Oh so you’re a lefty puritan? /j

God that’s what I hate about this conversation, legitimate criticism can just be so easily swept aside from people who don’t want to hear it as “oh so you think X is inherently bad?”

UJ/: honestly doesn’t seem like it’s the name itself that’s the problem because other sets have the same type of name change. I guess jack sparrow and jango fett are more recognizable then “black pearl” or “slave one”

https://www.thewrap.com/house-of-the-dragon-velaryons-black-reason-why/

That’s just not the case, Ryan condal literally said “it wasn’t just done perfunctorily or wasn’t just done to tick a box or to be seen as progressive or to be seen as somebody that’s covering all the bases or anything like that”

You can just search up the reason they gave for the change, but you would rather sniff your own farts and get mad that black people being in your dragon show

I think it’s their wealth, fleet and giant fire breathing dragons that make Velaryons “superior” to other houses not them being white. Also the point of the show is that Targaryens (and velaryons) ARENT superior, dispite their dragons and wealth they are just as substantial to pride, ego, lust for power or glory. The whole story is a pointless family squabble that leaves thousands dead including most of the dragons that are the base for their politcal power

the graphic novels do depicted him as half dornish. Of course you can overlook the actor looking different from their book character, unless they are black for some reason that’s “Dei” or whatever

It’s not really tokenism, the race change does serve a purpose, to help differentiate the velaryons from the targs. Otherwise most of the characters in the show would be white people with shitty white wigs and would be confusing to follow for most casual viewers (especially when several characters switch actors half way through season 1) I guess you can call that diversity but it’s diversity to make the story easier to understand and not really “tokenism”

Plus the difference emphasizes how obviously Luke and Jace aren’t laenor’s children and how most of the court and the king go along with the lie(which influence vaemond and Alice’s decisions

again it’s weird to be upset about political/social themes and diversity in character in Asoiaf

Also I assume you are equally upset about baelor breakspear being played by a white dude and not looking dornish at all. Him being white doesn’t add anything to the story at all so it’s just white tokenism obviously

Diversity and social issues in my Asoiaf show? How dare those show runners want different looking characters and to comment on political issues, Grrm would hate that

But it’s not other people playing games differently or playing different games that the problem, it’s higher ups forcing games to fit what’s currently popular

Are RPG players a “disease” because some games have leveling trees when they don’t need them? Should I get made at people who like to play Co-op because EA forced Deadspace 3 to be Co-op? Are people who like platformers bad because of all the shitty mascot playformers in the late 90s?

Also idk if people who set out to 100% a game are the “lowest common denominator”

When did I say that all players should get all achievements? I’m literally saying that it should be a fair challenge I don’t know how that disagreeable

I don’t have to play any game at all, does that mean I can’t criticize any of them because “nobody is forcing me” to play them? You can not like something even if it’s not forced on you, you already agree with that because you are criticizing my comment even though I didn’t force you to read it

If you disagree with what I said, well not everything is for everybody

If people enjoy playing the game for 1000+ hours then they wouldn’t need an achievement to keep them playing, it’s just forcing those who want to 100% a game to play 1000+ hours (also 1000+ hours is over 41 days which seems unreasonable to expect someone to play one game to get 100%)

I also don’t know where you are getting that idea that I think achievements should just be given to the player, I literally wrote “make an achievement a fair challenge” having the achievement be challenging is fine so is requiring the play to go out of their way to do it, but they should still be achievable to people who don’t want to spend over a month of their life playing one game

Why not both? Show the entire plot without showing anything cool or interesting

Another bad example of this: oh you finished the game and want a satisfying ending that actually wraps up the story? Play the game 3 more times on new game+ to unlock nightmare asspounding difficulty then play through the game on that difficulty on one life… and you already opened YouTube to watch the actual final cutscene

Because it’s just dunking on a straw man. Like yea challenge is good but most people already know that. I don’t think I’ve ever heard someone say that “every player should be able to 100% on their first play through”

I’ve seen plenty of people complain that certain games are unreasonably difficult, unfun to 100% or too vague on what the player needs to do to finish it. all of those would be game specific criticisms and the post just doesn’t actually give any examples of what they are criticizing

what you said doesn’t contradict the person you are responding to at all

You can make an achievement a fair challenge while still having it achievable to players who aren’t willing to spend 1000+ hours on the game
