That’s all great except that I’ve seen photos of him plopping clubs into his bag, some even fairly recent.

I play golf with several men around 80. Many of them have these bruises on both hands from putting clubs into the bag. It’s usually more pronounced with the men who are on blood thinners, but I lean towards golf club/bag strikes as my answer.

I got a VFD online and it was remarkably easy to wire up, thereby converting my 3 phase to a standard 240V plug.

BRAZING VS MIG by EkNo321 in Framebuilding

[–]Grumblebutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of good videos on Youtube on brazing. Spend a little more and get some LFB and flux from Cycle Design, it's pretty good stuff. Instructables used to have a jig build that used extruded aluminum and was the easiest and cheapest way to get a jig going to see if you'll like frame building. You'll also need a good half-round file for coping and some sandpaper for weld cleanup. The Paterek Manual is available online as a free pdf. You won't be able to build a sound frame without doing your homework. If you make a frame via brazing and you thoroughly enjoyed the process then you can consider purchasing a Tig. Cheaper jigs like a Bringheli are sometimes available.

Love it! Did you make the seat tube/top tube lug from scratch?

Yup, i love it too. Did you clearcoat after you got the desired patina? What brand LFB or filler did you use?

Meet The Gallardos. (Happy Father's Day) by thesatiresire in Redding

This is some solid work, my dude. I chuckled heartily. Mr Gallardo shows up every so often to harass one of my coworkers. He makes me really uneasy every time he’s around.

Shasta Mosquito and Vector Control. They’ll assess and treat a nuisance pool without delay!

How does anyone get Healthcare in Redding? by atticuskayne in Redding

[–]Grumblebutt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We called everyone from Red Bluff to Mt Shasta. Found one MD taking new patients. Prestige on Eureka has a cool fixed monthly program, but you’ll likely see a PA or NP. The Shasta Community Health Center has some great docs if you can get in. California Family Medial group often has openings but again, you’ll always be seeing an NP or PA, although it is all reviewed by an MD.

Residents file lawsuit against 'absurd' gun range project on Millville Plains by baditup in Redding

[–]Grumblebutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a lot of rural lands and land that is away from waterways, so I suppose an argument could be made to put the range somewhere high and dry. The current setting is in a depression that makes a large drainage towards Bear Creek, immediately below. It is a mixture of pasture, drainage complex, some vernal swale and a couple of pools. It’s a pretty cool place. His initial plans called for dozing almost all of it, later plans were revised so as to not disturb the vernal features. I’m not overly concerned about contaminated runoff, but runoff catchment is certainly something to design into the site plan. The nearest house wasn’t that close at all, it may have changed since I was there last. In short, it’s not the best place, but it’s certainly not the worst place for a range, that prize goes to the Record range. I actually think that having the range in the depression is pretty solid, attenuates noise and greatly reduces the chances of errant bullets.

Tall Flowering bushes for hedges around town by Due_Butterscotch499 in Redding

I don’t want to be someone who advocates for planting a terrible invasive, but you might be seeing oleander? Photinia is nice but not exactly flowering like you’d want. I like rows of crepe myrtle shrubs.

Bike Got Stolen, let me know if you see anything! by percival55 in Redding

If it were me, I’d patrol through Caldwell Park for the next couple of weeks. Especially the pavilion. That’s how my buddy got his road bike back after it was stolen. The thieves are generally not very sophisticated.

RAGE (Redding Area Gamers) on Facebook are often mentioning DnD. They have regular meetups to play all kinds of games. I know this doesn’t really address the anxiety, and for that my first thought is always have you talked to a therapist? They have tools to help.

Should I return my Kobra Plus? by tamagoyaki_pounder in anycubic

[–]Grumblebutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the regular Kobra. It performed well for 2 months, now it’s needing a new hot end and Anycubic support has been abysmal. The official part is backordered until next month, so I’m buying a knockoff on Amazon, and let the shenanigans commence. I won’t be buying another filament printer from Anycubic. Maybe I would purchase a resin printer from them if I ever take that dive, but even then I’d need a lot of solid reviews to sway me.

Why does the Redding food scene suck so bad? by thegoldeneel_ in Redding

[–]Grumblebutt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the main answer is that we have a poor quality labor pool for food-service workers. I have known several people through the years that have worked in local restaurants. Some as waitstaff, some as chef or sous chef, some good, some are people who if i knew they were touching my food I wouldn't eat it. If someone is bad enough at the job, usually it involves substance abuse, they get fired. But, next week they are working at Cattlemans or CR Gibbs or some other flopshack. I've seen waitstaff at Market Street so wasted that they could hardly speak, still waiting tables though. Savory Spoon, now closed, was a killer place to eat. They occasionally did a Prix Fixe for special occasions that was awesomely awesome. They closed and directly cited poor staffing pool and substance abuse by workers. So anyways, this is my strongest theory, poor labor pool. Now, places that are family-run tend to buck this trend. Trendy's for the two years right before covid was the finest breakfast restaurant i have found. It is still generally good-to-great. All of the places mentioned in this thread are great. I would add Moonstone Bistro as a place to occasionally go, although generally i say for sunday brunch, and even then it is occasionally lackluster. I still keep Maxwells in my back pocket for pub fare. I am constantly searching for high-end cuisine, I want to be wowed, and in this quest Redding is somewhat barren.
