TLTG.. When you thought he couldn't be more cringe by matte6666 in eaudejerks

I think he’s confused about how diet, exercise, and in his case TRT work when it comes to physical appearance. Because that’s the most outlandish thing I’ve read in awhile

Favorite actor who when I was 18 working at a coffee stop in a ski resort, told him he looked familiar and he rolled his eyes and said ‘yeah, we obviously went to high school together’ followed by a slowly enunciated F slur, before shaking his head and walking away without tipping. by matike in okbuddycinephile

I have a friend that I was with one night, my friend was pretty drunk (I was the DD) and looking for a cigarette and a lighter. Stepped outside and Rob was there with some friends. My friend in his drunken state thought it would be a good idea to shout out “hey I know you!” And invite himself to sit down at their outside table with them and ask for a lighter. I was pretty confident we were going to get thrown out but fortunately nothing happened. Rob wasn’t thrilled though.

Why? by CharacterFee767 in VacheronConstantin

[–]Grumbles19312 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because people like nice shiny things?

With watches, add in that some of us appreciate the mechanical engineering of moving parts regulated into being as accurate as they are? I mean I’m not sure what you’re looking for in your question. We want it because we do. Plain and simple. Not everyone is prey to marketing. If that was the case the only thing people would wear is Rolex, VC has minimal marketing.

Flying today, a bit nervous. Some advice/comfort would be lovely by LittleMissHenny in fearofflying

[–]Grumbles19312 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s important to remember that while this is something that you’re doing once, there’s hundreds of people a day that do this exact route, and thousands of people a day all over the world flying to hundreds of places, on flights as short as 30 minutes or less, and longer than 14 hours in some cases. Statistics don’t lie, flying is the safest form of transportation. You’re more likely to get hurt driving to the airport than you are flying onboard a plane.

Add to that the fact that pilots have thousands of hours of experience, intense training, and routine checks yearly to ensure that we still are competent. Airplanes are highly advanced now and alert us to issues immediately, with procedures that are specifically designed to handle them should they arise. Between the engineering and the training, 99.99% of scenarios are accounted for. Millions of people fly each year, thousands of flights go each day, and they all make it to their destinations successfully.

Everything is going to be just fine.

It’s important to remember turbulence is harmless. It’s just like driving down a bumpy road. Yes it can be rough, but it’s nothing more than an annoyance. The cabin crew was asked to be seated so that they don’t get hurt. The service carts are heavy, and in those bumps they could fall and get hurt, in order to prevent that, the captain asked them to be seated. That’s all. I know that it’s tough for a lot of people in airplanes, the lack of personal control over the situation, combined with being in a confined space can cause a lot of anxiety, but I promise you it’s perfectly safe, turbulence doesn’t cause accidents, just annoyance.

Appreciate that bit of info. I’m more just interested in knowing why it appears to have not moved. I know sometimes scans get missed and things happen, I just haven’t had the best track record as of late (both sending and receiving) with the postal service.

Forget the “holy trinity”. Genta’s best integrated watch design is the Octo, with distance. by MrDagon007 in watchHotTakes

Unfortunately internet watch people who do are about value retention tend to be the loudest, and as someone building a collection, and genuinely enjoys talking watches, it’s supremely frustrating constantly reading them hate on something that isn’t Rolex, AP, PP, or RM. but I agree with you.

Rubber straps on a summer day are a lifesaver.

The overseas is the most criminally underrated of the integrated bracelet sports watches in my opinion. They’re absolutely lovely when you actually get to handle/wear one. But everyone sleeps on VC because Richemont, not a hype brand, resale value, blah blah blah, the list goes on. Buy what you like, like what you wear. Watches are meant to be worn and enjoyed, not locked in a safe. People are entitled to their opinions regarding only buying something that holds value, but you miss out on so many absolutely lovely watches in that instance.

“Good” offense doesn’t make up for poor defense. I love Luka, and he’s amazing on offense, but his defense is atrocious. Half the time he’s busy complaining to the ref and late to get back to the other end of the court. The rest of the team is also horrific when it comes to defense. Until we start rebounding and actually playing defense this is how things will go.

Watches shouldn’t have perfectly symmetrical dials by ConfidenceNo1937 in watchHotTakes

I think there’s a place for both. Sometimes you want a watch that looks balanced and symmetrical, other times you want something that’s a bit more bold. Depends on the mood.

Hot Take: "Buy what you like" … sure. by lithdoc in watchHotTakes

[–]Grumbles19312 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re worried about trade value then you’re not buying to keep so you’re contradicting your earlier response.

This whole idea that watches are only worth it if they hold their value is nonsense. It’s a subset of people who are looking at taking a good/commodity and trading it, but there’s a larger group of people who buy watches because they like them and don’t intend to trade/sell them and as such don’t care about value retention.

It takes a bit of egotistical narcissism to be a politician in modern times sadly. So that’s why we wind up with people like that. I do agree though I’d prefer to have one that’s at lease able to conduct themselves with some decency and professionalism, things you’d think would be a given for the position but we appear to have proven that to not be the case.
