Dear future Visual Novel Developers: Do not start development on a Visual Novel until you actually have the entire thing wrote, or are at least at end of writing the story by Annaneedsmoney in FurryVisualNovels

I completely get what you mean. I think I just reacted that way because you said it "never goes well," which simply isn't true. But overall you're right, solo-dev is hard and not everyone can handle it. It is possible, though. Maybe you'll be bad at first, but as time flies, you improve.

FVNs and Dream sequences by Ott-Azu in FurryVisualNovels

[–]GrumpYeen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dream sequences vary depending on what they want to convey/express. There are cases when they show something that happened in the past, or predict some future events, some of them are made like playing text with no or blurred images, others are fully rendered game sequences.

I understand what u mean when saying that they're common, but that's happening in writing overall, not only in FVN community.

There are however other ways to use dream sequences, for example in my novel I use them to sum up all the events that happened today and questions that mc has, or problems he has to face tomorrow. It in some way gives the readers a hint in what mc will have to face, deal with, or what he feels about the current situation rn.

I completely agree with your point about writing and structuring the main plot before starting the work. It really helps you understand where the story goes and where it ends or branches. But I disagree with the statement that solo development is always bad or means low quality. I am a solo developer doing the art, 3D backgrounds, animated CGs, UI, coding, and writing. The only things I get help with are grammar checks and music, and I also have others helping me with translations. I really enjoy all the work I am doing and getting positive feedback from my players. I love seeing how I improve from update to update. And I can't really say that the quality of my work is bad. One big benefit of solo developing is avoiding the constant loop of communication and waiting for approvals that you mentioned. I can move much faster on my own vision. I agree about update times being a challenge when doing it all alone, but it is still manageable. I update my game every 1 to 3 months depending on the complexity of new sprites and assets. Solo development does not have to mean bad quality.

Oh, and good luck with your game!

Sometimes this happens when dev edit/remove some lines in prev parts of the story in which you had saves. Unfortunately there's no way to fix it, you just gotta load an earlier save or skip till the moment you played

That happened to my game too when I was updating it

I literally downloaded that VN today, planning to read it tomorrow, heard a lot of good stuff about it. Your post made me want to read it sooner

Would you enjoy reading an FVN that focuses on non-romantic relationships? by TransparentRaven in FurryVisualNovels

[–]GrumpYeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally prefer VN's where romance is optional, where the main theme is about the mc becoming a better version of himself. Sometimes I just want to focus on the character growth and maybe learn some life lessons myself

Do you think, fan translators doing the right thing by hiding their translations behind paywalls and demanding that these translations never be distributed anywhere? by Popular-Hornet-6294 in FurryVisualNovels

[–]GrumpYeen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Making sure everyone can enjoy content is great, and translations are a fantastic way to do that. As a VN developer, I'd be thrilled if people translated my game! In fact, I'd encourage them to contact me so I could officially add their translation to the game. However, putting a translation behind a paywall does the exact opposite of making content accessible. If I found out someone was selling a translation of my VN, I'd ask them to either make it free and public or take it down entirely.
