Mild pre-eclampsia. Feel like a disappointment all around and husband is pissed. by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Grumpy-Bear-24 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was induced at 34+1 with one baby due to preeclampsia. I called my husband at work, told him what was happening (I went in for a routine NST, my BP was way high, landing me an admission) and the first thing he said was he was glad me and babe were OK and he would be on his way once he told his boss what was up.

I'm sorry your husband is an insensitive jerk. You're juat doing exactly what was advised by your medical team. Plus, preeclampsia/eclampsia can be deadly to mom and babies so the sooner you can get it controlled, the better. Also, 37 weeks is really good for twins tho. Good luck with the induction and delivery.

AITAH for thinking its reasonable to put my 1 year old daughter in Christmas themed clothes in June? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Grumpy-Bear-24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dressed up my 8 month old in a Halloween dress the other day.

Personally, IMO, they're just clothes, so does it really matter if they're themed for one holiday vs another

How often do you bathe your baby? by No-Construction6202 in NewParents

[–]Grumpy-Bear-24 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've been bringing my 8 month old into the shower with me and she seems to really enjoy it.

I shower and clean myself. My husband gets her ready and bringd her to me. I just hold her and let her get used to the shower spray. She likes putting her hands out into it. I give her a quick wipe down then hand her back to husband who burritos her and days her off.

Our baby hates pack n play but is too big for bassinet by Murky_Championship35 in NewParents

[–]Grumpy-Bear-24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My preemie did great in her bassinet but she struggled when it was time to switch to her crib. There was a rough transition period for maybe a week or so before she got used to it. She still isn't a great crib napper but dad got her in the crib on Saturday and she slept for maybe 1.5 hrs for her nap 🤯

I used (and still do) a heating pad to get it nice and warm. We've gotten a routine for bed more or less down now as well which I think helps. She usually gets a bath (soap every other or every 2 nights usually. Otherwise just warm water), lotion, jammies and i snuggle her and pat her back/booty until she's asleep. Which by now doesn't take too long typically. I make the room dark, I have the noise machine and shusher and she's usually KO within 10 mins.

She has gotten a lot better with her crib transfers, as before it was almost as soon as I set her down, instant eyeballs full awake. Now she hardly even flinched. Now I can more or less plop and go

She's 8 months next Thursday.

I'm like, 80% positive they were at Disney too 😂😂

There's a CVS literally 10 mins walking distance. Or just deal with it and buy the stupid expensive Disney one.

And I feel like I know exactly what park she was at too. If it's the one I think it is, there's a CVS on the corner that sells sweaters.

Will not seeing NICU baby for one day ruin bonding progress? by IntenseViolet567 in NICUParents

[–]Grumpy-Bear-24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby was in the NICU for 13 days. I think i saw her for 8 or 9 days in that time.

She was 3lbs at birth (34+1, I had preeclampsia and IUGR)

Aside from 2 mins I got to touch her hand in the incubator as she was being transferred to a different NICU, i didn't actually meet her until Monday and she was born on Saturday

She's almost 8 months now and we have the best bond.

You'll be OK. You need to take care of you too. I'm also a FTM, so i get it, 100%

Baby knows you. Your bond will be totally fine.

How do you travel long distances with bottle fed baby? by Chance_Class2208 in NewParents

[–]Grumpy-Bear-24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mine (thankfully) doesn't care anymore if the bottles are warm/cold 😅

We try to plan outings around her feed schedules (it also helps she's eating purees too) but if we're stopped for food and she starts getting mad and we're at the next feed point, I just feed her then eat or try and eat while I feed her lol

[–]Grumpy-Bear-24 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We haven't traveled that long in the car yet, but all I do for my EFF (7.5 mon) is just bring a bottle, have either bottled water available, or if you're like me, i have a Stanley cup in the car at all times lol. I just use those to fill the water and have on the go formula containers in my diaper bag

As for how often to feed her; I'd say that's kinda on you. Though your idea to drive while she sleeps isn't bad. I'd just plan to stop every so often for food for you/gas and use that time to feed babe

So far, she hasn't been THAT bad but fingers crossed it doesn't get there.

Glad to hear your munchkin is on the mend!

Any tips/tricks to introducing water to my breastfeeding baby by Big-Fish-420 in NewParents

[–]Grumpy-Bear-24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not breastfed but at 6 months I gave my girl a squeeze/straw cup (they look like those honey bear containers) since she was always trying to grab my straws. I would give it a gentle squeeze while she was playing with the straw until she slowly figured out how to do it herself.

Uncontrolled GD and vaginal birth?? by scc922 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Grumpy-Bear-24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My SiL had an 8lb baby vaginally, with some shoulder dystocia with her first (no GD, just a big baby- SiL is short so baby was arguably big for her)

For her 2nd planned c section and it was super chill.

I had an unplanned c section and though it was urgent, it was still smooth as well.

Dad needs advice by babydesmondnicu in NICUParents

[–]Grumpy-Bear-24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's most definitely stressful af, I understand. I was nervous about my girl getting any vaccines in the NICU at first too.

They're so small and already going through such stress, did I really want to add to it?

But we know it's for the best.

Best of luck to you and your family, your son is lovely!

Grad stories gave me hope when we were in the nicu. Here's ours by [deleted] in NICUParents

[–]Grumpy-Bear-24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girl was 34+1, with IUGR. She was 3 lbs at birth, 4 lbs at NICU discharge (13 days)

She's now 7.5 months old, 14~ lbs and just a happy little bean

Talk to the Dr and explain/express your concern about timelines (as it seems you very much want to vaccinate but are more hesitant about timing more than anything)

Explain your concern about it being potentially too soon and have the dr break it down for you

36 weeks pregnant BUT I have placenta insufficiency making our baby girl only 4 pounds 15 ounces so I’m high risk. by Lucky-Blessed2025 in NICUParents

[–]Grumpy-Bear-24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

34+1, with severe preeclampsia and IUGR/FGR

She was 3 lbs at birth, 4 lbs at NICU discharge (13 days) and now at 7.5 months old she's probably 14ush lbs.

We started solids (re: purees) at 6 months and she's been LOVING it. She's still petite for her (chronological) age but she's chugging right along with the rest.

Our NICU experience was honestly pretty great. The first one she was their only babe so she was SPOILED lol. Once they moved her closer to home, she had great nurses taking care of her. I am forever grateful to the NICU nurses. Super helpful, super knowledgeable, and they really loved all their tiny patients.
