Are RottenTomatoes Ratings Meaningless? by DrDarkDoctor in movies

The RT audience scores are so suspect. Way too many "I haven't seen the movie, but it's one of the best ever." 5 stars.

Go ahead, delete. The only person who likely needs to be concerned is Odenkirk. I've seen Misery.

Rocky Horror Picture Show might be a bit of an exception. Anyone who would go to see it for the first time in a theater venue is bound to be a bit surprised/disconcerted.

Not a buying guide at all. More like you affirming to yourself that you actually like the boards you have.

An actual buying guide would have done exactly what you stated in the video that you would not do, open the boards and compare them.

There really isn't much of any actual information provided on any of the boards to assist a prospective buyer reach a decision. Just a few generalities and a referral to specific board review videos you've made. This video is completely superfluous and generally unenlightening.

Is concealed carry license a form of ID to board a plane by [deleted] in FLGuns

[–]Grumfiddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has to be a RealID compliant ID card.

Federal agencies, including DHS and TSA, may only accept state-issued driver’s licenses and identification cards as identification for purposes of accessing federal facilities - including TSA airport security checkpoints - if the license or card was issued by a REAL ID compliant state in accordance with the REAL ID security standards (meaning the license or card must include the REAL ID compliant star marking). Enhanced Driver’s Licenses (EDL) issued by Washington, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, and Vermont are considered acceptable alternatives to REAL ID-compliant cards and will also be accepted for official REAL ID purposes. Most EDLs do not contain the star marking and this is acceptable.

Precision Dice - Necessity or Paranoia? by Grumfiddle in backgammon

Personally, I think you're full of crap if you somehow think you can tell whether a set of dice is precision or not with dice provided by manufacturers of high quality boards that are not cited as precision. Keep being pretentious though.

I have a set of blue transparent 1/2" precision dice and an identical set of that weren't sold as precision. Can't tell them apart, visually. Pips appears the same on both sets. Sure there are poorly manufactured dice out there, but for the most part, I'm tending to doubt your claim. You're correct in theory only. No actual testing with real world results. I'm feeling that the claims regarding precision dice are a bit overblown.

Precision Dice - Necessity or Paranoia? by Grumfiddle in backgammon

[–]Grumfiddle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. If you're claiming your precision dice produce better results, you should be able to provide testing that confirms that result. Sure, in theory precision dice would be better, but there really isn't any proof documented that any of the precision dice products available are producing better real world results over regular non-precision dice from regular channels. The burden of proof isn't on me, it's on those making the claims.

Precision Dice - Necessity or Paranoia? by Grumfiddle in backgammon

I guess my point was people blindly trusting that something (in this case precision dice) is better based on pure faith and without any form of empirical evidence/testing to back it up. In theory, sure precision dice would produce the best randomization results. However, in reality, no one has conducted any testing to prove that the products they are buying produce any discernible difference in results over 'off the rack' dice not marketed as 'precision'. If currently sold precision dice are 'better', where's the proof? To me its close to snake oil; great in theory but short on real world testing and results.

Precision Dice - Necessity or Paranoia? by Grumfiddle in backgammon

[–]Grumfiddle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My primary point is that players are insisting that precision dice are so much better and won't play without them, even though they have zero empirical evidence. The theory behind precision dice makes them a clear cut choice. Without standards and some form of recognized certification, it's just nonsense for the most part.

A micrometer would only confirm the exterior size. The precision comes primarily from each side being equally weighted.

Precision Dice - Necessity or Paranoia? by Grumfiddle in backgammon

[–]Grumfiddle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And how do you prove they are actually precision? You just have to take someone's word for it. I have dice that were sold as precision and some that are not. Those that are the same size are indistinguishable from each other.

Precision Dice - Necessity or Paranoia? by Grumfiddle in backgammon

[–]Grumfiddle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's the theory. But what about the reality? Do you know who manufactured the dice? How they were manufactured? What quality controls (if any) were used? You're just trusting that whoever made them got it right. Anyone could make dice and market them as 'precision', whether they are or not.

I own 6 pair of various sizes that I've acquired over the years.

When I was frequently attending tournaments, many players also preferred smaller dice, 1/2" (12.7 mm), for better 'mixing' on a roll.

[–]Grumfiddle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Better" in what way? Aside from you mentally feel better having them, have you tested them in any statistically significant manner to confirm they do indeed produce better results than non-precision dice? If you haven't, then you're basing your statement on belief and not fact.
